Yeah, tough crowd! 😄 Now I want to watch Nighty Night again... Also, do you remember her and Rob Brydon in Human Remains? Masterclass!

ooh, haven't seen Human Remains.
Will give it a go

Well that's because most people can move on after 30 years, look back and realise none of them were perfect (least of all serial cheat and almost stalker, Diana) and see that their affectionate relationship has withstood the years and intense public scrutiny and they are very good for one another. And they are both decent and uncomplaining public servants. That's their own PR through who they are and what they do, I don't think it needs spinning particularly. I find it more surprising that some people haven't been able to move on since 1997.

vandelle · 28/03/2025 09:39

Love 'em or hate 'em, they all know there is no such thing as bad publicity.

Only one thing worse than being talked about, that's not being talked about.

How do you know they are uncomplaining servants?
They may have a right moan and bitch every night to each other.
He comes across as stroppy in public so i can't imagine he's all sweetness and light behind closed doors

I think the coverage of a couple of days of Charles at home by the BBC is a joke. On and on with journos stationed outside Clarence House. I presume they had to say something, as a day or two of engagements have been cancelled, so people would know something was up. One announcement and one article on BBC news web would surely be enough.

I do wonder why his son could not step in for him. Of course we have no idea if William has planned engagements... but it would have shown some unity and support I feel.

I hope Charles goes on and on, I have to say he looks pretty robust, I want him to have longer at this and I'm not particularly looking forward to W taking over. Just my opinion.

glitterturd · 28/03/2025 09:46

It's obvious how this will go. Posters had a trial run with Catherine - she's dead, she's had an affair, she's had a BB, William has beaten her to death, she's taking time out before she leaves with the children, she's lucky to have cancer and get treatment, blah blah. Same old speculative shite.

Sparklybutold · 28/03/2025 09:46

He's a 70 year old man who has received the best of care. I'm not interested. It amazes me that people actually care at all when there are literally thousands of people in the UK waiting for care - from initial diagnosis all the way through to post care. A poster mentioned fawning - this is absolutely the right word.

Because we don't know Walter in Wigan, but we know Charles because he's the Head of State. It's natural to have more of an interest.

It's less than the Pope - he's been on his last legs for week. He's going , no he's not, he's back, he's going . That's how it goes with notable people in positions of authority.

This is a couple of days of coverage because he cancelled a day or two engagements. Apparently Italy is still going ahead, no idea why they have to stalk Clarence House and go on and on about it.

'Uncomplaining'? What's to complain about?! 'Damn this obscene level of wealth and privilege, I'd give it all up tomorrow but I have to think of the little people...'.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 28/03/2025 09:51

It'll probably be a modest family only affair paid for by the billionaire family themselves

I doubt it, @Mightymoog; whether we each like it or not he IS the Head of State and a state funeral's inevitable - though I do hope they'll be sensitive around the costs if it turns out to be a very short reign

At his age Charles was always going to be a kind of "placemarker", and now with his health issues they'll never be able to make much of what he did in his current job, so personally I'm expecting a lot to be couched as gentle regret that he didn't have time to do more

well his life is sometimes marred by having a non functioning pen so I can see it must be difficult for him.

Sigh. Do you understand the difference in being uncomplaining about the job he was born into and which he has done - very well - since he was a young man and will do until he dies; and complaining about a pen not working (the day after his beloved mother had died and he was thrust into the role of king, with a load of ceremonies to perform during his grief and stress)? The difference between being the gracious host/attendee/diplomat he needs to be publicly (which he again does very well, his stroppy moments, as you all them, are pretty rare compared to his smily ones) and whatever he might say privately (everyone who is good at and respected in their job will have a moan about some aspect of it in private - because we are all humans) Seriously.

I always do a double take when anyone mentions the Queen, thinking but she is dead! Still can’t get my head around a King and Prince of Wales is still Charles. I’m obviously not very good with change 😂

Yeah, I think we might be the same person! Mind you my head has never really left the 90s anyway (and if I hear snippets of the news mentioning The Queen, Labour government and Oasis playing it just reinforces it 😂).

Sigh,
how was he "thrust" into a role he'd been supposedly preparing for all his life?

CathyorClaire · 28/03/2025 10:33

Mightymoog · 28/03/2025 08:31

he's not boosted my morale 😁

He boosted mine with his stinking bloody pens.

Back O/T.

I've said before I think Charles may be more ill than we're being led to believe. This announcement seems to back my theory up.

glitterturd · 28/03/2025 10:34

Why don't some of you contact that Spanish reporter who had the scoop on Catherine last year?

???
Sorry, what do you mean?

TulipTiptoer · 28/03/2025 10:45

What has Kate got to do with an announcement about Charles taking a couple of days out for health reasons?
I'm confused with this thread!

vandelle · 28/03/2025 10:46

In my own mind I'm thinking, gosh with all that money you'd think he'd retire/abdicate and enjoy his elder years especially since he now has poor health. I don't think Camilla is in full fettle either, and both of them are getting on a bit. I'm 67 so I'm in the waiting room myself!

But some people like to be occupied to take their minds off things. However, I know which one I'd do and wouldn't be cutting ribbons or travelling for work either!

yes but I can't see the relevance
That thread went bonkers with all sorts of wild speculation.
Are you saying the same is happening here?
Are there posts guessing he's been killed/ beaten by his wife/ had plastic surgery?
I don't get what you're trying to say

Mightymoog · 28/03/2025 11:51

And I don't remember who the Spanish repoirter was or what her "scoop" was. Sorry
