Would anyone like to join me in my attempt to unite the board and discuss our favourite royal outfits (before it enviably turns into another bun fight 🤣)

I’ll start with my favourite Catherine outfits first…

I like this navy dress that she wore in 2018. By Carolina Herrera - a far cry from the red monstrosity also by Herrera.

Meghan was in the RF all of two seconds lol but I will post some of my favourite outfits from her anyway because I was a fan of her royal fashion. Less so now though

  • Blue dress - stunning
  • The polo outfit she wasn’t part of the RF but I love it so I added it anyway
  • Black outfits - very elegant
  • I liked the brown one, the midi skirt is very pretty

I agree about the blue dress, it’s lovely. She’s worn a few dresses with capes, if I tried them I’d look ridiculous I think, but she looks good.

I think Camilla looked lovely in her wedding outfit

Yep she got it dead right

My2cents1975 · 25/04/2025 23:18

Catherine's team delivered an outfit formal enough for the Denmark Legoland meetings, yet flexible enough for her to tackle the slide. With all the cameras ready and waiting to catch any slips or falls it was very brave of her to go down that slide.

And C's best accessory is her smile.

Diana did rock an evening frock though…

I went to an exhibition at KP a few years ago and the dresses from when the late Queen and Princess Margaret were young were stunning.

that's a very beautiful picture of Di. I have never seen it before.

sofasoda · 25/04/2025 23:40

I love all of Ms cape dresses

I can add pics again!

I think the plain simply cut dresses suit Meghan. The cape dresses are awful.

I agree. She suits clean lines and simple styles. Cape dresses look ridiculous on her (I despised the green Commonwealth one!)

Zara really suits a hat and somehow makes a coat dress look chic.

I agree. Her dress was the best of the bunch by a mile.

Lady Sarah Chatto’s wedding dress was amazing
In fact, I copied the style for my own wedding dress

I loved the green cape dress, I thought she looked amazing
Her wedding dress was beautiful but ill fitting .
Far too big

NewAgeNewMe · 26/04/2025 07:53

Mine was very similar to Meghan’s. But as I got married 30 odd years ago I like to think she copied me 🥰 although I preferred her evening dress as she looked so fabulous.

sofasoda · 26/04/2025 08:02

The cape dresses are awful.

I think she looks great in them, it's funny how people see things so differently.

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 26/04/2025 08:06

Favourite royal wedding outfits

  1. Catherine’s Westminster dress
  2. Meghan’s evening dress
  3. Beatrice’s church dress
  4. Camilla’s coat
  5. Eugenie’s St George’s Chapel dress

I didn’t like Meghan’s church dress. It was poor fitting around the torso and the material was too stiff and rigid. I think she struggled with making a dress that honoured royal/church protocol whilst maintaining her own style, which is why the evening dress was so much better. She had more freedom to choose what she knew suited her.

I liked the long red cape dress and the black ones she wore for the late Queen's funeral. I thought the green one looked like the cape had slipped sideways and was strangling her. It also didn't fit very well.

MrsGusset · 26/04/2025 08:30

Catherine looking suitably regal at a Buckingham Palace banquet.

I do admire her courage in sitting down to dine in that sheer expanse of white satin which is such an unforgiving material. On me that dress would turn into a magnet for soup & sauce splodges.

I wasn’t a fan of the green one because I thought the cape bit looked odd. Maybe the wind that day didn’t help but in most of the pictures it’s just an odd bit of green flapping around behind her.

I agree about the red one and the black one, plus the pale blue one posted upthread I think is lovely.

sofasoda · 26/04/2025 08:34

I just loved the colour of the green and the styling.

Meghan dislikes what appears to us a well fitting clothes. Or to her may be close fitting. A lot of her clothes are really poor fitting. That Stella McCartney dress was also loose fitting. I doubt the couture made a mistake. I mean unless something really horrendous happens or that she lost so much wait before final fitting. She didn’t look like she did. I think it was her choice. She appears to have an SPD issue. Fine. And would explain choice of clothes. Hey are nearly always just a sack. Having said that bridesmaids dresses were a mess so who knows. What happened there I don’t know. Why those kids couldn’t have been appropriately measured by local seamstresses and have their measurements sent. If I was their mother and my kid was going to be on international television. I would have had them measured myself and called Givenchy myself. I saw the dresses at Windsor. One of the little girls dresses just looked a mess upfront. I was like that hem is a joke. It also was t probably finished around the waist.

The Kensington Palace exhibitions are usually absolutely rubbish. I went to a few including the met gala one. Awful. Best was an Audrey Hepburn one. The V and A do amazing fashion exhibitions.

I'm going to the Dress Codes exhibition today at KP.

The one with Diana's wedding dress was pretty disappointing but Crown to Couture in 2023 was incredible.

I agree the V&A do exhibitions brilliantly and I can't wait to see the Cartier exhibition in June (and I'm still swooning over Dior years later!).

Hated it. Had been to see the Georgian Exhibition in the thens Queen Gallery earlier that day and that was phenomenal. In comparison it didn’t land with me. Did like the Audrey Hepburn ones though. No proper historical layout. No indication of the development of fashion and the context. But the time the met stuff appeared I was just like: useless rich people with nothing better to do. I saw that Dior one and the Grace Kelly one many years ago was amazing…also largely Dior.

I've given up going to KP exhibitions. Expensive and never worth it. Faberge at the V and A was amazing too.

Looking back it was a joke of a wedding. Royal family also in retrospect looked like they didn’t want to be there. Some really let themselves down with their behaviour too. Camilla caught laughing and Beatrice side eying someone…her sister maybe over the American preacher. Who was absolutely gorgeous but context in terms of this being England. Also celebrates unknown in family area. Just bizarre. Harrys own friends not invited.

Honestly I have no idea what was going on with the bridal party dresses, they were all ill fitting and a general mess. I can’t imagine an iconic fashion house like Givenchy are at fault. Either whoever did the fittings really messed up or the design was changed last minute and there wasn’t enough time to implement.

I cannot even imagine what state they were in before Ajay Mirpuri worked on them considering the mess of them at the actual wedding. She should have had them remade. I hope she got her money back if she wasn’t the one at fault!
