Meghan giving a speech at the Oscars about the fires - Oh for the love of Betsy - Please no. I don't believe this will happen - or at least if it does, bring back Ricky Gervais one more time as host. -

I really doubt the King has the time to find the one person who will defend anything she does. I do think the whole saga probably makes him a bit sad but he is extremely busy and they have given no indication they want his help, except monetarily of course

I felt quite daft after I posted but I thought person who made the comments also did PR for the King and knows which way the wind should kindly blow when the need arises.

How very very far the mighty have fallen. 🤣

I honestly couldn’t laugh about it. After looking at the NF site I’m shocked and quite upset by what Harry and Meghan are now reduced to. Not that I’m a fan of theirs at all. And no, I haven’t forgotten the lies, the scheming and all the rest of it. I’m just dismayed and saddened by how far they’ve fallen.

Ah you're clearly very kind hearted but honestly H&M don't need anyone's pity.

They have far more wealth, privilege and cultural and social capital than 99.99999% of the rest of the world.

Plus, they have their healthy, their adored children and a uniquely strong bond of love between them. They are like salt and pepper, or two trees entwined at the root. They will be just fine.

Commercially though, it's not working out for them, at all. To a couple with their level of wealth and privilege this could only ever be an embarrassment - it can't really hurt them. And I think their Ozymandias-style downfall has important lessons for all current and aspiring celebrities:

  1. If you enjoy vast wealth and privilege, do not try to create a personal brand based on trauma and suffering. It's cloth-eared. People won't like it.
  2. Don't sign $multi-million dollar production deals unless you are 100% sure that you have the ideas and talent to produce truly great content
  3. Everyone exaggerates or tells fibs sometimes, especially when trying to portray ourselves in a positive light. However, try not to tell big whoppers that are easily falsified by empirical evidence.
  4. If you're lucky and privileged enough to have PR advice...TAKE IT!!!

And finally, the most important one for me...

ALWAYS RESPECT AND LISTEN TO YOUR ELDERS. They have more experience than you, and that makes them smart. In addition, if you disrespect your elders, Karma will not treat you kindly.

If it's a plot to hide their brand, then the big mistake is that you don't actually want to hide your brand. If someone has leaked the brand, so what?

Put something on your insta saying, "yup, As Ever coming soon, can't wait to share it with you on the launch".

Kim Kardashian had to shelve the "Kimono" name for her shapewear because it was awful/appropriation, but flipped to Skims so quickly that you'd think THAT was deliberate. It didn't take over a year, and there would definitely have been a boost to sales from brand awareness.

MissFenellaPrism · 19/02/2025 13:24

Good guidance, @GiveMeSpanakopita .
It's a shame they'll never take it.

Oh, there are still plenty of very rich people in the States!

Not visiting Netflix stores in malls.

I think it would be entertaining! I'd watch for the schmaltz alone😂no doubt she herself was once in a terrible fire.

Ah, yes! The space heater melted, causing a small near-catastrophic fire.

Fortunately Archie was not in the room at the time.

I can only assume it was set deliberately by a racist colonialist. Perhaps the ghost of Prince Philip, in a break from his usual modus operandum of assassination by car crash.

Or perhaps that well known racist, colonialist villain Prince William, who was attempting to use the space heater to cook the extra sausage which he was afforded as the heir whilst Harry, the poor, downtrodden Spare, had to make do with a smaller pork portion. Thus causing untold pain and suffering.

It was always too much for the pair of them.

The clothing brand whose name she 'stole', don't appear to be too enamoured with their newfound fame, they posted this message to their Instagram stories.

For all our As Ever customers and fans. Please tag any of your social posts featuring @asevernyc with #asever and #asevernyc to help prevent their work from being buried in the current media storm. Small, independent brands, as ever: Spread the word!”

Feel awful for them really, small brand who are unlikely to have the funds to take on a legal fight for their brand name..

Edited

I'm not sure they need to sue, @Thedom
First of all, if it goes the same way as everything else the new "asever" may well disappear while they carry on regardless, and secondly it's brought them a HUGE amount of attention - and probably positive attention if their gracious statements are anything to go by

Serenster · 19/02/2025 14:02

Ah, yes! The space heater melted, causing a small near-catastrophic fire.

Just smoke actually! There was no fire!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/02/2025 14:07

It’s quite possible ARO was a decoy, Harry did say recently that they got a kick out of watching “trolls” following a line of attack and being proved wrong. I wouldn’t put it past them to dream up an elaborate ruse, they have form for it

I've wondered about this myself, @Ohpleeeease, but surely that kind of thing's only effective if someone's got a genuinely successful venture coming up on the sidelines ... and so far it's just not there

jeffgoldblum · 19/02/2025 14:13

It's worth thinking about?
But I'm sorry to say Harry doesn't have the intelligence, emotional or otherwise to pull off such a stunt!
And I don't believe anything he says now!
Not to mentioning his copying of William! , it's been long mentioned that William used to plant fake stories to see who could be trusted! No doubt more bollocks from Harry as usual.

IcedPurple · 19/02/2025 14:17

What's so 'uniquely strong' about their 'bond of love'?

And sure, materially they will be 'fine' by almost any standards. But Harry gave up everything and everyone he knew to be an almost unemployed curiosity in California where, if the VF story is correct, he has struggled to make friends. She is vastly richer, more famous and more high status than she would ever have dreamed, but she seems to be struggling for relevance. She wants to be looked up to and envied, but in reality she is increasingly a figure of fun. Is that really 'fine'?

Dear Serenster, you seem to be struggling with Meghanese. It's a rich and complex language, almost impenetrable to outsiders, but one I hope I am beginning to grasp. Allow me to translate some phrases for you as examples:

Stuck in traffic on the Upper East Side = a near catastrophic car chase

In-laws a tad fuddy-duddy and keen on tradition = fed to the wolves by villainous and sinister Men in Grey

Air steward once gave me a tub of ice cream on a long-haul flight = Pilot sank to his knees in a profusion of admiration at my regal presence

Dad got me an internship = I am a top ranking UN ambassador

Daily Mail sub-editor poked mild fun in a headline = racist hatred which even the Völkischer Beobachter would baulk at printing

Using this translation methodology therefore, I propose:

Space heater bar melted and smoked a bit = raging bedroom fire like Bertha setting Mr Rochester's bed on fire, Archie escaped by the skin of his teeth, clearly stochastic terrorism carried out at the behest of those evil racist colonialist eugenicists, the British Royal Family.

I don’t know whether “effective” is something they consider. They get caught up in the drama and subterfuge.

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 19/02/2025 14:27

But if it was a decoy, doesn't it harm those that supported it. No one wants to feel like they are being used, or be the but of a joke.

IcedPurple · 19/02/2025 14:28

I don't think it was a decoy. They're not that Machiavellian and have a complete inability to plan patiently in advance. As usual with them, it's just incompetence and thinking they know best. Nobody is going to go to the trouble of filing a trademark, appealing the rejection, setting up an Instagram and sending out half assedly 'branded' products as a 'decoy'.

Besides, it's an absolutely terrible business move. You want your brand to have a clear identity from day one. To say she hasn't achieved this is an understatement! The whole thing is a shambles.
