Prince Harry first heard of Queen Elizabeth's death from BBC website - BBC News

In Prince Harry's account, he says his father told him not to bring Meghan with explanations that "didn't make any sense, and actually they were disrespectful. I didn't tolerate it".
"Don't even think about speaking about my wife like that," Prince Harry recalls saying to his father.
"Regretful, he stammered that he simply didn't want it to fill up with people. Nobody's wife was going, not even Kate, he told me, so Meg shouldn't either.
"'Then you should have started with that," says Prince Harry's recollection.

"he says his father told him not to bring Meghan with explanations that "didn't make any sense, and actually they were disrespectful. I didn't tolerate it".

This is before he says Kate isn't going either. So what would have been the disrespectful bit? What did KC say about M that provoked H to say "don't ever speak about my wife like that" ?

"Dear boy, sadly Meghan does have a tendency to steal the spotlight somewhat..."

"Dear boy, I don't think we can quite manage the disruption Meghan tends to bring along with her, and there'll be an awful lot to do..."

"Dear boy, we simply won't have the capacity to manage the kerfuffle that would likely ensue..."

"Dear boy, you can understand that certain members of the family might worry that at this most intimate of moments they would have to police themselves for fear that anything said within Meghan's presence might not stay private..."

Any number of things, really.

She slagged us off and falsely accused us of racism, no she's not welcome.

I didn't watch their Netflix documentary nor read the book. But I am interested to know what he said about this in the book. Does he actually say he argued with KC over the phone at the time and confirm that Meghan wanted to go with him?

I got gifted it from someone who I’m pretty sure hates me - I can’t flog it on Vinted either though I have tried 🤣 I’ll ratch it out and take a look later

BemusedAmerican · 13/03/2025 13:09

its enlightening to re read the extract from Spare.

:"He [Charles] said I was welcome at Balmoral, but he didn’t want… her. He started to lay out his reason, which was nonsensical, and disrespectful, and I wasn’t having it."

"Don’t ever speak about my wife that way."

"He stammered, apologetic, saying he simply didn’t want a lot of people around.
No other wives were coming, Kate wasn’t coming, he said, therefore Meg shouldn’t. Then that’s all you needed to say."."

Kate wasn’t coming .... Then that’s all you needed to say."

So it WAS all about having the same as Kate. Rather than Meghan wanting to see the Queen or supporting her husband. The jealousy is off the scale.

i would read Spare but whilst I don’t mind spending a couple of hours “hate watching” a show, my reading time is too precious

Isn’t it convenient that he never shares exactly what others say. Like when in the NF show he says he’s had a text from his brother and shows Meghan and she says “Wow!” But they never shares exactly it with the camera.

Would looove to know what was said!

Probably “No she can’t be there she upset your Granny when Grandad was dying” or something entirely reasonable

Treeleaf11 · 13/03/2025 13:14

Only 2 of her 8 grandchildren went (wasnt Louise at St andrews Uni at the time) why should M have gone? Harry was was already being favoured over the others.

@Treeleaf11

Thank you 😀

He is such a loser.
His arguing made the others late for the trip up to Balmoral. then he didn't even stay! Left early the next morning, so really he wasn't even there to support his father. Did he say anything in the book as to why he left so soon?

FromTheOfficeOfJammyTodger · 13/03/2025 13:16

Everything comes back to Catherine. MM is basically a stalker.

In 2025, MM claims to have wanted to eat nothing but Indian food during her pregnancies. I wonder who first said that in 2017? 🤔

Dear boy, Granny can’t abide wanky Californian world salad and as a woman of 96 who’s worked every day of her life in a job she never asked for, I don’t want her final words to hear to be “You know, there’s something so profoundly becoming about spirituality, and passing on the legacy of your truth and valour, it is the very definition of showing up. I once worked with the most adorable Anglo Saxon Hispanic Native American family and the amazing grandfather said to me: ‘Meghan: set your spirit free’. And he’s SO RIGHT. We can all use a bit of that wisdom and in just so grateful and I appreciate you” as she paws her hands on Granny’s upper arm

I would think that Meghan’s actual motive in wanting to be there would have to have been called in to question. It was sheer coincidence that she and Harry were in the UK when the late Queen died, and Meghan wasn’t particularly close to her. It had to be all about the optics and being “equal” to William and Catherine. Which is why Harry backed down when told Catherine was not going. I agree with pp who said that Catherine agreed not to go just for this reason. I also believe that originally, William was only going in his role as counsellor of State so there would have been no need for wives to attend. Obviously this changed as the situation deteriorated

I don't believe that Meghan was a factor in Catherine's decision. The children were on day 2 of a brand new school. From footage they seemed very fond of their grandmother and I believe Catherine wanted to be at home to explain what had happened and support them as they grieved. William had to go because he was the heir, news reports said that he and Charles ate dinner separately from the rest of the family as they had lots to discuss. William was needed by the King, Catherine by her children, neither had time or energy to consider their estranged SIL.

That is true. I suppose it’s more the fact that the King had to let it be known to Harry that Catherine wasn’t coming to get Harry to shut up that made me wonder if she had intended to go 🤷‍♀️

MrsLeonFarrell · 13/03/2025 13:38

Possibly but I think Harry's need for Meghan to do exactly what Catherine did was a larger factor. The King used that!

I occasionally watch Martin decoder on various matters. He strips modern politics, media and celebrities of their various vanities and lies.

Here’s his YouTube video on the Drew Barrymore interview. He really exposes the corruption and vanity of Hollywood, Netflix and all the celebrities who constantly preen and flaunt themselves at us. The early part of the Barrymore interview I hadn’t seen before, and it is very bizarre.

V

his delivery style is annoying but it was worth watching just for the clip at 6.30 about her being with world leaders and how she actually believes that is where she belongs. Really Meghan, really

I think that if Meghan had been allowed to go and Catherine hadn’t gone anyway, Meghan would have gone. Catherine not going was the only thing that made Harry back down, but if Meghan had been allowed to go neither she nor Harry would have passed up the opportunity to show they were “more important”, whatever reason was given for Catherine not going. So I do t think that it was a need for Meghan to do exactly the same as Catherine, more a need to not be seen as lesser

Yes your last sentence is a better way of putting it. Harry needs Meghan to never been seen as lesser. Which is unfortunate as they are part of a family with a clear hierarchy.

BemusedAmerican · 13/03/2025 13:59

I know this is a bit off topic but I just watched JillionBillion's parody of WLM. She goes to town with the edible flowers. If you haven't seen it, watch it. You will laugh yourself sick.

I couldn't sit through all of that, and haven't seen WLM or the Drew interview, but I did just watch enough of this to see Meghan refer to Harry as "H" repeatedly. I'm actually shocked by that. Who goes on TV and refers to their husband by their initial and/or their private term of endearment? It was so awkward, too. The name is easier to say in a sentence than "H", repeatedly.

And, given how much she's said about his family over the years, I am willing to bet that referring to him as "H" is to put him on an even lesser footing than his relatives who she has always referred to as "his grandmother", "his father", "Kate", "your brother", "Fergie", never by their actual names or their titles (such as the one she introduces herself with). It's always been done to ram home that she's one of them (inside the royal family), and that they only matter as relatives of hers rather than as individuals in their own right.

And now she wants to be known as Meghan Sussex!

Seeing her now, after this many years of marriage and on national TV, referring to her husband as "H" is very, very creepy. It's very diminishing. I big my husband up in public, I don't reduce him to the role that he plays in my life with nary a name. It really is all about her. Diana said she thought there were three people in her marriage. I wonder if Harry feels there's only one person in his marriage!
