Oh poor old Sophie, she was beautiful but that dress really didn't fit. That and the truly horrible tiara. She deserved better!

The dress looked like she'd lost a lot of weight in the last week which halogens with many brides. That tiara was appalling and bless her she still wears it. Then there was the jewellery Edward designed ...

I love that podcast, off to have a listen!

It's worth a listen, very even handed i thought.

MissRoseDurward · 25/02/2025 20:08

Regarding tights and knickers wasn't there an incident where Lady Louise's dress flew up and revealed her knickers?

Yes, I think it was Eugenie's wedding. It was quite windy. The dress fabric was very light and she had no lining or underslip. Mortifying for a teenage girl.

MaturingCheeseball · 25/02/2025 19:32

@BasiliskStare - gulp, I liked her dress too - probably because it was very similar to mine from 1996. It did make her look a bit no-waisted though. In 1996 I had a wasp waist (2025 a big bumblebee waist ☹️ )

I remember reading that Meghan hadn’t even wanted Charlotte as a bridesmaid, but was “ordered” to include her. Once relations had soured between Meghan and Kate I expect every interaction was fraught. I wouldn’t like to annoy Meghan - scary!

From what i remember Meghan didn’t want George or Charlotte but the late Queen insisted as it would look strange if they weren’t included .,

It's worth a listen, very even handed i thought.

They think there’s a good chance it will be successful/popular even if not hugely, conventionally loved. Def even handed, yes.

They also said they’d generated millions more than I thought. I am confused as to how much money they need to maintain the life he/she wants.

It's really interesting, both of them have so much knowledge and I learn things each week.

StartupRepair · 25/02/2025 20:41

I recall reading that while dating Harry Meghan said to one of his team 'We both know I'm going to be your boss in a few months.' The power absolutely went to her head.

BasiliskStare · 25/02/2025 20:47

@MissFenellaPrism - Re podcast - I'll try my best to give the gist - but it is from memory - Recollections may vary 😊

Excuse the eexcrable typing / grammar - rattling it out quickly - @MrsLeonFarrell do say if you listen and I've got this wrong.

I hope it's OK to transcribe - I'll delete if not.

They mentioned the recent Instagram post where Meghan said she was so excited about As ever and Love Meghan - RO said he doesn't like this because being excited should come over from your natural actions / voice. So he said - You're so excited - Tell your face , love. He also said Creating joy in every minute - that's too much joy.

Re Netflix - obviously the docuseries - huge ratings but - after that their projects have flopped. He said Netflix are after global ratings and with this sort of contract you do what has made them sign up - then you do what you want to do and if no good you end up doing what you are told.

He said he didn't blame them for taking the $100m deal but if he were NF he wouldn't have offered that.

If this took off and she could be a Martha Stewart there is an absolute fortune to be made.

MH mentioned hate watching - RO aid if she gets 10 series that's not a hate watch - more on that later.

MH - this is just a bit more of that farm to table bullshit - very trad wife.

Apparently $ for $ the Random house / Spare deal was a lot more lucrative than the NF deal

MH thought they had been doing programmes they thought people ought to watch rather than what they want to watch. re WLM she said they can't really do the extended universe thing like the Kardashians because they have cut so many people off.

RO said Goop was the lodestar of celebrity brands and MM wants to be a millennial Martha / Goop.
MH said Goop came across as genuinely reflecting GP's personality but it seems to be trailing a bit. Much talk of IPOs but nothing happened and 3 rounds of layoffs last year.

RO lot of brands / lifestyle things come from the ground up via SM & people find someone they like / identify with and keep with them but not how NF work - their money is front loaded - they can't wait for that. This feels like a social media project. He wondered if when she gets her friends round she may discuss things she says are important to her over dinner - that might be interesting. MH thought she would be too conservative for that. MH thought this was the last throw of the dice for NF

MH - Variety did some polling in 2023 and "hate watch " dramas got really high viewing - often more than things people like . So apparently Emily in Paris is the most hate watched but repeated series . She did say people might secretly love it but don't want to admit it.

RO - surely said people might hate watch the 1st episode but not a whole series. MH - if something is massively publicised and controversial people will want to have an opinion and have a conversation about it , even if that is a negative conversation so not necessarily just one episode.

