Watching the news about the horrendous rubbish problem in Birmingham, this was followed by Kates film clip rambling about Windermere saying we need to connect with nature and couldn’t help thinking it was inappropriate.I bet cancer sufferers in Birmingham would love to do this instead of holding down a job worrying about col doing chores that I bet she never does and have stinking rubbish with rats in the streets. I have no problem with her video but thought the timing was so off. They sometimes need to read the room.

Btw I'm in Birmingham currently. I haven't seen any excessive rubbish, hysterical news items again

WonderingWanda · 16/04/2025 18:19

portocristo · 16/04/2025 13:28

I repeat I never said it was Kates problem and I am truly glad she is in remission, I think the clip would be uplifting for people but not straight after the Birmingham news. That was the point I was making.

I'm sure all the people (not just the cancer sufferers) affected by the rubbish situation in Birmingham have had enough of it but that's not really a reason to whinge about Kate doing something for the Scouts on the news.
I imagine the people of Gaza, Sudan and the Ukraine wish that their problems were as insignificant as some rubbish piled up on street corners and a few rats...does that mean we shouldn't report on the rubbish?

portocristo · 16/04/2025 18:20

I don’t think so you are over thinking it

There will always be awful things happening in the world…. Followed by a fluffy price on a dog with 3 legs who has recused a child from down a well

watching the news right now and it was a piece about children who have died in hospital followed by a piece about wildlife killed by wild fire , now vaping

that’s the news, everyone understands that , I don’t expect the articles to relate to each other particularly

I think in some ways you have a point. It’s very easy to say get out to nature and in reality a lot harder for people to actually do.

Especially in this country where lots of the countryside is private land, or pay to park, or you have to drive to it and public transport is expensive.

sort of linked (but not Grin)but Birmingham is great for easy access to nature. It has very accessible large parks and is surprisingly green.

before I moved I was never more than a bus journey away from woods or hills. I’ve been SE for a while now and on paper surrounded by much more ‘nature’ but accessible nature is much harder to come by and hills are non-existent!

Radra · 16/04/2025 18:22

I find the slow mo life insurance/shampoo ad type video absolutely ridiculously self indulgent and nauseating but it has nothing to do with Birmingham

Uricon2 · 16/04/2025 18:24

Sorry, this does sound like a pop at Kate TBH.

Fetchthevet · 16/04/2025 18:27

I do see your point OP.

On a different note, does anyone know if Kate has given up shooting pheasants now she's so into nature? There have been pictures of her shooting in the past, presumably she doesn't do it now?

BigWillyLittleTodger · 16/04/2025 18:27

Maybe you could contact the broadcaster and suggest they put a trigger warning before they report on a royal visit 🙄.

portocristo · 16/04/2025 18:34

I don’t think you it’s just an opinion on a chat forum

Of course it is. Very nasty.

It's not what I think I was trying to demonstrate how ridiculous your thinking is!

What Kate is doing for the scouts is unrelated to cancer sufferers in Birmingham as is what is happening in Birmingham to what is happening in war zones.

I don't know, but they are classed as an invasive species so there is a strong environmental argument for not releasing them for the purposes of shooting; aside from the ethics of bloodsport.

(I point this out purely factually, as I love a bit of pheasant on the rare occasions our fishmonger has some in).

Pheasant and partridge classified as species that imperil UK wildlife

Shooting interests in England will need licence to release non-native birds near nature reserves

Absolutely. Many people are lucky enough to be within walking distance of lovely parks. Im
also from the SE and also now live in the SW and it’s surprisingly hard to get to much nature. The local woods near me you have to pay parking now to the local council when it used to be free. Just one of the little ways it’s been made more difficult to access nature.

NewAgeNewMe · 16/04/2025 19:02

Dc was at university in Birmingham. Their house was overrun with rats and that was years ago.

I love a bit of pheasant and I’m an ex vegetarian. I blame the bacon sandwich following the hangover from Hell.

I know that people like to criticise the royals, but this one is scraping the barrel. Anyway, Birmingham has Sutton park, it’s enormous and has a lake. Hopefully there’s no huge mounds of rubbish there.

Gosh, don't let a Sutton resident hear you call them part of Birmingham, they'll throw a fit.

My neighbourhood isn't noticeably overwhelmed by rubbish. I've seen a few passive aggressive posts about where people put their rubbish, but no mounds of actual rubbish, so the notes must work.

I'm also from the Lakes, so I'm pretty happy with encouragement to enjoy it in a healthy way.

Who the heck are you replying to each time you bung up a couple of random words?

Your whole post is completely ridiculous tbh

TheCryingTheBitchAndTheFloordrobe · 16/04/2025 17:33

Why on earth are people getting so defensive about this?
It's obvious that OP isn't having a pop at Kate, just talking about potentially insensitive scheduling on the part of the broadcaster!

Then why didn’t she say that then?

Uricon2 · 16/04/2025 19:07

Gosh, don't let a Sutton resident hear you call them part of Birmingham, they'll throw a fit.😂they certainly will.

Not as badly and for different reasons to if you call part of the Black Country Birmingham of course (I'm a wench and know what of I speak)

She's been skiing recently hence the planned released video of "work". As pp said it's for the Royalists who love it 🤷🏻‍♀️

jeffgoldblum · 16/04/2025 19:23

So … checks notes … the princess of wales… cancer video is insensitive to bins in Birmingham? Really? 🤔

Im not a Royalist but I don’t begrudge a mother of three young kids continuing to relish the fact that she has been given the all-clear from cancer, and trying to give a bit of hope to others.

Fluffyholeysocks · 16/04/2025 19:34

Judging by the daily misery that is the news, I think the schedulers would be hard pressed to place the piece about Kate anywhere appropriate! After the prison officers stabbing? Future of British Steel ? Increase in tariffs? Perhaps just leave it until after the weather forecast....
