I noticed the old thread is almost full so thought we could start a new one to carry on the discussion about the rebrand and merching.

Are you an ‘As Ever’ or ‘Whatever’?

Agree @IcedPurple but even with the upcoming show, it's Meghan in a hired kitchen. The interest is more in her life that her, imo. I would be more interested if it was her Cali kitchen, I would have been really interested if it had been a royal kitchen and garden.

If she didn’t want to use her actual kitchen, she could have built a studio kitchen for filming purposes. I would have watched if it was her kitchen and gardens - I find that more interesting than the actual cooking and recipes

For some reason makes me think of this 😂

😳

Sadly it apears to be true!!!
And I find it very interesting that all these little titbits are coming out now!!!🤔

It appears that the hateful British press had quite a lot of information on Meghan that they sat on!

What next...?

You didn't!!!
You are definitely braver than me!! 🤣

DuchessDissasster · 20/02/2025 11:02

Just realised this book cover image may not clear. It's a woman sitting naked in front of an open fridge with her fingers in her mouth smiling coyly 😂. It's called Fork me Spoon Me by Amy Reiley.

I think Netflix execs are shrewder than that tbh.

The contract headline total was big and flashy, but it will have placed the production costs on Archewell, and on milestone delivery of content, potentially also on condition of performance of that content.

The only hit was their interview series.

Let's say of the fabled 100 million:

20m for the interviews, less costs, full whack for new subscribers. Let's say it hit all targets, they got that, and spent 3m on production costs.

Pearl - 2m. Oops, you've done your first cut and we don't like it, here's the milestone 250k payment.

Polo - 5m. Ok, we'll take that for 2m completed. Oops, no new subscribers though. No bonus. 1m spent on production costs.

Made up figures, but I sincerely doubt Netflix have lost on this. They're renowned for being ruthless with contract performance.

Didn't NF tell someone at Vanity Fair that the deal was not for the sums rumoured?

I agree with you that they are very hard nosed and there will have been a ton of conditions attached to the contract. To listen to sum, you would think that a vast sum of money plopped into the Sussex account the day they signed the deal. It doesn't quite work that way.

Amusing article in the Guardian on the As Ever rebrand. The bit about Harry’s voice appearing momentarily in the video is spot on!

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/feb/19/meghan-markle-rebrand-as-ever-poshness

"Which brings us to the duchess’s understanding of audience. Discounting the forfeiture of sympathy that comes with money and privilege, there is something akin to pathos in the video that I find painful to watch. Meghan’s aw-shucks, I-know-you-love-me tone assumes not only goodwill but abject fandom on the part of an audience which, I suspect, is at least 50% made up of those who regard her not only critically but with downright derision. It is hard to witness. “Sending lots of love,” she signs off with noblesse oblige and an almost charming dedication to what she imagines we think of her."

I'm beginning to agree with this, it is becoming slightly painful to watch.

There was no way Netflix would ever have handed $100 million to a cable actress and a minor royal. I always doubt the veracity of figures quoted in public and that seemed particularly inflated.

Without the Royal mud slinging would Netflix have offered them anything at all?

DuchessDissasster · 20/02/2025 11:13

@MissFenellaPrism Harold didn't see it coming He was in the opposite of the " dick sand" as referred to in the movie " how to be single".

I agree. That article absolutely nails the problem, I think.

Uricon2 · 20/02/2025 11:28

I think the Mail smells blood and allied to the recent less than effusive coverage from eg the (normally fairly supportive) Guardian and (rabid fan site) laineygossip, it makes me wonder where it will end and what is coming next.

There was also an annoying tendency to translate the figures to GBP at 1:1 with the dollar, so £100m, £20m etc.

Maybe H&M read those reports, rather than their actual income, when they bought their place in Montecito.

DuchessDissasster · 20/02/2025 11:38

It must be very difficult to keep up this pretence but then a narc does think that they are indeed the best. I had a previous partner who was a narc and he did indeed believe he was the best, that his family really loved him despite his behaviour. He manifested a surface and public behaviour which showed the best of him while still holding the dark underneath of his character. That side was only revealed to a few and only at certain times. I had a lucky escape. Partners like these use you as a foil to their self image and end up abusing their closest with hot and cold behaviour. A narc is also ultimately jealous of their partner as they want to be the one in the spotlight.

They probably just assumed Charles would keep bankrolling them ad infinitum

I don't even think it's that. Harry thought he'd been cut off, and probably felt like he'd been cut off, even if he hadn't. So he wasn't counting on that.

But he doesn't strike me as the sort of person who'd sit down and go, "this is the sort of life I want, the legacies I want to leave my children, how much do I need to achieve this and how do I go about earning that reliably"?

(He's very emotional about that inheritance - the money from Diana has to go to his kids, not, you know, be spent on raising them?)

Meghan, I would credit with having the hustle/grift/aspiration to keep doing "stuff" but without a plan for how "stuff = money" and "lifestyle = money".

(My own spreadsheet on the matter is meticulous, but then it has to be, because six or seven figure sums won't ever appear unless I work at it)

User14March · 20/02/2025 12:00

@MissFenellaPrism I am an outlier but I think he will keep bank rolling them.

Vespanest · 20/02/2025 12:10

I'm not sure Charles even has the cash assets to afford long term support of their needs. The odd million here and there is not going to cut it. Realistically if Harry and Meghan want to continue this lifestyle and that of their children then they need to grow a hefty investment portfolio to produce a lifestyle not reliant on there earning power which could fade if it hasn't already.

User14March · 20/02/2025 12:13

@Vespanest how expensive is their lifestyle & do her clothes come for free? The fashion bill must be ££ alone.

User14March · 20/02/2025 12:15

@RecoIIectionsMayVary I thought Harry was committed to a multi book deal re: Spare with jaw dropping revelations to come?

I wonder what happened to all the bespoke couture outfits Charles paid for? Givenchy, Dior, Stella McCartney, etc.....
