I noticed the old thread is almost full so thought we could start a new one to carry on the discussion about the rebrand and merching.

Are you an ‘As Ever’ or ‘Whatever’?

If they did ask to meet them and M pushed back, that should have rung alarm bells.

I'm sure it did - I can't imagine the RF hadn't asked to meet them.

It's optics, imo. Her dad didn't fit the image she wanted.

But that all backfired. He wasnt the invisible man - she couldnt keep him hidden. If she had just involved him he probably would have sunk without trace from public view after the day like Dianas, Fergie, Sophies, Kates Dads - instead of the media circus for years after.

Stickystickysticky · 21/02/2025 20:55

Did she have any friends at the wedding? It was so odd to only have her mother there, no uncles , aunts or cousins. I know it was a big place to fill but I can't imagine having all those virtual strangers at my wedding.
I know Kate and William had dignitaries that they probably hadn't met before at theirs but they also had friends and family.

StartupRepair · 21/02/2025 20:58

Two thoughts.

  1. Canada really isn't an option. Meghan clearly thought it was too much of a backwater for her global awesomeness. Harry doesn't understand the constitutional set up or the fact that the King is represented in Canada by the Governor General. It is quite wild that he has been wandering about there making promises to First Nations people with no relevant authority.
  2. The problem with any redemption arc is that both of them resort immediately to spite where there is any push back. 'the Queen doesn't own the word Royal' was one of their more outrageous utterances. Meghan's mean girl approach to well everyone and Harry's nastiness towards William eg the balding commented are out there. They really have shown us who they are and spite is so close to the surface that it can't be airbrushed away.

‘It could be argued (but it is best we debate it another day) that Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, is the 21st century’s answer to Michelangelo. Mononymous, multi-disciplined, great at decorating – they are effectively one and the same, just cruelly born in different times. M&M. Two peas, one pod. Peas two ways, if you will.

But did anyone actually scream on seeing Meghan's Mood Board?

😂😂😂😂😂

DuchessDissasster · 21/02/2025 21:11

"“You’re probably wondering how I get all my crazy, brilliant ideas. ". No not really.

He was the one who broke up with Cressida, apparently she was blindsided and upset about it.

Wasn't she the one who was pissed off about having to cough her own air fare to attend Harold's mate, the ghastly Guy Pelly's wedding?

Dodged a bullet IMO.

I have absolutely no idea , I am only saying I read an article to that effect .
I truly hope it is untrue.

If there are abuse allegations, they will be fabricated. That's why her dad will have to be dead before she says anything.

MissRoseDurward · 21/02/2025 21:54

Canada really isn't an option.

The Canadians. as I recall, didn't want them. I think there was something about them being afraid they would be expected to pick up the bill for their excessive security requirements.

And I think Justin Trudeau was very fond of the late Queen. He probably didn't want them causing embarrassment for her while on his turf.

I wonder? The relationship with Chelsey seemed quite long and enduring, didn't it? However, she didn't want a royal role, so they split up.
Ironic.

Interesting that he wasn’t prepared to step back from Royal duties for her.

"“You’re probably wondering how I get all my crazy, brilliant ideas. ". No not really.

I saw that on one of the Meghan hate accounts.

Imagine thinking it was in any way acceptable to compare Meghan to Charles Manson.

MissRoseDurward · 21/02/2025 20:29

Who the f&@k drops a parent because they don't suit their optics?

Not just optics. Thomas was in a position to debunk the 'poor little me' stories M had been spinning about her life before Harry. The family she never had, for example - she had grandparents and uncles on both sides. Uncle Mike (who also wasn't allowed to meet Harry, and as ex-US Navy, ex-diplomatic service should have been entirely suitable to mingle with Royals) got her the internship in wherever it was.

Exactly, MissRoseDurward
As we've seen Meghan's extremely keen on making up scenarios about herself, and introducing Harry to someone who may have blown a hole in some of them before the ring was in place could have been ... risky

As for whether the RF wished to meet her people, I get the rationale but doubt they'd have needed to; if there's anything they want to find out they'll have much better sources of information than the family itself

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 21/02/2025 22:04

Harry's nastiness towards William eg the balding commented

Not least because it is coming back to bite him on the bonce.

IdaGlossop · 21/02/2025 22:18

coolmum123 · 21/02/2025 21:58

Interesting that he wasn’t prepared to step back from Royal duties for her.

She probably didn't ask, or enter the relationship with a plan to flee to South Africa. H has only gone to California because M led him there, by the 'nose'.

