I noticed the old thread is almost full so thought we could start a new one to carry on the discussion about the rebrand and merching.

Are you an ‘As Ever’ or ‘Whatever’?

Thanks everyone for such an entertaining thread!

And she may be failing now but she's had her successes.

Er, no. No, she hasn't.

Oh I think they both definitely have psychological
issues. Harry’s probably a bit more obvious but I wonder if Meghan’s mother not being on the scene for a number of years had a deeper impact on her than she realises. It seems something she has buried deep enough she wants no mention of it ever.

I wonder also what will happen when Archie reaches the age at which her mother more or less disappeared. I think she was around six, and Archie is five. I suspect something will be triggered then and she'll start to think about herself at that age. it will be doubly hard as she no longer has any contact with her father who was the main parental influence on her.

Germaine Greer said she has met Nigella several times and that she's even more obscenely beautiful in person, which is hard to imagine.

Nigella is a legend for a reason. I think the Nigella we see on TV is basically a persona, with her playing a role, so she's not bothered about any piss taking. By contrast, Meghan seems to have no core personality or sense of who she really is, so any criticism is a threat to her.

DH has friends who were at university with Nigella and he said she was known as the true great beauty of her time. In that he was hearing about her well before she became famous.

Gretel Packer is also almost a spitting image of her father Kerry Packer when she was young and she was stunning and he was - not. So it's odd really how the genetic dice re-arranges itself in a single person. (Terrible mixed metaphor). (I wont post a pic because I'm unsure about various copyrights but if you google young Gretel packer the pics come up).

FromThePrismOfJammyTodger · 22/02/2025 16:50

Nigella's mum was a model, so I think her gene pool was the magic ingredient that turned Nigel Lawson's mush into Nigella's raving beauty.

Do we know why Doria was absent and for how long?

I had forgotten about that but it's another example of a trauma bond that they have.

BasiliskStare · 22/02/2025 16:54

@IcedPurple I saw Nigella at a book launch once and she is beautiful. Also I have never IRL seen anyone with such perfect and luminous skin. But yes Nigella is a clever woman & seems pretty secure in herself . Which is why I think she won't care about people poking fun at her persona. & she knows what she's doing with it. Also she could just as easily pop up , maybe not now but she has previously, on a serious book review programme where she wouldn't be doing the smouldering.

Onlyonekenobe · 22/02/2025 16:28

Yes, she used to work for an agency and like many employed professionals, undoubtedly thought she didn't have to be an employee when she's doing all the work and can go freelance. With someone like Harry and Meghan as key clients, not a bad idea. But she's a one-woman band, highly exposed to a tempestuous single client. All eggs in one holey basket. Meghan will be telling her what to do, not the other way round. I don't see that relationship lasting.

It's Ashley Hansen. Who worked directly for Archewell, and is now a 1 woman band called 3 Gates. Which is probably exactly the same as working for M&H, but without a secure salary. She's alluded to them being difficult in a recent article in The Cut, iirc. There was also a long article about her supposedly resigning (the article was about their high turnover of staff and her being the latest to leave), that appeared and disappeared in the space of a few hours in the Sunday Times in December 2023. Which was all very mysterious at the time.

Her business won’t launch until months after the show!

Page six:

‘Sources told us that the As Ever lifestyle products won’t be ready for sale until a few months after the show’s launch.
As Page Six previously revealed, the mom-of-two has teamed up with Netflix to sell her products. Contrary to reports, we are told there won’t be any pop-up installations or branded cafes at malls across the country.’

Edited

I ve just got home and am catching up. I was just about to ask how the selling stuff works. Maybe people will buy stuff from watching the programme but once all episodes have been shown, surely interest will fizzle out?

Interesting article and gives an overview of the south park episode for those of us who never watched it!

Someone online has done a South Park parody too.

It does seem like this was the turning point for them being figures of ridicule over in the US.

I’ll attach the photos (they’ll need review before they appear).

There won't be any stuff so no-one will have to make a decision to buy.

BunnyLake · 22/02/2025 17:08

@MummyJ12 There’s a fairly new parody channel on Youtube called Ham who can really encapsulate the pair’s absurdity. (Which I’ve only just realised is styled as HaM) with a cartoon joint of ham as its logo.

