She might want to make a speech at the Oscars, but I would be very surprised if she was able to. Surely those presenting/ making speeches are carefully selected? It's not an open mic event...

andyouwillknowusbythetrailofdead · 16/02/2025 08:07

I'm just sad that her presence at the IG distracted from the competitors' achievements. She never seems able to just do her duty, which in this case would have been to stay away.

It would be a great coup for Meghan if she did though.

There have always been threads criticising people in the public eye (plenty on the family with many children and Katie Price, as only 2 examples)

Harry and Meghan aren't the Syd Barrett and Greta Garbo of Montecito, seeking to be left alone and stay out of the news. They have positioned themselves as celebrities, have multiple Netflix shows, podcasts, international tours (etc) They want and need attention, to make money as much as anything now I think, they use their Royal titles, they have a platform from which to pronounce, including unfavourably on their own family who they know won't retaliate in kind.

They would of course prefer this to be entirely on their own terms and garner nothing but glowing praise, but it doesn't work like that. It especially doesn't work like that when there are huge gaps between their pious statements and actual behaviour, including having a particularly vicious member of their cheer squad on tour with them.

I just find H and M endlessly entertaining!

Me too. It’s like watching a real life circus.

Aren't they?! They're so privileged and so lacking in knowledge and self awareness, it's just extraordinary.

Yes, but she does believe that she has some sort of special status.
Why make a speech at Invictus? That was ridiculous, both in content and tone.

MissFenellaPrism · 16/02/2025 08:51

OhcantthInkofaname · 16/02/2025 00:50

Would you please just leave them alone?

They don't want to be left alone. Publicity is their oxygen.

So do I, and the posters on this thread are funny.

There are so many troll posts on MN now I avoid the main boards, although admittedly it does sometimes feel like H&M are trolling. I wouldn't believe a post made by one of them.

Mylovelygreendress · 16/02/2025 08:57

I wonder if there’s any truth in the rumour that Meghan tore a strip off an employee at Seattle airport because he didn’t address her “ properly “?

MrsLeonFarrell · 16/02/2025 08:58

If they dropped the Royal titles I'd stop commenting on them. It's the way they are trying to be celebrities and royals that I find so fascinating. Like fish riding bicycles it just doesn't work.

Howtosupportpartner · 16/02/2025 09:00

MissTrip82 · 16/02/2025 07:08

It’s so odd that people who don’t like this woman start so many threads about her. It’s very very different to other celebrities. Extremely noticeable.

I wonder what the difference could be?

It’s horrible isn’t it , just chipping away at her and everything she tries to do. Constant bitchy criticism do people not have enough going on in their own lives ?

Placcyboel · 16/02/2025 09:05

I must admit that I really do not have a lot going on in my life and find a bit of mindless scrolling on these threads quite entertaining. Still I must have more going on than those posters with the time to seek out threads they are not interested in to comment on.

Yes. If they dropped the royal titles, I'd respect them. I definitely did when Archie was born and Omid Scobie tweeted that H&M didn't want titles for their children and he would be plain Master Archie Harrison. I thought that was great.
Of course, that turned out not to be the long term plan.

I don't know whether she is or not, just that her representatives reached out about the same time as the Billie Eilish vid.

@Mylovelygreendress the entertainment comes from the pleasure of watching hypocrites and dishonest folk get their comeuppance. It's a deeply satisfying feeling and one that is intrinsic to human nature: we ALL feel it. Evolutionary psychologists (eg Piaget) have theorised that it's a societal control mechanism which evolved when homo sapiens began living in small foraging and hunting communities of about 50 - 80 people. In a community that size, dishonesty and subterfuge can threaten the literal survival of the community (say one person had found a source of food but was trying to conceal it from the others) and therefore the urge to publicly puncture deceitful behaviour and hold it up to the light, has evolved in response. We reveal hypocrisy and lies, we get a dopamine rush in reward. Over time this has the effect of making deceitful behaviour less appealing for fear of a public shaming, and hence the survival of the group becomes more likely.

TLDR: All normal human beings love watching pompous bloviating arseholes get their deserved comeuppance. We would literally not be human if we didn't.

If it’s the rumour I’ve heard it involved a CBP officer ( which could make sense given the reason for the Seattle pit stop) and that the exchange perhaps didn’t quite go in the direction planned by one of the participants.

Do you mean that he inexplicably failed to kneel in front of her, remove his hat and tell him how grateful he was that she had tried her best in the RF?

Must be a racist colonialist. They're everywhere in Seattle. Probably. Possibly. Well look, it's MY TRUTH, OK?!??

MissFenellaPrism · 16/02/2025 09:18

"pompous bloviating arseholes" 😂😂
Bonus points for Piaget, @GiveMeSpanakopita .

Viviennemary · 16/02/2025 09:21

Is anything actually happening in Montecito. Not much. Even the daft cookery programme was cancelled or postponed. I saw a trailer. What a load of ridiculous twaddle.

cheezncrackers · 16/02/2025 09:26

The overt PDA/Harry and Meghan show at Invictus struck me as a desperate attempt to try and a) dispel the divorce rumours that have been swirling around of late and b) create some positive PR for Meghan after the recent series of extremely negative articles.

She has a TV show to promote, one that is literally her last chance to have a success with Netflix before their contract ends in September. If 'With Love Meghan' bombs, that's it for her, surely? Netflix will drop them and American Riviera Orchard, which is supposed to be flogging merch off the back of this show, but whose launch has so far been a damp squib, will be dead on arrival.

As for Ghana, I see it as them flogging one of the only horses they have left and saying 'Yes' to one of the few things they get asked to do. In a handful of developing nations looking for a higher profile on the world stage, a visit from Harry and Meghan is something that at least gets them on the front pages of the foreign press for a few days. That's worth something to them, however silly it seems to us.

MissFenellaPrism · 16/02/2025 09:29

I think you're right, @cheezncrackers . The Ghana visit would give them what they crave - to stay in the limelight. The dressing up, people paying homage, being entertained, centre of attention, headlines, pictures - just their entire modus vivendi.
