The royal family

Why is Sarah Ferguson at the Easter service?

I am really perplexed about why SF attends all Royal events since the death of the Queen when Andrew
is present. She behaves like his wife but she isn’t his wife. What on earth is going on? I cannot think of another situation like this where an ex wife lives with her ex husband and attends all public events with him as though they are still married. It’s bizarre.

Well that wasn't particularly enlightening, maybe next time!

Lovely.

Nice attempt at deflecting, but it doesn't work.

Aww sorry you don't like my food metaphors, I'll try harder next time!

JohnTheRevelator · 21/04/2025 16:59

From what I understand from news articles, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson are still very close. I may be mistaken, but I think they actually still live together? Correct me if I'm wrong!

sofasoda · 21/04/2025 17:02

@Extiainoiapeial I appreciated them!

Does that mean that if you do see an impact it's because you want to?

I would have thought an impact to be something measurable, quantifiable, and objective.

Does be daft. Ever hear of prejudice?

It is a unique situation because their situation is unusual. How many divorced people do you know that live together? Obviously their house is hardly like your average one, but still I think he relies on her heavily and I do think there is an element of gratitude involved, like when it was reported that Charles had asked Sarah to persuade Andrew to sit out of the event at Christmas. He's a difficult character and she helps keep him in check.

She's a loyal subject, never slags off the RF and continues to do her duty (brown noses) and is rewarded for her loyalty.

I agree, she probably knows too much, too. The late queen was reportedly very fond of her.

The queen probably liked her as she kept Andrew away from young girls

Right, so all of you who were lining up to have a go at William and Kate - I assume you will be taking your horrible comments back?!

In fairness I think a lot of people weren’t having a go; they were saying it would be surprising and bad optics. And as it turns out, William seems to agree.

I think when you are that rich it is possible to live together and rarely be together. It’s not like us plebs in our tiny houses.

I’m sure they were going to get remarried at one point? Before his ‘issues’

Are you always this snide and snippy?

Are you?

I have not cast any personal aspersions on your level of intelligence the way you have done towards me.

There is no evidence whatsoever of Andrew being attracted to "young girls"!

If you know different, then cite it.

But that still doesn’t make sense if Charles often didn’t go to Easter at Windsor when he was Prince of Wales. Why are the “optics” bad for William, apart from for those who for whatever reason don’t like him, if Charles did exactly the same thing?

Again, why though? Why is it “surprising” and “bad optics” when there is plenty of precedent?

winter8090 · 21/04/2025 17:27

I think she’s very likeable and fun to be around.

I also think she relies on the financial support.

I would like to know if they are still together. Clearly neither of them are going to move on with new partners while still living together.

I’d really like to hear her story.

How would it be bad optics if he always intended to go to church in Easter Sunday?

Because I think very early on in the discussion the thread got diverted to “why should he even have to go to church at Easter at all?” There was lots of talk about how the children “might” be ill, it might make him a hypocrite etc etc etc.

I think a lot of people - rightly in my opinion - were saying because it’s effectively a significant day ( to sone the most) in the calendar of a religion of which one of his more significant roles as monarch will be to head up. I’m not sure everyone realised the discussion was “ why does he have to be at the very same service as all the others?” I know one poster - who has explained their reasons - felt it ought to have been with Charles, but I think others were just saying “ because acknowledging an important Christian day is appropriate for someone in his position.”

Charles, to my knowledge, did go to church on Easter Day even if not with the Queen.

I think the Henry VIII period and all the wives different beliefs are quite fascinating. I didn't do History at A level or degree level, though but I did get an A in History GCSE! And an A in A level Psychology! 😂

Honestly it was fascinating to research and debate. Henry’s beliefs were all over the place. My theory was that he was more for reform in the church until he got his son, as it was around 1539 that he decided to backtrack and issue more conservative religious acts (Edward was born in 1537). I feel Henry and Jane would have been very shocked to have had such a zealous Reforming Evangelical Protestant as a son considering their own personal beliefs.

CurlewKate · 21/04/2025 17:38

I can’t wait for the Revolution-but I see no reason why William needs to go to Church if he doesn’t want to.

Can you point to a post that says they don’t like him?

I didn’t get that feeling scrolling through the thread.

I did get the feeling people were thinking that if he hadn’t gone, that wouldn’t look good. That doesn’t mean they don’t like him. This isn’t Panto: Boooo!

On the contrary, it is perfectly consistent with a stance of not wanting him to provide more fodder for the droves who seem to want to find fault with each and every thing they do.

Well those two stances are actually consistent.

Incidentally, if anyone’s interested in Henry and the Church, C J Samsom’s Shardlake novels are an easy way to learn a lot!

So why not just say you were wrong, then? Not sure what an A level has got to do with it or an encyclopaedia has got to do with it? I could say well, I didn't even do History A level and still know that Henry VIII believed in Catholicism. But I won't because that would be childish. And I wasn't giving you a quiz (!) I was trying to jog your memory as to the fact that Henry was anti the protestant church.

One of the reasons he tired of Ann and killed her off was because of her Lutheran tendencies, which he deemed heretic.

None of his beliefs changed, he simply broke with Rome as they would not grant him a divorce (since they'd already granted him a Papal Bull to marry his sister in law in the first place and her nephew was an emperor), pronounced himself Head of State and kept the money he would would have sent to Rome.

What relevance this has to Sarah Ferguson attending a family mass, I don't know.

What a fuss over nothing, though.

Well yes he denied being involved with a trafficked 17 year old who he then paid 12million to so clearly there’s nothing going on and he definitely hasn’t got any kind of weird thing for teenagers. He also can’t sweat you know.
