Chandauka's bio is as impressive as it is intriguing. She was educated in the UK and the States, worked in us corporate finance and currently is head of intelligence and risk management at Meta.

I had imagined she was based in Africa. Maybe she is but it must be a hard gig if so.

First associated with the charity in 2008 when she was shortlisted for various legal prizes. MBE 2021. Honorary degree from University of Coventry 2023.

The other issue is that, as much as anyone might decry white saviourism, the charity money needs to come from Western counties. It can't realistically be raised locally.

That is an absolutely shocking statement.

Because some people just can’t help themselves. It’s who they are.

This is not true anymore!
there are many wealthy, successful people of colour in that country.

I'm from Lesotho. In general it is desperately poor. And you don't need to say "people of colour", it's a black country.

There also isn't the same tradition of charitable donations. Not saying people are not charitable where they can be, but it will be direct.

You live with someone, I am someone. This wasn't the 80s it's racist language and should never be reduced to unconscious bias because it gave Harry a free pass.

Do you think you’re the only one who’s experienced racism in life? Do you really think a person can be married to a person of colour and not experience racism - especially if they’ve lived in that persons country for almost 50 years as a non brown person.

Cant you see that you’re blinded by your tunnel vision, and that your lack of ability to think outside of your very narrow mind is not a good look.

Im not engaging with you anymore. It’s a waste of time.

I am from Lesotho. It can't be raised locally because it is one of the poorest countries in the world.

You know why Saving Tiny Lives exists, for instance? Because for a big percentage of women, if they can't breastfeed, their baby will die. End of story. That level of poverty.
Many babies born never see their first birthday.

its about time people realised their tv orientated image of Africa is nowhere close to the truth, it’s a huge and varied place with prosperous areas as well as poorer ones.

China is a huge investor and benefactor in the region.

So much said by people who have no idea of the true reason for him to leave and the whole board of trustees !! Once again it’s used as a stick to discredit Harry .Can we really believe anything the DM prints?

It’s in the Times as well. I can share the article if you’d like?

This is the second thread you’ve started that I’ve joined. And I’m sorry you’re still smarting after my comments on one of your previous posts. Can I suggest you just ignore me going forward because regardless of whose name is at the top of a post if they’re being vile or beyond the pale I’ll pass comment.

As I said Africa is an enormous continent, there are prosperous places and poor places!
you think fund raising and charity is something only the western world does and that poc people are less charitable?
a sad view of your own people .

Exactly, it's an enormous continent. Would you expect say a UK charity to target Germany when raising money? Or, assuming you're British, would you consider Lithuanians as "your own people"?

If you wouldn't lump Europeans together like that, why do it to Africans?

Markle spent several years in the RF. Yet the only complaint of racism she could rustle up was a reported conversation that she never heard.

I'm sure it Philip or Andrew were racist as you imply we'd have heard something a bit more substantial. The fact that she never reported that she heard or witnessed any racism other than that convo seems to indicate that the RF is actually not a racist family.

Ermmm surely you've heard all the things Prince Phillip has said, many of them not great but given this was in public I can't imagine the shite he would come out with being closed doors.
A couple of examples" If you stay here much longer you will all be slitty-eyed," said to British exchange students living in Xian."You managed not to get eaten then?" the Prince asked a British student who had been trekking in Papua New Guinea, in 199.
. "Do you still throw spears at each other?" he asked a group of Indigenous Australians in 2002, while on a visit to Australia with the Queen.

Prince Andrew used the actual N word at an event. Alongside a few other lovely moments.

Why people defend these embarrassments is beyond me.

You've referred to 2 members of 1 family and there’s a big difference between that and a whole family being racist.

Beyond the pale - there it is again. I've learnt on here that that phrase is very insulting and racist to certain people. I believe there is a whole thread on site stuff about it. It's a minefield isn't it?

Otherwise, feel free to ignore this thread.

The numbers are there for you to see now on their website (annual report). The fundraising events (predominantly the polo) raised 1.5m in 2023 and they spent around 350k on it, which included market value of gifts in kind (eg prizes and hospitality donated by sponsors). As I said upthread, that sort of margin in charity events is exceptionally good. The rest is largely institutional funding. Reserves are low side of normal. Honestly, the finances don't throw up any red flags.

It seems the board coup is not about that but about the strategic direction, and in particular whether to manage/ direct the charity from South Africa rather than it being HQ'd in London as it has been previously.

I think this is likely the crux of it from what I have read on the matter.
I have found your posts to have been really helpful and informative, thanks for the insight.

I’m certainly no expert on such matters but there must be something really wrong and of concern if the high court and charity commission have taken the steps they have? As my granny always said “It’ll all come out in the wash!”

BemusedAmerican · 26/03/2025 15:07

So, I looked up the only male new trustee for Sentebale. He is Iain Rawlinson and he has a really impressive range of experience. It looks like a good choice on Dr. Sophie's part. I've never met him, just going by this:

The photo matches the one someone posted earlier of the new trustees so it's really him.

Yes, by locally I meant Lesotho.

No idea at all what you are trying to say ??? Either you are targeting western countries for charity or you aren’t?
im also assuming that as you say you are from that country , that you would call them your people?
however you seem to be twisting and trying to imply something!