RO - MM has been accused of copying but he said there are practically no original ideas - it's how you package your unoriginality. & a person cooking and having guests has been done over again - so he didn't much truck to the copying Emma Weymouth - which he has watched and quite likes .

MH thought the copying of the Porreres and the hoo ha with that was bullshit - she thinks a news editor will have got wind and sent someone to find the mayor and make her say something.

There are some amusing bits I've left out but I think that is the gist

MrsLeonFarrell · 25/02/2025 20:57

Good summary @BasiliskStare .

My overall impression was that they had no truck with accusations of copying because everything is copying something else. It was really clear that Richard Osmsn thought Netflix were insane for offering them the amount of money they did. They are also going to watch it which will be interesting.

CathyorClaire · 25/02/2025 21:01

We’re creating multidimensional, interesting, kind, creative people. That’s who our kids are.

Didn't Harold yap this when his kids were barely more than foeti miniscule?

Am I the only one hoping to revisit this in 15-20 year's time?

MissFenellaPrism · 25/02/2025 21:04

Thank you, @BasiliskStare ! Really interesting. I thought RO in particular would be very fair and supportive of MM, but it's a saturated market.

Oh poor old Sophie, she was beautiful but that dress really didn't fit. That and the truly horrible tiara. She deserved better!

Edward also presented her with a chunky necklace he had designed himself so she had to wear that as well. She looked lovely on the day but not because of what she had on. Devotion to duty in so many ways!

MissFenellaPrism · 25/02/2025 21:13

Poor Sophie! I'm pleased to see she's been given a couple of better tiaras now, but that wedding one wasn't great. Can you imagine if that was the one Meghan was given?! 😱

User14March · 25/02/2025 21:15

@BasiliskStare great summary.

Agree, excellent summary.

Richard Osman often talks about entertainment being about reinventing the wheel and that there are no original ideas. He is right in the main, but the reason I believe he has been so successful is because his ideas are original. I had no idea that Goop had never made a profit, but I assume that's for tax reasons. The rounds of lay offs sounded like more of an issue.

I thought Marina's point about hate watching was interesting, but I am sceptical it has that much reach. I would agree that people might tune in for 1 episode, but who would watch the whole thing? Unless people use it as a way to go to sleep? NF is set up for binging so it is conceivable that someone could fall asleep and complete WLM without watching it.

Overall, I felt it was a fair podcast and will be interesting to see when they watch it, how they feel.

They make comments like that in all earnestness and sincerity when their children are young. By middle school they've usually been chastened..

Even worse when MM was being interviewed recently by Jane Pauley wistfully crowing about how 'amazing' her children were whilst sat next to a couple who had lost their child to suicide.....vulgar & crass.

User14March · 25/02/2025 21:55

V Beckham launched in 2008 & only profitable now, hadn’t realised same year as Goop.

Rhaidimiddim · 25/02/2025 19:34

Or said anything incontrovertibly racist.
I can't believe that, for the 18 months M was a working royal, she never heard a single, irrefutably racist remark from.any of them.

Especially Harry - "Here's my rg-hed p*ki mate" "Dont worry she's not black"

Although, whether M likes it or not, at least George and Charlotte are her kids cousins and still part of her life, to an extent. Unlike her matron of honour, Jessica Mulroney and her kids, who she has now excised from her life, like so many others before!

itsjustthewayitwas · 25/02/2025 22:14

Imagine the utter insensitivity of making it known you don’t want your husbands brothers children to be part of your wedding. No wonder Catherine was upset.

I don't know a huge amount about it, but I believe the profitable bit is her cosmetics line.

Marina's take on Meghan making money is that she should launch a celeb perfume. Apparently that's a good way of making money. As ever, Meghan or with love, Meghan perfume could do quite well. Random kitchen ware, I don't think is goer, rather like jam.

And what about the other two little girls who were bridesmaids? The ones who were said to be MM's goddaughters? And their mum, MM's old friend Benita - lawyer, IP and brand launch specialist? She's not been heard of again since the wedding. Meghan could really do with her help now.

Vespanest · 25/02/2025 22:28

I'm not sure about the hate watching, there will be some but its not comparable to a series with a plot. I know I'm going to see most of the good, bad and ugly of the show without ever having to turn Netflix on. In the same way I've seen a lot of the instagram without touching the app. I'm hopeful that either the show or the merch is successful as they do need a longterm plan but im not sure if time is on their side.
