Watching the news about the horrendous rubbish problem in Birmingham, this was followed by Kates film clip rambling about Windermere saying we need to connect with nature and couldn’t help thinking it was inappropriate.I bet cancer sufferers in Birmingham would love to do this instead of holding down a job worrying about col doing chores that I bet she never does and have stinking rubbish with rats in the streets. I have no problem with her video but thought the timing was so off. They sometimes need to read the room.

Thank you @Theunamedcat . I was exactly the same; within 2 weeks I saw my GP, hospital staff and had a named McMillan nurse and I am certainly not a Princess .
This is a very distasteful thread .

NewAgeNewMe · 17/04/2025 09:20

I’ve been on the two week pathway twice. It was quicker than being seen privately in my area. And within 7-10 days. Luckily for me I was fine.

CurlewKate · 17/04/2025 09:30

The most inappropriate thing I see here is the idea of promoting the Scouting movement by “wandering around Windermere” Youth organizations ought to be addressing the real issues facing young people at the moment.

Absolute bollocks. I'm a Girl Guide leader. The entire badge programme is about "addressing the real issues facing young people at the moment". And frankly, I fear it's turning out neurotic girls who all feel they need to be Greta Thunberg or they are nothing. They get plenty of that in school. Having a childhood, having fun and appreciating nature/the natural world is more likely to produce kids who turn into adults who care about the world around them, and want their own children to have the type of experiences they did. Rather than being burned out by 18 from campaigning and feeling everything is a moral struggle because they have been fed an essentially immature picture of how the world works. And frankly, many (if not most) kids already live a "political" life. They are slap bang in the middle of watching the adults around them struggle in one way or another. That frames your awareness (it did mine). Let them have 90 minutes a week of just being children.

What would you say those are and how are they not being addressed?

MrsFinkelstein · 17/04/2025 10:12

How is the Scouting (& by extension the Guiding) programme not addressing real issues by encouraging team work, accessing nature and having fun while learning?

Letting children be children while learning is surely a good thing? Why are children expected to tackle societal issues?

Scouts and Guiding have always been quite outdoorsy focused. Same with the Boys Brigade. But they also focus on teamwork, shared experiences, exploration, valuing & appreciating others and an appreciation of the natural world. They're not perfect by any means, but I think those are all values that benefit children and by extension our society. I knew when I sent my children to Beavers and Rainbows that's the experiences they would be involved in.

I rather assumed that's why Bear Grylls arrived by helicopter to our local Scouting event and then took the kids on a hike around a local park. Skiving bastard - he should have lectured them all on societal traumas.

ETA: I see @RandyRedHumpback and @utterexasperation have already made my point, should have refreshed the page

I’m surprised you feel confident coming onto this thread after all the other ones last year.

It's a new low having a go at Catherine through attacking the work of volunteers within Scouts.

What is inappropriate?

Is there something ‘complicated’ that I’m missing?

If not, then I’d say the PofW isn’t actually the one that is coming across as inappropriate here.

@IAmATorturedPoetNo- I was talking about the Scouting movement. She is only saying what she’s been told to say. The Scouts are making themselves increasingly irrelevant to today’s young people.

Well you know not everyone can be a scout ! What about those children who aren't? 😂 How must they feel? They must be weeping looking at this on TV - if they have one.

utterexasperation · 17/04/2025 11:04

That's interesting @CurlewKate. The Scouting movement are making themselves irrelevant to life today. What should the focus be on? What issues are not being addressed?

Well apparently it's irrelevant, so that's ok. Only the ones who want to do it will do it, there will be plenty of space! Those massive waiting lists for places we have to juggle and feel guilty about must be full of fake children. It's very complicated!

Why not have it here, you brought up the subject of its irrelevancy, nobody else did. The topic of the thread is stupid and people seem to be done discussing Catherine controlling the news schedules.

RandyRedHumpback · 17/04/2025 11:12

Oh thanks, from 2022:

Demand to join the Scouts has reached the highest level since World War Two, according to the organisation behind the movement.
The Scout Association said nearly 90,000 young people across the UK are on current waiting lists.
They said an "increased zeal" for the outdoors post-pandemic is behind the surge.
Meanwhile Girlguiding say they are also seeing a spike in demand, with nearly 55,000 people waiting for a place.

What has changed in 3 years @CurlewKate ? How do you account for the waiting lists for these irrelevant organisations?

That wasn't the point I was making . You said that the feature about the scouting was not addressing what the real issues facing youngsters today and I've asked you now four times what those are . I wasn't asking about the scouting movement and it's development.
