Would anyone like to join me in my attempt to unite the board and discuss our favourite royal outfits (before it enviably turns into another bun fight 🤣)

I’ll start with my favourite Catherine outfits first…

Beatrice is another who leans into vintage 40s and 50s styles, and looks impossibly chic most of the time when doing so.

I could post photos of Beatrice all day. She looks like she has stepped out of a Botticelli painting 🥰😍

Gosh she’s in a different league isn’t she, no wonder she’s a Dior ambassador.

Beatrice married into the House of Grimaldi. Her sister Lavinia is married to the Fiat heir Jon Elkann.

These statuesque Italian aristocrats are definitely in a different league to us poors!

All stunning and I think my favourite is the champagne gold dress she wore at the Monaco Rose Ball way back before she and Pierre were married. It's a work of art.

And yes, she does have a very classic face, like something from a Renaissance painting.

I think this Dior dress is my favourite. It’s giving very gothy, vampire vibes. And those earrings are exquisite!

Very much like another Italian aristocratic beauty who married into the Belgian royal family, Paola Ruffo di Calabria , who married the younger brother of the King of Belgium in the 1960s, and then found herself Queen Paola of Belgium after the King’s death. She hasn’t had the happiest of lives (she and her husband Albert were a love match that soured but then they reconciled) but she was such a beauty when young (she still looks good, to be honest).

I love Queen Maximas style - love the way she embraces prints & colours!

Never seen some of these photos of Beatrice, she is definitely in another league, wow!

deeahgwitch · 28/04/2025 09:52

Oh my Beatrice is stunning in some of those photos. Love the photo of one of her boys cosying into his Dad and the look of love she gives him.

Speaking of brand ambassadors, Lady Kitty Spencer’s wedding was dressed (5 or 6 dresses over the weekend) by Dolce & Gabbana for whom she is an ambassador. I didn’t like the top of her sleeves of her actual wedding dress, but other than that, thought she and her wardrobe looked incredible. Good to know it’s not just Italian aristocrats who have that extra something.

I adore Dolce & Gabanna! I wish Catherine wore more D&G but understand she has to prioritise championing British brands and designers where she can.

Kitty’s dresses are divine! It must be an Italian thing 🤣

Lady Kitty's wedding seemed to be one of those which is basically 'sponsored' by a fashion house. To me it seems tacky, especially when you're as rich as she and her husband are.

She used to be stunning but she has destroyed her face with plastic surgery.

Normally this is my view too. I didn't have that reaction to Lady Kitty's wedding though. I loved the D&G work I saw so much and thought it must be quite special to be able to have such skill and inspiration all focused on you. I also must admit that I don't follow her so I'm not aware of "before vs after" in any work she has done, but it's extremely sad if she damaged herself - I thought she was stunning at her wedding and in other pictures I've casually seen of her.

I agree that the D&G dresses were stunning but when it's all basically product placement it just seems a bit soulless to me.

The worst outfit Diana wore, ever!

Ooh, that is a shocker. I think we were all a bit blinded by frills around that time. I seem to remember even quite smart people proudly dressing their windows with festoon blinds.

That gold dress of Catherine’s is glorious. I love it when she’s a bit brave….

I agree. She was channeling her inner Shirley Bassey there & at a Bond premier who better could you channel

Here Shirley Bassey at the Royal Albert Hall. Just fabulous

I think this thread peaked with Beatrice Borromeo!

But back to the British royals, Princess Alexandra has always been an elegant woman; and, by all accounts, a very nice one.

Love the jacket in the third photo - though think I would have gone for a deeper shade in the hat

I agree the hat needed to be a deeper colour.
Princess Alexandra is such an elegant woman.

It's hard to top Beatrice but I think she doesn't really count as a 'royal' because the Grimaldis are unconstrained by the kind of protocol or worries over appearing too extravagant that other royal women have to abide by. She's more of a model than a 'royal' in that sense.

Beatrice aside, I think Queen Mary is the most consistently stylish of the European royals. She rarely gets it wrong and looks exactly how you'd want a modern Queen to look.

This sparkly midnight blue dress from some years ago is one of my faves, but then I've a weakness for all things sparkly midnight blue!

Alexandra's mother, Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark, Duchess of Kent, was considered a beauty and a style icon in her day.

Almost all of the D&G dresses were magnificent couture creations...I miss the classic red-carpet days when actresses wore beautiful clothes.

The D&G wedding dress was my least favorite...and with such beautiful fabric to work with! The skirt and train were gorgeous, but the top half was a horror!

It is like two different designers stitched together a chimera that went badly wrong on top from the puffed "Anne of Green Gable" sleeves to the weird unflattering corsetry...dear oh dear what a mess!

Hard agreement with everything that you wrote. I could have lived with the bodice on the wedding dress were it not for the terrible shoulder treatment. The fabric, as you say, was spectacular and there were some shots that gave a perfect view of the train, fully laid out. Sumptuous.

I’m not very fashion literate (I learn a ton from these threads) but I can’t help thinking the great stars were more fun to look at when they dressed like Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn.

Just saw Catherine on the Isle of Mull-I can’t help actually feeling how wonderful it must be to not be wearing heels!!

I know. I thought the outfit was a bit odd but I loved the boots. Must be so nice for her not to wear heels.
