The royal family

Why is Sarah Ferguson at the Easter service?

I am really perplexed about why SF attends all Royal events since the death of the Queen when Andrew
is present. She behaves like his wife but she isn’t his wife. What on earth is going on? I cannot think of another situation like this where an ex wife lives with her ex husband and attends all public events with him as though they are still married. It’s bizarre.

Yeah sure because obviously all that lovely lolly would go straight to where it is needed most! 🙄

Didn’t they say the same thing about Brexit. That they would use the money we saved from the EU to save our NHS 🤷🏼‍♀️

That's the spirit, how depressing!

I don't feel the slightest bit silly. Sorry

I am glad he went to local church. So he should have been. I still think he could have been stood alongside his Dad, the King, at Windsor.

No humble pie here. All opinions welcome.

Some posters should be eating the entire pie never mind a mere slice, the vicious comments that were made!!

sofasoda · 21/04/2025 15:46

Didn’t they say the same thing about Brexit. That they would use the money we saved from the EU to save our NHS

No, some people lied about how much money would be saved. And unfortunately many believed it.

smilesy · 21/04/2025 14:15

So what’s the difference?

There's no difference. Just some people can't resist the slightest opportunity to give William and Catherine a metaphorical kicking! Egg on their faces this time!! 😃

Well, I can quite believe that!

Right, so all of you who were lining up to have a go at William and Kate - I assume you will be taking your horrible comments back?!

Are you taking back all your horrible comments? Will you stop making horrible comments and having a go at others?

Myrtle Because - in my opinion - (other opinions are available!). I think the Royal Family needs shoring up somewhat at the moment. It would look good for the King and heir to be together at Easter Sunday service (with or without Kate and children, if she needed time out).
That is fine if you think that is a ridiculous idea, it is just what I think at the moment. William not going to Windsor Easter service at all looked bad, (in my opinion). Yes, it is good to hear that William and Kate went to church at Sandringham, I just feel it is disappointing he couldn't stand alongside his Dad who only in February was in hospital for side effects of cancer treatment.

He was hospitalised for a few hours. I don't think the RF does need "shoring up" - that's just wishful thinking on the part of some. The king is carrying out business as usual. There's no requirement for both of them to go to church together.

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 21/04/2025 15:52

Extiainoiapeial · 21/04/2025 14:21

She wasn't suffering from cancer for 15 years was she

He's not 96 either!

Yes. Whether they like it or now, William and Catherine are very popular and are the most popular royals among all age groups. Nothing bar William deciding to abdicate or a massive scandal is going to change that. Certainly not something as silly as not attending a non mandatory public Easter service but instead choosing to worship in private with his family at their local church. But it makes the haters feel happy, who are we to spoilt their fun.

Extiainoiapeial · 21/04/2025 15:53

Goodness me... it's all about food... humble pie, egg on face, what other metaphors can we use?

It's as easy as pie to stand by my opinion, it's a piece of cake. And Andrew and Sarah prancing about was rubbing salt in the wound, they seem to ride the gravy train as far as I'm concerned.

That'll do for now! 🤣

Like you cant just wait for the best tiny thing the other pair do to give them another kicking.

myrtleWilson · 21/04/2025 15:54

Things have improved for the Royals then! In 2001in that age category (18-24) 48% didn't want a RF
(looked for 2000 for roundness of numbering but could only find breadown of ages in 2001 article)

And the sovereign grant is £134m. It would help or should we not bother because its just too much. Lets just think oh no it's in the billoons lets not try find money from where we can
Like I said they both don't seem to want to do it so let's have them give it up live off their Duchy money and take the taxpayers money back to pay towards things that will actually make a difference. I'm sure people in Birmingham would prefer the council got some of that money and the bin strikes ended.

And you think a penny of that money would ever go to Birmingham?? Naive.

Anyone in the workplace doing it would be given their own space and time to do it, as is in most companies there is a prayer room ..well ones I've worked in have. So not sure what company you work for but what a shame they aren't inclusive. And people aren't made to participate.

Edited

I work in a large public sector organisation and there are no prayer rooms. Pray on your own time!

Your opinion on what? That William has to worship in the same place as the monarch at Easter, even when the King himself didn’t do that when Prince of Wales? Even when William did actually attend Church in Norfolk at Easter, thus not ignoring the occasion? It seems a bit of a silly position to maintain unless it is simply a reason to personally criticise William

Sunshineandpool · 21/04/2025 15:58

I actually find it a bit hypocritical to go to church if you don't believe. I would have more respect if William said he couldn't become the figurative head of the CofE due to not having faith. I'm not sure there is any reason the king/queen has to be head of the church?

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 21/04/2025 15:58

sofasoda · 21/04/2025 15:24

Social media doesn’t work like that. If someone posts that they’ve seen them, neither the media nor William can stop it from spreading.

I didn't say anything about social media, I was talking about the press & the articles linked upthread were press not social media. Why have the skiing photos not being posted in the UK press?

Maybe because it was a private holiday? Just a wild guess?

Honestly I think some people forgot the really dark years of the RF. The 1990s were a total shit show. Not attending a private Easter service isn't going to topple anything.

I gave examples of how better that money could be used to improve our lives more so than what they are supposedly doing.

You said that Henry VIII established himself as the head of the protestant church which shows a complete lack of understanding of history. What did Catherine Parr get herself into trouble with Henry about?

I did and I was wrong, but that was not what I meant! OK! I got an A in my A level History so I guess I must have understood that ok... but it was more than 40 years and I don't have an encyclopedia for a brain!! I will not be quizzed by you either!

RareGoalsVerge · 21/04/2025 16:01

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 21/04/2025 15:22

He established what became a Protestant church!

No, what he did was to establish a version of catholicism within England that had the same basic theology as Roman Catholicism but did not owe allegiance to the Pope. He still burned protestants for heresy. Even under Queen Elizabeth I, the Church of England was attempting to be an umbrella under which both protestants and catholics could operate without having to openly declare which "side" they were on - she did execute catholics who didn't acknowledge the crown's supremacy but didn't require any protestant articles of faith to be accepted. James I (&VI) persecuted both catholics and puritans. The whole thing remained very much mixed up (with regular variations as several subsequent kings were indeed Catholic) until William&Mary who were more enthusiastically protestant.
