I'm with @MrsFinkelstein. I'm very interested in royal history, but was always mildly republican/disinterested in the current crop of royals. The more I listen to republicans and their depressing bellyaching bordering on sheer nastiness, and their lack of a clear alternative vision, the more I'm in favour of the status quo of constitutional monarchy, even with all its faults and the less than perfect humans at the centre of it.

Anyway, I hope hope this is a temporary blip for Charles and he'll be back on form soon. I think he's done a very decent job so far - after a lifetime of public service, charity work through the Prince's Trust and other charitable endeavours, and his innovative vision and campaigning in the fields of organic farming and environmental stewardship. And I really like Camilla too, with her work with DV charities and reading. They had enormous shoes to fill, and I think they have done so with quiet dignity, humour and just being themselves.

I absolutely agree with this post - spot on.
I hope the King stays well, and I admire his work as Head of State.

@TulipTiptoer William was in Aberdeen yesterday, to do with his work with homeless people

The Irish system - there’s your clear alternative.

And can we please stop with the environmental nonsense - the man must have one of the largest carbon footprints in the UK. Let’s not kid ourselves.

I know, makes me laugh when people trot that out.

Good to hear. I hope perhaps he can take over Charles's duties as and when, also.

he will. He's next in line

vandelle · 28/03/2025 12:44

I'm sorry to come across all cynical and negative, but their "duties" are not in any way essential for the running of the country, apart from the weekly audience and approval of legislation maybe. Would anyone notice or care if they were to take a long sabbatical from the visitations and ribbon cutting?

I hope William is reducing homelessness with his input. What does he do or contribute to this cause though, is it just his support and presence or is he hands on and gives generous personal donations? Maybe he does and wants to keep it anonymous. Same for all the charities they support, but somehow I'm a bit sceptical about that.

I meant whilst Charles is indisposed...

oh right.
I'm sure he could help with any "work" that needs doing but I assume he can't be arsed.

Mightymoog · 28/03/2025 11:46

yes but I can't see the relevance
That thread went bonkers with all sorts of wild speculation.
Are you saying the same is happening here?
Are there posts guessing he's been killed/ beaten by his wife/ had plastic surgery?
I don't get what you're trying to say

Is it “usual/normal” to be still having treatment over a year on from its start?
I’m concerned for him as I really do like and admire him.

Treatment can be ongoing for years.

I can't see it either, it's not just you. I asked what Kate had to do with this earlier.on

Somehow I cannot imagine the UK would end up with the quality of President that the Republic of Ireland has had. The thought of President Blair or President Johnson as figureheads for the ceremonial head of state is an awful one.

Former PMs and Leaders of the Opposition could be barred as candidates

Corinthiana · 28/03/2025 16:09

President Liz Truss.

President Liz Truss.

Why do people come up with such utter shite? Truss wasn’t even elected as prime minister, there’s no fucking way she’d be elected as president FFS. 🙄

Dont forget we could have had Andrew as King if anything happened to Charles and he didn’t have kids! I mean, it’s a fucking crap argument but if royalists can get away with the tiresome trotting out of stupid names with the word president attached then I’ll reciprocate with an equally asinine response 🙄.
