Would anyone like to join me in my attempt to unite the board and discuss our favourite royal outfits (before it enviably turns into another bun fight 🤣)

I’ll start with my favourite Catherine outfits first…

I have to disagree.
I think the York sisters are very attractive

CaptainCallisto · 24/05/2025 07:55

I've met Beatrice at a couple of events and she's absolutely beautiful in person. I don't think she photographs terribly well, but she has a really lovely face; particularly her eyes. The first time I met her, I thought it must just have been a really good day, but it was exactly the same the second time (in spite of a truly hideous blouse).

Others have said the same about Beatrice .

I agree

I think that Kate’s dress sense has improved, but she can often look a bit frumpy.
She has the height and the figure to wear great clothes, but it often feels as though the clothes are wearing her
Queen Letizia of Spain is 52 and dresses beautifully ( classic and elegant ) . The clothing always fits the occasion

CurlewKate · 24/05/2025 09:13

It does seem a little sad that Camilla dresses so well and seems to follow her own style but Catherine is so constrained.

Not2identifying · 24/05/2025 09:42

I like most of Camilla's clothes but it's very predictable. Kate wears a greater variety of looks.

Extiainoiapeial · 24/05/2025 12:04

Does Camilla dress well though? I suppose for her age she does, but she always looks like she needs some serious bra management.
I'm old and droopy and I know how important it is to wear the correct bra for the outfit.
I don't particularly like Camilla's style, but I also don't particularly like Camilla, so that might have something to do with it! I wouldn't be seen dead in a lot of what she wears but I suppose it's suitable clothing for a woman of her age and her position.

Yes, she needs a bra intervention. Same as Sophie.

Kate dresses impeccably but it’s so, so dull for a woman barely in middle age.

My friend went to a garden party last week and was one of the ‘lucky proles’ (as she put it - she’s a Republican like me) to get to speak to Charles and Camilla. She said they were both lovely - really interested in everyone they spoke to, and they chatted to people for 2.5 hours. She said Camilla is really attractive in person, but very, very wrinkly.

Horses for courses - I find Queen Letizia fairly dull in her dressing. She generally looks like an Assistant DA (i.e. conservative professional suits) and sometimes very old fashioned (eg skirt suits with appliquéd lace patches, a particular pet hate of mine) and then she’ll suddenly pull out a leather outfit, or a skirt with a big hole in it. She can look amazing, but often she doesn’t.

I admit though I like Queen Maxima of the Netherlands who dresses very adventurously. Sometimes it’s a swing and a miss - but she is never dull!

But don’t you think that Catherine dresses appropriately for the situation she is in? And the same for Camilla? What about the late Queen? She was never fashion forward in her work clothes either. But we don’t know how they dress when not “on duty”. I said previously that what they wear is a tried and tested uniform that works well, doesn’t draw too much attention to them and is always well fitted (underwear issues aside). KP have reiterated that they will not be talking about what the Princess is wearing. They obviously want this to be seen as secondary to the causes that the royals are highlighting at any given time.
As for Camilla’s “wrinkles”, well she isn’t a young woman, she has been a smoker and she may be genetically pre disposed to having wrinkles. What would you like her to do about it? I don’t think aesthetic treatments or surgery would be her style. And good for her

Lifestooshort71 · 24/05/2025 15:25

Camilla has found a style she likes, it's comfortable and decorous to wear and needs little thought - I don't think she's ever been bothered by fashion but always looks suitably dressed.

I agree with pp that Catherine is settling in to her 'future Queen' look and has also developed a style that suits her and the occasion though it would be good to see her in something a bit younger and more fun but these photos will be online for ever and I don't see her as a risk taker. Some of her evening gowns have been stunning - more please!

I think Kate dresses impeccably, but it’s so very dull. The late queen dressed dreadfully, imo. I can’t think of a single good thing to say about it.

I didn’t say Camilla should do anything about her wrinkly face. Just repeating what my mate said. Her mum is 5 years older than Cam, and considerably less wrinkled. Lots of it’s down to luck and smoking is ruinous to the face.

