Why on earth would it be disappointing?

I was very pleased that Charles took a firm stance and Andrew was nowhere to be seen. That IMO was as it should be. Many posters have said on here that they don't want to see him at these functions or indeed, at all, so I'm not sure why we would be disappointed.
How odd

themightysossidge · 07/05/2025 04:47

Not odd at all. You know what I mean .

TulipTiptoer · 07/05/2025 06:19

I really don't!

Why would I be disappointed he wasn't at the VE day celebration when I (and others) have repeatedly said on all the threads referring to him, we don't want to see his face again at these engagements.

Not getting it, I'm baffled!

NewAgeNewMe · 07/05/2025 06:55

It was clearly working royals and under 18 dcs only on Monday.

CurlewKate · 07/05/2025 07:16

Bizarre that the two members of the RF who actually saw combat are both barred from the VE commemorations.

Edited

Andrew was barred for very obvious reasons. Perhaps you disagree, but I can see the logic.
Harry hasn't been barred. He chose to step down as a working royal, move away and pursue a celebrity lifestyle. He is not the victim in this.

Which makes sense to me. Unless you're a very staunch royalist who thinks they all should have been included!

NewAgeNewMe · 07/05/2025 07:43

No constitutional monarchist so I think it’s a sensible decision. Streamlined and it looked neat, not zillions on the balcony just because ‘family’!

ThePoshUns · 07/05/2025 08:14

Yes it’s a far better look, I agree.

I didn’t say he was a victim. Neither of them are victims. And it’s right that neither of them were there. I was just commenting on the coincidence of the two royals who have actually seen combat not being at the event.

needmoresheep · 07/05/2025 08:32

Yes but one (ex-Spare1) is deeply unpopular and his presence, in spite of his combat experience, would have caused offence to many.

As for ex-Spare 2, well he threw his toys out of the pram and is sulking in California, refusing to visit because the UK isn’t safe. Even the palaces are not secure enough for him 🙄 so how could he possibly be on the balcony. His Rich Haughtiness was busy instructing lawyers in his next court battle with the media.

Balcony looked at lot better with fewer people.

Samcro · 07/05/2025 09:33

why do we need to name call. its boring.
even the RF must have realised that having PA there would have been a mistake.
Im glad he didn't get a chance to play dress up. I still think its time the RF stopped being seen with him in public at all .
one thing monday showed is that you don't need the york family at all.

Totally agree

No one has suggested that Harry should be on the balcony so no idea why he's even brought up on this thread in that way..

However...Andrew does attend things, as I missed most of the coverage, I had no idea if he was sulking in the background

CurlewKate · 07/05/2025 11:04

I mentioned Harry on this thread. And as I pressed send, I wished I hadn’t! I was only commenting on the fact that there are two members of the RF who have seen active service and neither of them, for different reasons both self imposed, could be there.

You said "barred". Sounded like he was - yet again - the victim of a situation.
He's been "barred" from nothing.

I agree, except that Andrew doesn't attend things anymore. He goes to church on Christmas Day and Easter, which, in all honesty he should be allowed to do, and I think that's ok. Otherwise we don't see him, which is fine by me!

Samcro · 07/05/2025 12:37

he goes to church when he know it will be photographed.
does he go every sunday ? I doubt it, he just turns up a couple of times a year when it is quite public.
Im sure if he wanted to quietly go to church it could happen.

First of all I didn't say YOU would be disappointed 🤷‍♀️ I didn't mention YOU at all. I made a general comment.

Of course the people who like to drag up Andrew into any piece about Harry and Meghan and the RF would have loved for him to have been there on the balcony. It would have encouraged a swell of posts that the RF love and support him and are showing him off for the world to see. That's the whole point of this thread so yes I'm positive that there were people who were disappointed he wasn't there. It was a missed opportunity.

Let's not pretend here.

But you said " barred" which isn't accurate.

MrsLeonFarrell · 07/05/2025 15:12

The Duke of Kent was there. Did he see action in WW2, I know Prince Philip did?

LaMarschallin · 07/05/2025 15:19

I think he was too young. He's 14 years younger than the late Prince Philip.

As you say too young for WW2 but he did serve in the Army for quite some time...

Yes, I know.
I was answering the question about whether he saw action in WW2.
He certainly saw military service.
