The royal family

Why is Sarah Ferguson at the Easter service?

I am really perplexed about why SF attends all Royal events since the death of the Queen when Andrew
is present. She behaves like his wife but she isn’t his wife. What on earth is going on? I cannot think of another situation like this where an ex wife lives with her ex husband and attends all public events with him as though they are still married. It’s bizarre.

I’m sure I read that William is not a church-goer and does not regard himself as religious.

I’d be skiving off church too, if I were him. He likely has many years ahead where he won’t be able to get away with not showing up.

A) None of your business, and does not affect you in even one tiny way

B) They did not want to divorce, were pushed into it (by people reacting badly to her admittedly bad behaviour), and have remained very close since

C) She is still the mother of the King's nieces

MightAsWellBeGretel · 21/04/2025 10:02

Why, when she doesn't have to? She clearly hasn't been bothered so far why would she start being bothered now? And what difference does it make to you?

This was a private family event, rather than a state one, and for whatever reason, the RF consider her a part of their inner circle. She's not on the civil list, the tax payer doesn't bank roll her, it's no-one's business really (although a little intriguing, granted), which is why there's never been any statement or public clarification of the nature of their relationship.

Lol, I'm sure she pays for half the leccy bill for a vast Royal estate out of her private money. Not!

I am more bothered that William, who will be the next head of the Church, couldn’t be arsed showing up in one of the major religious festivals.

Well this really. William's laziness is odd & really concerning. Kate too: I know she has been ill but she is supposedly better now yet we hardly see her either.

King Charles otoh has kept working throughout his illness. I am not KC's greatest fan but one thing he is not is lazy.

snowmichael · 21/04/2025 10:11

ThisFluentBiscuit · 21/04/2025 00:55

It makes me wonder if Kate isn't doing so well, so weird is it for him to miss the most important event in the Christian calendar, given that he's the next head of the church. But I think he's indicated recently that he has no faith. He's never seen going to church, ever. I'm very unimpressed; it's his job, and is why he has all the crazy riches that he does. He should go to church at Easter, and some Sundays, if not every one, and keep his lack of faith to himself.

So you'd rather have a lying hypocrite as head of state than an honest man?

I think she wants her cake and eat it….and make a trifle too. She gets to live in a fabulous house, waited on hand and foot and stay relatively relevant to the public so she can get work/sell her books. Can’t blame her really!

Allegedly that has been an issue with Sarah her whole adult life. After leaving school she worked at an art gallery and then a couple of PR agencies, but in her early 20s met and became the girlfriend of a former racing driver who ran PR for F1, and who was vey wealthy. When they split she was apparently very reluctant to give up on the monied lifestyle to which she had become accustomed.

If Andrew and by extension Sarah are genuinely repentant Christians attending Church on Easter Sunday then I have no quibble with that….but somehow I doubt it. I’d rather both of them had the self-awareness to recognise how publicly unpopular they are, and avoid any family events that involve public appearances.

Erm, I'd say having sex with under-age girls and being friends with a paedo is a pretty good way to disrespect your family!

Which underage girls are you libellously accusing him of having sex with?

snowmichael · 21/04/2025 10:16

DrPrunesqualer · 21/04/2025 01:47

Agree. He will be head of the church.
Cant imagine the Pope finds other things that are more important to do at Easter. Or any Sunday tbh,

Not a good precedent to quote today

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 21/04/2025 01:48

He established himself as head of the Protestant church!!

Go read some history books
No he didn't

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 21/04/2025 02:02

In 1534, Henry VIII declared himself supreme head of the church of England lol!

Which was a Catholic church, with the Catholic liturgy and |Mass

C) She is still the mother of the King's nieces

A) It does affect us when ultimately we are paying for it, and the public support of an alleged abuser reflects badly on us as a country.

B) If outsiders can push them unwillingly into a divorce what does that say about them? Would you divorce against your will purely because others pushed you into it?

C) Diana was the mother of a future king yet it didn't stop the RF ruthlessly pushing her out.

sofasoda · 21/04/2025 10:19

Is that you Fergie?

IdaGlossop · 21/04/2025 10:22

IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos · 21/04/2025 07:36

Or maybe he went elsewhere with his family, more quiet and private, after a very difficult year?

Maybe someone wasn't well? Him, his wife, one of his kids?

Also, Christmas is probably the Christian festival of the year...

I'm a fan of William and Catherine and think they will do a great job when their time comes. It does make sense that they want to spend as much time as they can with their family while they can but occasionally they do things (or don't do them) which add fuel to their 'workshy' reputation.

We make more of the festival of Christmas but Easter is more important, surely, for without the resurrection, Christianity wouldn't have developed.

Futurehappiness · 21/04/2025 10:26

'This was a private family event, rather than a state one'

Then it won't be added to the Court Circular.

I think it’s an excellent precedent to quote today.

The Pope showed up when he was literally on death’s door. Can’t imagine William doing that.

Extiainoiapeial · 21/04/2025 10:27

I just find it odd. William could have been helicoptered to Windsor from Norfolk, go to the Easter service, back again ready for Easter egg hunt and Ma Middleton's famous leg of lamb.
Such an easy keep everyone happy attendance.
It just does come across as not caring what people think to me. And it doesn't bode well for the future as far as I'm concerned. Only my opinion.

Futurehappiness · 21/04/2025 10:28

I can't stand Andrew and I don't have a lot of time for 'Fergie'. But I think a lot of the outrage about him (and Harry/Meghan come to that) is to distract from the fact that the heir to the throne is a lazy waste of space.

Zipping about by helicopter doesn’t bode well for the future, either.

Yas! A historical debate on Henry VIII’s religious identity is what I live for.

He definitely wasn’t what we call a Protestant nowadays, he was still a Catholic in all but name. He still believed in Transubstantiation and other Catholic doctrine as seen in the Six Articles of 1539. He also executed three Papists and three Lutherans on the same day in July 1540. He just didn’t want to submit to the Pope any more. He may have been interested in some reform (probably thanks to Anne Boleyn and Cromwell) but then realised the profits filled his coffers nicely and he could still pick and choose what he liked.

History nerd and proud 🤓

This is exactly how I feel.

I like them both, have compassion for what they have both been through, and don’t envy their lot, which I see is less about privilege and more about intrusion and difficulty.

However the role is the role and I do think William could sometimes make things easier for himself. Whatever many might think about the irrelevance of Easter, many do still see the role of the RF in the C of E as important, at least at a symbolic level, and truthfully that demographic probably contains some of their most loyal supporters. Perhaps he went elsewhere, however. We don’t know.

Naysayers would criticise him for flying around in a helicopter. He cannot really win.

As I say, they do it all the time. But this time it would be for a valid reason. Church on Easter Sunday
