Lol I think you are the one pretending!

So you say you think 'some' are disappointed he wasn't there but that's not me. And I have no idea who, especially as we are told time and time again that everyone thinks he is a moron, so I am confuzzled by 'some' wanting him to be there

Punctuation

I've explained how it will be for some people on here. If you don't understand or don't want to acknowledge that then I don't care but I can't explain it in simpler terms.

CurlewKate · 07/05/2025 15:46

Lots of the Royal family saw service. As far as I know, only 2 now living actually in combat.

NewAgeNewMe · 07/05/2025 15:49

Duke of Kent’s father was killed during the war IIRC.

Samcro · 07/05/2025 16:01

First of all I didn't say YOU would be disappointed 🤷‍♀️ I didn't mention YOU at all. I made a general comment.

Of course the people who like to drag up Andrew into any piece about Harry and Meghan and the RF would have loved for him to have been there on the balcony. It would have encouraged a swell of posts that the RF love and support him and are showing him off for the world to see. That's the whole point of this thread so yes I'm positive that there were people who were disappointed he wasn't there. It was a missed opportunity.

Let's not pretend here.

this thread was started way before the VE day celebrations. so its not the point of the tread.

Irrelevant to the point being made - detractors of the RF would have loved Andrew to be there so they could bring it up. It's all very simple. I don't know why people pretend otherwise.

The Duke of Kent was there. Did he see action in WW2, I know Prince Philip did?

I think he was too young. He's 14 years younger than the late Prince Philip.

Thanks for answering. He looks so ancient these days I wasn't sure!

Maybe because it's not true? It's your opinion that carries no more weight than mine

MrsLeonFarrell · 07/05/2025 16:52

I am so glad Andrew doesn't appear at this sort of event anymore. Aside from the fact he shouldn't be a working royal with all the scandals, he is a big distraction from whatever the event is supposed to be about. We saw this when he escorted the late Queen to a big church service, it became all about him and I can't even remember what the service was for.

I'm on the fence about him going to church at Christmas and Easter. They seem to be private family events that the public attend rather than official engagements and as such I can see why he attends. But then his presence distracts again and his attitude always comes across really badly as well. It seems that the ability to be ashamed of his behaviour went the same way as the sweating.

Maybe if he keeps going to church he'll learn some humility?

TulipTiptoer · 07/05/2025 16:55

I totally agree @MrsLeonFarrell

The celebrations were primarily about the veterans. Then of course the royals greeting and talking to them. And it would've been headlines about Andrew if he'd rolled up
So glad that this time he was nowhere to be seen

NewAgeNewMe · 07/05/2025 17:31

Agreed.

You play the game but you don't think there are people who would have loved Andrew to be there so they could say so on this thread? Of course there are. This thread shows it from the beginning. I'm just honest about what I see on here. I don't pretend to be " baffled " by it.

themightysossidge · 07/05/2025 18:22

I certainly am glad that Andrew was not there. He has no relevant role in the RF going forward.

You appear to be excellent at mind reading!

Samcro · 07/05/2025 18:26

I think someone is on a wind up.
how they can know what other people are thinking is beyond me.

Late to this but I agree.

It takes some pretty impressive mental gymnastics to conclude:

detractors of the RF would have loved Andrew to be there so they could bring it up

when there are more than enough documented occasions the royals have publicly had him on tag along to disapprove of already.

No-one wants to see his smug boat at another.

themightysossidge · 07/05/2025 20:48

Samcro · 07/05/2025 12:37

he goes to church when he know it will be photographed.
does he go every sunday ? I doubt it, he just turns up a couple of times a year when it is quite public.
Im sure if he wanted to quietly go to church it could happen.

Yet here you are knowing what Andrew thinks 🤷‍♀️

Yes it's hard to respond to that isn't it ? It's clear to many on here what we see. It's hardly rocket science. The pretence is pathetic.

Duke of Kent’s father was killed during the war IIRC.

You do remember correctly. The current Duke of Kent, now an old man, was in one of the services- army I think. He and his lovely wife were stationed abroad after they were married, for a while, iirc.
His father, also D of K, was killed in WW2 - husband of Marina and father of Edward, Alexandra and Michael.

NewAgeNewMe · 07/05/2025 21:23

Thank you i did remember!

My2cents1975 · 07/05/2025 22:01

What would be interesting is if an investigative reporter looked into how exactly W's impending deployment to the Middle East was leaked to press. I recall articles from that time said the leak originated from the royal household.

There were very few people who knew so I do not think it would be too hard to, by the process of elimination, zero in on the likely culprit.
