Both men were born princes, and people will always think of them like that. But the point is to stop them/their wives from gaining financially from those titles/association with the royal family (in addition to stopping them making a mockery of those who don't, devaluing the titles themselves etc). Not doing so makes members like William and Catherine, Edward and Sophie, Anne potentially guilty of the same thing. They need to look like they absolutely do not tolerate such personal enrichment. They need to put distance between themselves and these mavericks, to maintain their own image. All the reports of Harry's calls going unanswered (for other reasons) help.

There are many advantages to removing the dukedoms, but it has to be done correctly and in context.

The real issue is their children. Beatrice and Eugenie are Princesses in the same way as Archie is Prince and Lilbet is Princess. And yet the latter two have absolutely nothing to do with the UK and the RF other than being Harry's children/KC3's grandchildren. I think this, and Andrew's age and relative toothlessness, is why Andrew might not lose his titles but Harry's family might (I think he will retain his "Prince").

I see where you are coming from but I think removing the association runs deeper than just the titles.

Who knows what goes on behind closed doors.

I don't understand why William doesn't support his father more. Showing a united front and all that. It would be refreshing to see William and Charles do a couple of engagements together for instance

I agree, I think their power is in numbers tbh.

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 17/04/2025 22:42

Trying to think, did we often see TLQ and Charles do joint engagements? I don't recall? The Queen was usually with Philip until he retired.

TulipTiptoer · 17/04/2025 22:45

The Queen wasn't suffering with cancer in her 70s.

Whatever went before, doesn't mean to say it has to stay the same.

Not sure but the Queen just had more star power imo

Obviously not.

She did but I think Charles is doing ok.

The late Queen was quite unique.

Yes, and it is different times in all sorts of ways. The Queen in her 70s was robust, healthy and doing what she's done for decades.
Charles is pushing himself out there, despite side effects from cancer treatment, and I think Camilla suffers health problems too. I am just surprised that William doesn't undertake more in support of his father and as I say, a couple of joint engagements to show strength together would look good in showing a united front.

I think a different approach is needed. Just my opinion of course

Neither William or Kate will be at the Easter service, they're spending it in Norfolk, they normally go as a family but missed it last year for obvious reasons
I read Andrew and Sarah have chosen to dip out too, no idea if that is true or not!

milleniumstar · 18/04/2025 07:01

I am surprised at how much KC is doing tbh.

The DM readers who are normally ardent supporters are not happy with WIlliam! I do think the less you are seen the less relevant you become but I'm not bothered if the Royal family go the way of the European royals so not the target audience.

MadeInGrimsby · 18/04/2025 07:25

Interestingly, the Daily Mail has never been an"ardent" royal supporter. They have often run negative stories about Charles, Camilla and William in particular.
They seem to be a bit more positive about Harry and Meghan now, I think they must be feeding them more information, and there's a couple of Sussex friendly journalists, Bryony Gordon and, it seems, Liz Jones.

I don't really admire many of those European royals. The Monaco family?
Also, the Danish royals seem to do a lot of very regal events and are certainly seen with the tiara bling a lot more. I don't necessarily think they're better.

milleniumstar · 18/04/2025 07:41

@MadeInGrimsby I meant the comments from the readers, I have noticed a switch in recent months. And I don't think the european royals are better just meant that they are more commonly only ceremonial.

Ok, right. Sorry, I didn't get that. I have never read the comments, as I suspect that wouldn't be good for my blood pressure!

milleniumstar · 18/04/2025 07:52

They can be quite funny but also scary!

themightysossidge · 18/04/2025 08:01

I would hardly judge anyone based on readers' comments on the DM 😂 most of them seem like frustrated nutcases with deviant names. Now there's a thought!

milleniumstar · 18/04/2025 08:08

I don't disagree there are fruit loops but it has a huge readership so I think it can be quite fascinating to see what comments thousands are upvoting.

Mylovelygreendress · 18/04/2025 08:46

It strikes me that the DM can be believed if it is a pro Sussex comment but can’t be trusted if it’s anti 🤷‍♀️

NewAgeNewMe · 18/04/2025 08:48

So true!

What does that mean? DM readers clearly aren't fans of H&M!!!

I agree. I loathe the DM but sometimes stray onto comments because, to me, it gives me an idea of what the typical readership of that sort of media thinks. And oh my, the Royalists are a getting fed up with the heir and wife. I've not seen that before in previous years. They need to take heed.

So, the comments hold validity only when they're against William and Kate?

Ah, that's where you're wrong.
It's the Daily Mail that publishes pro H&M or anti W&C articles.
It's the Daily Fail/Heil that publishes anything anti H&M.

Could you show me, in my post, where I said that?

I didn't. I am only discussing William and Kate here. I found it interesting that the mood had changed on there.
