Do any of the PR experts on here think that Meredith Maines should have stepped in by now? Or is it best she stays out of it?

PR expert here. It's MM2's job to have stepped in as soon as Harry told the press early last week he was stepping down as patron, or before to suggest telling the press was a very bad idea. But we know H&M take no notice of their advisers. 'Staying out of it' would be a dereliction of duty on her part. She has a choice now. Suggest they hire a crisis communications company (if there is one prepared to work for them) and that she resign; or concentrate on As Ever and Archewell, ignoring the chaos around her.

MrsLeonFarrell · 02/04/2025 13:21

I'm aware that box boxes are more common in the US but I can't see how you can claim you are elevating them when they're the same as everyone else's.

I don't bake much but even I see a box mix as basic and time saving rather than something I would pay a premium for. On Instagram Meghan has a clip of someone talking about the flower sprinkles as if they were the most elegant thing ever and she invented them. I don't understand that tone for something I can buy on amazon.

The price will be interesting, at the moment I can't decide whether she is going for volume or cache in her sales

SatinBall · 02/04/2025 13:44

The thought of pre-packaged crepe or pancake mix makes me feel queasy.
For true French crepes, you need a proper crepe pan and a wooden spreader stick.

Other than that
5 eggs
260g flour
1/2l milk
pinch of salt
1tbsp sugar
Mix sugar, salt, milk and eggs then add flour.

Some add 50g butter but you don't really need it.

Best with lemon and sugar or French chocolate sauce and chopped bananas. 🇲🇫

No one need for a processed ready made mix. Her products probably have an enormous elevated carbon footprint.

IdaGlossop · 02/04/2025 13:59

OK. Now to something I expect to be controversial. (And It's not a derail.) I've just read this article about the launch of As Ever and With love, Meghan. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/04/02/dining/meghan-markle-kitchen-as-ever.html It's not by any means pro Meghan but it does give the impression that her latest relaunch might go the distance. If H&M are still besotted with one another, their energy will be invested in this at the moment. The Sentebale spat we and others are all talking about may be just another thing on the periphery for them. So I wish As ever well, so their coffers fill up and they have less time to do damage, cause chaos, and make themselves look foolish.

Can you imagine gifting someone the boxed up pot of jam that looks like “fancy perfume” except isn’t. You can imagine recipient thinking oooh what’s this then. And then realising it’s an over packaged pot of fucking jam. Her recycling nonsense slightly outweighed by the extra carbon footprint in the surplus box which will obviously justify a stupidly inflated price.

You can get 50g of flower sprinkles for £13.99 on Amazon. Anyone paying significantly more than that will have more money than sense.

ViolasandViolets · 02/04/2025 14:17

If the former trustees had hard evidence of SC mismanaging to the extent that it justified them all existing in a massive resignation, then it should have been out in the open by now - none has been produced.

She doesn’t need to be mismanaging, it would be sufficient that they didn’t feel able to work with her (which they clearly didn’t), or she could have proposed a direction they disagreed with. If the consultation exercise had not produced the funding they had been sold, buyers remorse if you will, they may feel she had misadvised them. Changing focus within their charitable aims is allowed and of no interest to the CC. Ditto ‘reasonable’ investment risks not paying off would not be of interest to the CC either.

I think, according to Meghan, you're supposed to keep love letters in the box. I'm not even making that up. She actually wrote that.

I spoke with two dear sisters last night. DS #1 is on a union pension and social security. Her 20+ year old car is dying. Thanks to the tariffs she's looking at an extra $10k for a USED car.

DS#2 lives outside of the US and thinks the US has gone crazy.

The USDA cuts are majorly impacting food banks and may cause the fail of small family farms.

It's getting so tough for ordinary Americans, isn't it? The situation just seems to be getting worse.

BemusedAmerican · 02/04/2025 14:22

Yes, I don't think people will spend $20 on a crepe mix when sales at the Dollar stores are going up

The thing is, with your first lot of jam, I suppose you can use your empty jar for a bud vase (if you are into that type of shabby chic thing), and your cardboard box as your time capsule or love letter box, because love letters are all the rage these days, aren't they. But I assume she wants you to buy a second and third jar, and so on and so on. What do you do with all the annoying extra packaging? It's not like it's a perfume that might last for months or even years before you buy another. You'll be getting a lot of extra boxage maybe once a month, if not more often if you are a regular spreader. What are you supposed to do with it? Keep your condoms in it? Teeth? Hair snippets? Tampax?

Surely you would only gift a As ever As if product to someone you didn't like, someone exactly like the founder of the brand, a liar, a grifter, a pushy fake friend. I would see any gift from that brand as an insult.

MagdaLenor · 02/04/2025 14:34

All of the above, perhaps @RandyRedHumpback . Who knows. It's certainly very over the top packaging for jam.

Her fans will have to if they want her to get sales. They may even have to get a Saturday job to help fund buying it all up.

One of the reasons I stopped those Gousto type things was the bloody packaging. I can imagine getting very fed up having to dispose of ridiculously superfluous packaging for a jar of spread on a regular basis, if I were a fan wanting to be loyal.

I agree, and you just can’t compete with Dolly and anything related!
It also conflicts with the concept of her Netflix With Love series as she’s making herself out to be some kind of domestic goddess. Anyone who enjoys baking, cooking and hosting doesn’t go anywhere near boxed mixes. They are for our primary school children who want to “bake” without help.

MummyJ12 · 02/04/2025 14:47

If she ends up on QVC, that will be the last scrap of dignity gone!

BemusedAmerican · 02/04/2025 14:47

You can also buy a dozen of those hexagon jars for under $15 from online sites. They are widely available for home hobbies.

I suspect they have quite a lot of loyal fans, as evidenced from these threads. Keen royalists who like to watch royals and buy their products..