When it comes to parody they really are the gift that keeps on giving.

Do we know why Doria was absent and for how long?

I think Tom Bower has hinted that there are things he knows but cannot say. So who knows? When she was around I gather that she and Thomas were quite amicable and the three of them did things together, so it doesn't seem to have been an estrangement arising from the relationship breakdown.

IdaGlossop · 22/02/2025 17:15

There have been suggestions Doria was in prison.

Its not clear what age Meghan was when her DF became her sole carer - the parents divorced when she was two and assume she left with her Mum then? What did she say in The Tig - was it that her DF collected her from school every evening for 10 years and took her to set? That would add up to her being with her DF from 6 years old. But was there another version where she lived with him from when she was12 years old as her Mum was working away for an Airline or a travel agency?

But yes I imagine there would have been an emotional impacton Meghan at the family breakdown at 2 years old (can only assume things were bad before the Mum left as well). Also depends how often she saw her Mum from age 6 or 12 - if it was weekends etc I doubt there would be much impact as many families work around shift patterns but if she was away for weeks or months at a time that would have been challenging.

That's another of the stories, like the 'annulled marriage', that I find hard to believe, especially as prison records are publicly accessible in California.

Vespanest · 22/02/2025 17:24

I've avoided the Doria thread as I'm not that keen on gossiping about someone who has had little choice in being in the spotlight

I hope it's not true and that she was working a job that wasn't compatible with children care.

I just saw the mood board. O. M. G.

It actually perfectly encapsulates Meghan's professional efforts:

  • 100% style over substance (she has labels for a raspberry spread, stylised writing etc, but not spread and no previous mention of spreads or proven capability in spreads). What does the entirety of the board actually say? Who knows!
  • dated, old fashioned
  • rushed, around the level of output you'd expect from a capable 16yo on a Saturday afternoon
  • all about her: photos of her (even a photo of her taking a photo!), everything pointing towards her look/image but nothing about any achievements
  • put together for a reason (to start to build a lifetsyler's narrative), transparent as glass and rendering the whole thing even more pointless
  • too little, too late
  • mired in legal woes
  • obligatory Harry reference
  • cheap and obvious materials

I don't think this couple have a team. I think it's just them, and for her work she pays ad hoc for PR work and does everything else herself. She'll have people who send her things, if there's a chance they can make money out of her, but otherwise I think it's ad hoc advice. She'll pay a stylist or PR advisor or creative or photographer for this or that event, but probably think she can do it better herself/it's not good value for money and end up culling those expenses. And it shows. Harry will be inside the invictus machine, so will benefit from that. He's also happy to be told what to do. She definitely isn't.

It's so game over for this chick. What opportunities squandered.

(Have to mention the god-awful reference to Montecito being her neighborhood. Her husband's money bought them a house there under 5 years ago. That is NOT the definition of being so deeply of a neighborhood that you appropriate its nickname for your own commercial endeavours. She's more nouveau than the most nouveau of WAGs, seriously. She really has brought new meanings to "duchess" and now Montecito!)

obligatory Harry reference

I think it's funny how she seemingly believes that their relationship is some sort of selling point.

8 years ago, maybe, but they're now parents in their 40s. Clever PR from the despised grey suits might have made Harry seem like an eligible bachelor a decade ago, but now the 'hero Harry' thing is ancient history and he's shown himself to be a bitter, petulant man child with a bald patch that looks like carpet underlay. And there's no royal 'magic' to hide behind. We're not supposed to think he's some sort of catch, are we?

We will need a bingo card for the watch along - random and pointless appearance by Harry should definitely be on it, plus reference to "my husband", the hand framing face gesture, back view / partly obscured shot of a child, chickens, dogs, outfit change, mention of "my home state California" or "my neighbourhood", bare shoulders, jam, effusive hugging, not so subtle reference to being an amazing mother, crisp white shirt, throwing shade at the Waleses, what else?

Use of the words 'lens', 'community', and 'family'. Close-ups of her stacked, EXPENSIVE bracelets. Over-wide, insincere smile. Gareth exposing triangle of skin between breasts and stomach.
