Watching the news about the horrendous rubbish problem in Birmingham, this was followed by Kates film clip rambling about Windermere saying we need to connect with nature and couldn’t help thinking it was inappropriate.I bet cancer sufferers in Birmingham would love to do this instead of holding down a job worrying about col doing chores that I bet she never does and have stinking rubbish with rats in the streets. I have no problem with her video but thought the timing was so off. They sometimes need to read the room.

Blimey. I am genuinely surprised. I’m a Republican so I have made a lot of comments about my dislike of the RF at large. But I can’t remember being specifically unpleasant about the PofW in particular. Even on this thread, my objection was to the Scouting Movements message. Not the person delivering it. But hey ho. If my comments are that notorious I am sure you can provide some evidence?

So I also thought you particularly disliked Kate (and William) and it always makes me smile because of your username!

Says she who started a thread after Catherine’s diagnosis because you felt guilty about the things you said and then promptly changed your mind and told posters not to feel guilty!

CurlewKate · 17/04/2025 17:54

@BigWillyLittleTodgerwow, your memory! What I actually did was start a thread saying that the PofW’s diagnosis had been a shock and I was worried that people would feel guilty-and be made to feel guiltier for joining in the mostly(but not entirely) good humoured gossip that was flying around. I didn't want people to feel complete shit about something they couldn’t possibly have known about. However it couldn’t have worked because so many other people wanted them to feel like complete shit. And said so. Loudly. And unkindly.

utterexasperation · 17/04/2025 18:05

@CurlewKateyou cannot be serious ?

" I was worried that people would feel guilty - and be made to feel guiltier for joining in the mostly( but not entirely) good humoured gossip that was flying around."

Good humoured gossip?

People were unkind about people who had spoken about beatings, death, divorce, Brazilian bum lifts, affairs, suicide and all the other crap that was spouted?

I think you need to reflect on your participation if this is how you have framed it to yourself.

Wow, everyone remembers your thread. And yes, @utterexasperation, it's total bullshit to describe any of that as good humored. Those same people speculating on DV, affairs and the rest knew full well she had had serious abdominal surgery and was in recovery. Didn't stop them being utterly vile. They should feel like shit.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 17/04/2025 18:16

You know full well it wasn’t good humoured gossip, hence your thread, it was vile on here, down play it all you like and your part in it and as for this:-

it couldn’t have worked because so many other people wanted them to feel like complete shit. And said so. Loudly. And unkindly.

Tough shit, if someone posts vicious and untrue things on here expect to be pulled up on it and if you don’t like unkind responses don’t post unkind things in the first place.

It wasn't "mostly" good humoured gossip @CurlewKate and you know that. Absolutely vile things were said, about Kate and most especially William. It didn't take that much wit to realise that a woman who was already out of action after surgery might actually be quite ill, given the lack of real info coming out. Many of us managed it.

Yep, another here who remembers the thread well and for all the wrong reasons.

Good humoured gossip ?? It was some of the nastiest stuff I have ever seen on MN .
You should be ashamed of yourself .

NautilusLionfish · 17/04/2025 18:42

@portocristo The problem is, there is always a big problem somewhere in uk. Somewhere in the world. So royal news will almost always crash with some horrendous news. One option is to get rid of the monarchy altogether. But they will still be reported as persons of interest. Another option is that you start a petition on parliament petitions but make sure you are suggesting a specific solution. Hopefully you can get enough support for it to at least be debated. One of those solutions could be again getting rid or royalty or royal news, another could be having bad news at 6 and all good and/or naff news at 7. That way those that feel like you can tune in to the bad news only or the good news. And may be mixed news at 9.

MaturingCheeseball · 17/04/2025 18:58

I’ve read it all now! Worried about people being made to feel bad after writing incredibly nasty, nay, vicious, stuff. How far can one contort oneself to defend the indefensible?

vera99 · 17/04/2025 19:09

They can't be arsed to attend an Easter service - beyond disgraceful - there are 2 fixed points in the Christian calendar - Christmas and Easter and if the heir and future head of the CofE can't be bothered to find some time to attend and do the national service then we have to wonder who they really are and what purpose they serve. Utterly disgraceful on so many levels.

These are the best rated comments under the article. But time for Aston Villa. Quite. Meanwhile what fresh horrors have H&M committed - like done something useful . Quelle horreur.

C'mon guys, ease up on Curlew. After all, it's a complicated cancer narrative she's projecting about the Scouts (and any previous threads she may have started).

Meh, I can't get too het up over him missing one (did Charles ever skip any when he was PoW?).
He may attend a local church service. It is just a photo op (which I thought was bad, no?)

He has stepped up his engagements since becoming PoW and looks like he will continue to do so, which is good and he does need to.

It's more symbolic for the Monarch to be there.

It is an interesting discussion to be had. How relevant is the title Head of the CoE in today's society?

Mylovelygreendress · 17/04/2025 19:27

How do you know he isn’t planning to attend a service at Sandringham?

Because any PR worth their salt would flag it and they haven't. QE2 wouldn't have stood for this - it's about optics and putting the hours in after 3 holidays , Taylor Swift and Aston Villa it's not on and bigly. Charles probably knows he can't control the pair and has given up. They aren't reading the room big time on this one for sure.

Or the monarchy for that matter if we are going to put tradition into the blender spare no prisoners ! If they want to ski on that slippery slope then so be it ! Bring it on !