Baital · 21/02/2025 22:30

Spitefulness does tend to rebound in the end, I think.

Plus, while people often give the benefit of the doubt to a seemingly plausible tale, sooner or later they spot a pattern of behaviour

StaySpicy · 21/02/2025 23:36

"my crazy, brilliant ideas"

Erm, what have those been, then, Meghan? Some of your ideas could have had merit but you execute most things quite poorly, for someone who should have a team of experts at her elbow.

NotOnThe · 21/02/2025 23:57

Great thread everyone. Love reading everyone's insights.

friendlycat · 22/02/2025 00:28

I think that this thread has shown that in the main most people who have contributed have considered the overall and various aspects of their predicament and why they are in the position they are.

We have also commented on articles that have been published both in the uk media and specifically those in the USA. Plus our own thoughts on what Meghan herself is putting on SM.

I always get extremely irritated by the fans that shout about Meghan being hated and the vitriol they feel she’s subjected to as though people just independently decide to hurl insults at her, without recognising that actually people are responding to her actions, words and her own behaviour that she’s publicly and willingly giving to the outside world.

She doesn’t have to “sell” herself, she doesn’t have to publicly speak at events, she doesn’t have to promote herself on SM etc. it’s her choice to do so. Therefore, in doing so ultimately, and unfortunately, she’s inviting people to express their views and opinions on the content of what she publicly has decided to impart.

It’s just sad that many on this thread can quite easily see how wrong their combined actions have been and what a negative impact it’s all had. It’s shockingly sad that they would have had expert advice in their early days of their “breaking free” and how apparent it is that they’ve really messed up by not taking on board professional advice and believing that they know better than others.

Even this latest amateurish approach to the rebranding shows that absolutely no lessons have been learnt at all. And considering all the mistakes and missteps that have preceded this that’s quite mind blowing.

Stickystickysticky · 22/02/2025 00:45

I feel sorry for Charles , it must be painful for him. I have had times when I haven't liked my child's behaviour and we have had some real hum dinger arguments (mainly during their teen/early twenties ) but I just couldn't imagine not seeing her or my grandchild.

User14March · 22/02/2025 01:27

@Stickystickysticky yes & I suspect he blames himself, H thinks his mother was effectively murdered, Camilla was almost evil & his father complicit here. What an awful position. It’s why I think he’ll bankroll them as far as he can & always leave a door open.

@friendlycat in M’s defence IMO she doesn’t want to let people in to her/their private world & show her real self so some of these ‘mistakes’ are down to this & her rather anodyne approach a consequence. Who cares about jam?

I believe the late Queen thought the wedding was going to be a much smaller affair in a more intimate setting given that Meghan only had a handful of family she could have invited. Seemingly Harry said no to it because he wanted her to have her big day.

I wonder how many of the complete (Hollywood) strangers she invited have had any kind of contact with them since that day?

Weepixie · 22/02/2025 03:55

@Stickystickysticky

I have 5 children so there’s been many humdingers along the way. I also have 8 grandchildren who’d ages range from 3 to 20. Life without any of them in it because of conflict would be unbearable.

Thedom · 22/02/2025 06:11

A poster on Reddit pointing out the similarity of the painting on Meghans vision board and this pap photo of Catherine and William, even down to the clothes. It's so weird..

Aloeveraplants · 22/02/2025 06:35

I personally think she’s obsessed with outdoing Catherine and William. I also think she has fed Harry’s jealousy of William and turned him against Kate. Just my feeling.

She had at least 2 friends there, Jessica Mulroney and Benita Litt, both of whom's children were page boys/bridesmaids respectively. We know MM dropped JM after JM was accused of racism by someone a couple of years later.

The person/friendship I find mysterious is Benita Litt. She's supposedly an old friend of MM, and MM is supposedly the godmother to her 2 girls. She was sat next to Doria in the pew at Windsor Chapel - Doria was the lone family member, but she was not alone in the chapel, you can see from pictures taken of the bride and groom at the alter that they are sitting together, so why the narrative that Doria was alone? I can't recall her ever being seen or heard of again after the wedding. I can't recall her being mentioned in any of the books about the Sussexes. She's not come up in anything written about MM since the wedding. MM has not mentioned her in public since.

And she is an expert in the fields MM needs expert help in: she's an IP lawyer and specialises in launching brands and brand management and making sure everything goes smoothly. According to her website, that is. Why isn't this old friend helping MM get it right?

The other friend who was at the wedding was Markus Anderson. Another mysterious figure. For a while, he always seemed to be with H&M at events they attended, but he hasn't appeared with them for a year or so now.
