The royal family

Why is Sarah Ferguson at the Easter service?

I am really perplexed about why SF attends all Royal events since the death of the Queen when Andrew
is present. She behaves like his wife but she isn’t his wife. What on earth is going on? I cannot think of another situation like this where an ex wife lives with her ex husband and attends all public events with him as though they are still married. It’s bizarre.

I think Christmas tends to be less uniquely Christian. There are a lot more people who don’t “do” Easter. Also I seem to think that from a scriptural point of view, Easter is seen as more significant.

From a country POV, more are bothered about Christmas. We're (supposedly) a Christian country, so perceptions of how the head of state handle Christmas will be more important to them than Easter.

Politics come into it way more than actual religion.

Extiainoiapeial · 21/04/2025 07:48

The family are as strange, perplexing, and dysfunctional as many other families here on Mumsnet.

Yes to this. And in the end, all of them will do exactly what they want to do. They will turn up as much or as little as they want, they only have people advising them and if they want to take no notice that's what they will do. They are a law unto themselves.
Sarah there was strange but there is no way she would be cutting ties with what has been very lucrative for her. She does live on a massive Royal estate after all.

A couple of weeks ago we had noro hit the house. I and DD were both bad, DH was not.

What relevance is the above?

I don’t disagree but I suppose what I am saying is really they are both important for someone who will one day be Supreme Head of the Church of England.

It's relevant as a reply to the poster I quoted. PP said it didn't take both of them to look after their child when ill, so if one of Williams was ill he could still have gone. I pointed out that while DH was fine when we had noro, it probably wouldn't have been fine to send him out into public with the potential to pass on germs.

Context, my friend, is everything.

TheCurious0range · 21/04/2025 07:53

William will end up as a pretty young king compared to Charles who I don't see lasting another decade, he will have plenty of years of duty. I hope he is being encouraged to live a family life while his children are young and before the biggest burdens begin.

But just cos he wasn't visible doesn't mean he's not taking it seriously.

The King often missed the Easter service when he was Prince of Wales. Did people get upset?

The Queen (who I did grow to respect) was absolutely right that the Royals need to be seen

and so they are being seen
the king and queen

As I said above, they spent Easter in Scotland and were always shown to be going to their church up there. I think it was the one they got married in

No it doesn’t I guess.

But it is an important aspect of the role.
I’m surprised to hear Charles missed them as POW.

Yeah I think the whole Epstein thing, the mysterious money, dreadful interview, toe sucking gate are sf the very least on par with slagging off relatives.

.

HufflebuffsAreOn · 21/04/2025 07:59

@IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos do you think the late queen would ever have missed the Easter service because one of her kids was ill? Did your husband stay home the entire time you were ill? No work? I mean it is possible to go out and not spread a bug you don’t have.

Lazycatsitsonthemat · 21/04/2025 08:01

HufflebuffsAreOn · 21/04/2025 07:24

@Nominativebut she doesn’t have cancer anymore and seems to be doing well. He’d be better teaching his kids about duty and work ethic if he wants to do well by them.

He does. I don’t think missing a church service matters.

They weren’t married in Scotland think it was Windsor for blessing and a registry office for official stuff.

I'm not sure he needs any encouragement to do that, he has been very keen to shirk as it is.

And while Charles became king much later in life than William will, he has worked a much much heavier schedule from a much earlier age than William.

I very much doubt we will see William as king any more than we currently do (except for the totally unavoidable state occasions)

I am more bothered that William, who will be the next head of the Church, couldn’t be arsed showing up in one of the major religious festivals.

I wonder if William is being given some leeway because everyone is nervous that he may become King sooner than expected. His children are still so young and Charles getting cancer must have come as a terrible blow for him and his family. Charles hasn’t said that he is cancer free (as Kate did) and it appears that he is still being treated. So “the firm” may be bracing for him becoming King.

He didn't. He went to his local church in Scotland.

Queen is head of state, Prince of Wales is not. But regardless, the Wales' are showing it's possible to be more "normal" and maybe they want to be with their kids when they're ill? Not a foreign concept to most parents.

And with DH and work... he did stay off, because he works in a hospital and was told to keep the noro germs away. Happy?

They weren’t married in Scotland think it was Windsor for blessing and a registry office for official stuff.

It was indeed. They originally wanted a civil ceremony at Windsor Castle, but binned that idea off when they found out that licensing Windsor Castle for their civil ceremony would mean making it available to any members of the public as a venue. So they went with Windsor Register Office for the legal ceremony (private) and had a blessing (televised) at the chapel at Windsor Castle.

Why is it William is referred to as "shirking" because he wants to be more involved in his family than previous royals, but if a "non-royal" dad is a "family man" they are applauded?

Samcro · 21/04/2025 08:08

why is Sarah there? to confuse and make people forget to ask why is odious andy there.

They did not miss the Easter service that they already planned to miss & released a statement about their absence & family time because they actually had the trots 🙄