Precisley. So why did it need mentioning? Even if it wasn’t meant as one, it came across as a criticism. As for Kate’s “dull” dressing, I see it as more functional than anything. She is there to do her job. Not dazzle in the fashion stakes. And the late Queen was well aware that her clothes were there as part of her job too. Bright colours so she could be seen, but nothing that could giver rise to a potential wardrobe malfunction or be uncomfortable. So a “dull” uniform is a wise choice imo

I don’t know what Kate’s job is? Turn up, be photographed 🤷‍♀️ Nothing more than that. She’s a show pony. Wearing boring clothes that are too old for her doesn’t add anything. If she was plain like all the other royals, she’d not get column inches, so she should wear better clothes for our amusement. She’s 40 something, not 70.

I’m not someone that sees any point in the royals, tbh.

Surely we are allowed to criticise if we want to? If someone has met a Royal, I want to know what they think, good or bad. Because let's face it, very few people in the UK ever get a glimpse of them!
I have seen QE2, only because I happened to be inside the parade ring at a race meeting, my goodness she was tiny, I didn't meet her or anything, but I was only a few feet away and felt like a giant.

There is a difference between criticism of clothing and criticism of physical attributes. There was no real need to mention that Camilla is “wrinkly”, was there? She is an older lady who has not been lucky in the way her skin has aged. Why is that ok as a subject for criticism?

Much the same way that every bit of Meghan's body is criticised repeatedly, I s'pose.

I presume it's a royalist thing. They can't be criticised.

I think most of us would agree that criticism of Meghan’s body is not ok too. I haven’t seen much of it, other than people saying that she doesn’t dress to suit the body she has. That isn’t a criticism of her actual body, is it? Just saying that she doesn’t make the best of what she has. Equally posters have said in this thread that Sophie wears dresses that are too long for her. That is a style critique, not criticism of her shape

Extiainoiapeial · 24/05/2025 16:34

I have seen a lot of it and I am very surprised you haven't as you are regularly on the threads involving her.

I could list what I have observed but it's all a bit pointless, needless to say her body and face has been criticised greatly.

BemusedAmerican · 24/05/2025 16:41

I think Catherine always looks good and is dressed appropriately for her job. The focus is on the people and cause she is highlighting. Any kind of "risk taking" dressing detracts from her job because then the focus is on her clothes rather than her work. She also seems to be re-wearing clothes, which cuts costs.

I very vividly remember Hilary Clinton being criticized for her clothes and hair back when she was our First Lady and then my senator. There were plenty of men in politics who looked terrible ( hairs, clothes, weight, generally unattractive) who didn't receive the nonstop criticism that Hilary faced every day for her appearance. Standards are still very different for women as compared to men.

As for Meghan, I also agree that she does not dress to flatter herself but if she really likes wearing beige, then more power to her. My one thought when she wore those pants that looked like giant bags last month was that she could seriously hurt herself if she caught a heel in a hem.

I tend to skim over posts that are obviously criticising her body as I don’t think it’s relevant to the discussion. In the same way that it’s not relevant to the discussion of royal style that Camilla has less than perfect skin

Extiainoiapeial · 24/05/2025 16:46

I agree, those trews were hideous, but perhaps they are high fashion or something?! I am imagining what I would look like in them, think I need 🍷 to get over that thought 😂

I think she must take after her Mother. I met the duchess of York 35 years ago, she too never photographed particularly well but in real life she was stunningly beautiful and her skin was amazing.

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 24/05/2025 17:05

I think Beatrice is very striking and looks like a red haired Queen Victoria. She’s not conventionally cookie cutter pretty but she is certainly not ugly or even plain. She has gorgeous eyes and very striking features.

Her style has really evolved recently. I would say she was very eclectic and playful with her outfits in her 20s but now she has gone for more tailored, romantic looks that are less trendy and more timeless. It suits her body type and features. I’ve really enjoyed some of her recent outfits.
