I’m OK with the sun tea, it’s a childhood memory. American children can’t be expected to know how to make the perfect cup of tea. (Hint: It doesn’t involve tea bags).

Ohpleeeease · 06/03/2025 19:08

I feel like a proper conspiracy theorist here but I see this as the rehabilitation of Meghan Markle. Thanks to this atrocious offering she’s no longer being seen as an angry difficult bully, but as an airy-fairy incompetent. Don’t be fooled. The same person is in there.

@MissRoseDurward The answer to the tea question is in Meghan's second newsletter, 'Finding the magic in the moment'.

This is not tea as you or I would understand it. It is a new genre of tea. It is sun tea. 'Hibiscus tea that reminds me of the sun tea I made in my childhood, placing a teabag into a mason jar of water and watching it change color as it steeped in the warmth of the sun'.

On the previous thread I said she was the new Hyacinth Bucket but now after reading more of her drivel I think she is also Parker (Alec Baldwin) from Friends! Phoebe speaks for us all I reckon.

We may be laughing at her now but we all know what a deeply unpleasant bully she is in reality.

Ohpleeeease · 06/03/2025 19:39

Yes we do, and it’s important that doesn’t get forgotten. Regular posters on these threads have good memories thankfully, the wider public I’m less confident about.

BasiliskStare · 06/03/2025 19:42

I have a question - where do you find out which shows are in the Netflix top 10. I'm interested to see where WLM is but just more generally how this works I have realised from these threads how woeful I am at knowing how a lot of stuff works. 😊 I assume if the As ever line is to take off then she will need to be constantly in the top 10 to show that enough people are watching and so increasing her "footfall" - at least in the medium term until she can get "proper" shops to stock - not just the the netflix shops.

Sparklyish · 06/03/2025 19:54

First time poster (but long time lurker) so I hope this is okay to post? Just been scrolling through my Instagram and this have seen
Michael Pavano (@michaelpavano) post a spoof video of the show. If you're on Instagram or TikTok it may be worth a watch. I haven't watched the series but did find the reel quite funny.

Edited to take out the link as I wasn't sure if it showed my account.

It's certainly a distinct possibility.

Surely those that have been bullied will speak up at some point?

From a quick google search: "Jam" can't be called jam when it doesn't meet the legal definition of jam, which typically means it contains too little fruit, has large chunks of fruit making it more like a preserve, or includes added ingredients like nuts or large pieces of fruit peel that would classify it as a conserve, rather than a pure jam.

It's not been labelled a preserve or conserve so it must be because it doesn't contain enough fruit.

Sounds like spread is high in sugar low in fruit? Sounds revolting

jeffgoldblum · 06/03/2025 20:03

Hopefully @User14March but sadly Harry and Meghan like to get all their underlings to sign ndas!
So it will be awhile!

I think her name is whatever she decides it is at that time, the factual or legal nature wouldn't factor. Presumably she was never called Meghan until adulthood.

Tom Bower wrote about the name change in his book.

Apparently Doria wanted Rachel, Thomas wanted Meghan so she was called Rachel Meghan, but from a few days old she was called Meghan so it really has been her name her whole life.

I believe it's not uncommon for Americans to go by their second name rather than their first.

I want royalties if she makes it.

Coronation Chicken?

EsmaCannonball · 06/03/2025 20:06

Maybe when she (allegedly) threw tea at an underling in Australia it was tea that had been gently warmed by the sun and was, therefore, not scalding hot. See, she's not a monster.

Didn't you ask the same thing yesterday? Apologies if it wasn't you. It's not about simply speaking out and having your 5 minutes of noble victimhood, no matter how truthful this is. You have to think about your reputation in an industry where future employers expect you to be tough, don't want to employ potential trouble makers or "thin skulls" and don't want to employ people with a history of whistleblowing.

Plus anyone putting their real name against a complaint or negative comment about Markle will get absolutely destroyed by her rabid Sussex Squad fans.

And finally, if you have suffered a real trauma - as the Hollywood Reporter seemed to be implying, with employees going for therapy - perhaps you just want to put the whole thing behind you.

SpreadingJammyTodgerLove · 06/03/2025 20:09

BTW @User14March , were you able to find the Harry interview regarding abuse the RF allegedly committed against H&M? You will have seen upthread that I watched Colbert, and couldn't see any reference to this.

And according to Tom Bower when she was at university she started calling herself Rachel ( she was a big fan of Friends apparently).

I took one for the team and watched some episodes (using Tor and one of my 'naughty' sites as I don't want to add to her viewing figures on Netflix) and my overall impressions are as follows:

  1. The entire series has a strangely defensive tone to it, with a faint but distinct underlay of mild aggression. Meghan appears to be using the series to hit back at common criticisms of her which random people (like us) make on the internet. They said I'm a bully? Well, here's some footage of me giving snacks to the camera crew! They said I've isolated Harry? No, look at all these lovely employees friends I have around me! They said I'm cold and toxic? INCORRECT - I show my love by labelling pretzels, and look, here's one of my employees best friends who'll spontaneously say how loving I am! They said I'm joyless? Screw you, here's some footage of my breaking out into a spontaneous jig on a walk! That's joyful! Isn't it? ISN'T IT??? Say it is or I'll give you one of my evil looks. BE JOYFUL, BITCH, OR ELSE!!! As I've said before, the worst trap any influencer can fall into is to allow their output to be controlled by a desire to hit back at their detractors. It's generally a death knell for an influencer's career and it's very jarring to see Meg falling into it at the start of her influencing career.
  2. It's all so STIFF and AWKWARD! Nigella, Nadiya, Martha and any other lifestyle guru I could name, are successful because they have an easy charisma and charm on-camera. I want to make Nigella's Slut Spaghetti, not because pasta puttanesca is especially unusual or challenging as a dish, but because Nigella makes it look so fun, so laid back, so wink wink mildly naughty, that I want to try it too. It looks like FUN. Meghan tries very, very hard to bring the same sense of fun and feminine sexuality to the series, but because she's fundamentally lacking in charisma, it's all very stiff, awkward and faintly embarrassing, like watching a desperately out-of-his-depth teenager struggling through a speech on high school awards night. It's mildly stressful to watch, and cringey, when it should be fun and flirtatious. There's nothing Meg can do about this to be fair to her. Charisma is a weird thing. Everyone can recognise it, and a person either has it or they don't.
  3. It's beautifully shot and photographed. That special soft yet brilliant quality of SoCal sunlight, like honey, is perfectly captured, so props to the Director of Photography (didn't note who it was).
  4. The brand confusion is strong throughout. It's a lifestyle show which presents us with a lifestyle which only the 0.0000001% can enjoy. But at the same time, it's not because the 0.0000001% don't make their own labels or cook their own pasta or decorate their own parties. They hire people to do that, as Kaling said. And SoCal royalty would definitely dismiss a balloon sculpture as horrible passe. So is it the 0.000001% telling the 99.99999% how to do basic bitch midwest mom things? And if so, isn't that....a bit cruel and patronising? Look at me, I'm so rich, but I like pretzels like you little people. And here I am, from the goodness of my heart, to show you how to decant pretzels from one plastic bag to another!
  5. And speaking of plastic bags...the climate crisis is real. As all the citizens of California sadly have good reason to know. As does Meghan because she and Harry gave a speech in 2019 specifically urging hoi polloi to fly less, use less plastic and generally waste less. So why is she starring in a show which centres and fetishizes the wasteful, the gaudy and the disposable? Plastic bags. Plastic balloons. Plastic party favours. Plastic everything.

TLDR: WLM is beautifully shot and presented but there ain't much going on under the bonnet.

A lot of people seem to have picked up on a dark, passive aggressive anger she has going on beneath the surface. I felt like while filming she was all the time pre-empting and imagining a critical and unimpressed audience and was already feeling fairly enraged and defensive about it. I wonder why on earth she's continuing to flog this very dead horse of her fame/career/reputation she could just stick two fingers up and enjoy her family and staggering amount of millions. I don't think she is wired up pretty differently to most people, likely with an extreme personality disorder thrown in to the mix and l so I guess she will continue to be unfathomable to an extent, while simultaneously being so very predictable because of her shallow, vapid, one-dimensional character.

ThePoshUns · 06/03/2025 20:14

It's ironic she making 'spread' as according to Bower that's how she started her career.

I've always wondered why she didn't use Rachel Meghan Markle or Meghan Rachel Markle as her professional name. I've always liked names like Sarah Jessica Parker, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Evan Rachel Wood, Mary Louise Parker etc. Something quite cool about them - dare I say classy and elevated! Don't ask me why!

You called?? I don't like to use my regal title on here but it seems you may have outed me....

Re the TV show – yes, the photography was great and the scenery was beautiful.

But when it came to the content I got a weird feeling that I was watching a televised version of Readers' Tips from Take A Break Magazine.
