Not sure if it’s because Trump is dominating the headlines or what, but compared to Düsseldorf, feels like these games are getting very little headlines and interest.

Meghans sartorial direction this year, clearly was to be ‘ very demure and very mindful’ (boring but at least covered up) instead of the multiple fashion disasters last time (short shorts, leather cut-out dress). She is dressing much more like a ‘Royal’ this trip and we haven’t had the PR puff pieces saying she did her own make-up. They were really at pains to tell us that last time, when they really didn’t need to- the clown vibes told us all we needed to know. But the result is, less press interest when she decides to dress appropriately. Even Harry, his hair loss has really accelerated and he looks like an old man. Not that that has anything to do with his involvement with the games etc, but looking old and tired isn’t going to get your photos in the papers/online.

I can’t see these games continuing. There’s no real press interest, the seats were filled with school kids to try and bump up the numbers, there’s a dwindling number of athletes (same ones year after year too), I doubt the new Trump US defence secretary will continue to fund the US team (they have the Warrior games), the costs to put on the games are spiralling. I think it will gradually wind down over the years. After Birmingham the events will get smaller less frequent.

Luckily Meghan will be selling her jams at the food courts in Malls all across America by then, so they’ll be fine.

The claw is back. I don’t know why she has to get involved, that was actually a lovely Harry moment as well

Well, quite.
There are a few other people there and if they've actually turned up to see M & H (as, presumably, the woman with the Vegemite did, since she gave it to Harry) it would make sense to split up and greet more people.
Maybe she thought that Harry seeming pleased to get some savoury spread would imply her jam was starting to pall for him a bit?

The claaaw!
The claw chooses what will go from the breakfast table and what will stay...

Although Harry hasn't exactly covered himself in glory over the last 5 years (to put it very mildly) he's still much, much better and more natural at these kind of interactions than she is. OK, some of it is probably the fact he's been doing them for longer, but IMO largely it's because he is quite good at it and she really isn't.

If they were wise (I know, hahaha) they would at least spilt up as @LaMarschallin suggests. A) the comparisons would be less marked and b) the impression of a needy limpet would be lessened.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 11/02/2025 13:17

Can’t the man have anything to himself without her interfering?

Well they don’t seem to have been together when the lady gave Harry the Vegemite. Where did Meghan even swoop in from? I’m inclined not to take most clips of them at face value as often the context has been edited out, but I can’t think of a single reason for this weird behaviour. It’s like she’s hurried back to see what she is missing out on. Could she not wait until Harry caught up with her and showed her his gift? Control freakery at its finest 🤪

friendlycat · 11/02/2025 13:31

In a funny sort of way I'm starting to feel a bit sorry for her as she is so not suited to all of this.

Her personality and need to be the focus of attention, her not reading the room/situation, her incessant grabbing clawing at him in inappropriate moments, her over pronounced facial expressions and overall her inability to act in a supporting role when appropriate.

But she especially has had ample opportunity to learn and to take wise advice from PR bods and such like. But it's apparent that any sage advice is disregarded by both of them. But Harry has at least grown up and experienced first hand all the walk about, meet and greet etiquette so it is more ingrained in him as to the behaviour expected of such occasions.

In some ways it really is a pile on now and that is sad to see. But somewhat inevitable when displaying such odd behaviour time and time again in front of the media and not listening to professional advice from those who are well placed to give it.

The endless striving for recognition, fame, celebrity style status is never going to produce the desired results when you can't get the foundations right and you don't actually have the "Star Quality" to offer your adoring public.

Herbologistinwaiting · 11/02/2025 13:36

I’m guessing the fanatic fringe who think they are wonderful will be their main audience. No one else is going to give a toss in a couple of years. Everything they do is try too hard and copy someone else’s idea . She comes across as more and more deranged and less and less relatable.

Looks like he gave her a very 'Paddington bear hard stare' - and rightly so!

Onlyonekenobe · 11/02/2025 13:39

She doesn't want to be seen/photographed/videoed doing nothing or not being in the center of the action or being secondary. She spent all her life pre-Harry as second/third/fourth billing and goddamit she's not going back there. She swooped in on a jar of vegemite fgs because it gave her something to do, otherwise she would have been standing there, swiveling around, looking for someone to talk to or someone to greet or something to smile beatifically at. She has to be at the center of everything, all the time. You almost feel sorry for her.

Nannies plural? How many nannies does it take to wrangle two small children?

I used to work for a very well known celeb type, one child - two nannies. Both were with the child most of the time from what I could see.

Uricon2 · 11/02/2025 13:55

@smilesy agreed. There was no need for her to come scampering over, at all.

The irony is in the early days of her marriage to Charles, at public events, everyone wanted to see Diana (I think he probably was a bit disconcerted by this) It sort of remained that way for the rest of her life. Meghan could have developed her own vibe by now and worked on her skills if they absolutely must do quasi Royal stuff. She's a ruddy grown up actress after all, rather than a Sloaney teen thrown in the deep end.

She seems totally unable to do this and it is resulting in increasingly grating, jarring incidents.

Yes and also - as well as the needy hyper-activity, I get the impression she genuinely thinks 'I can't let that person miss out on the honour and excitement of meeting ME too!' It's akin to the pushing Harry out of the way when she was briefly a member of the RF and diving in to shake hands with people first when, according to protocol, she should have let him go first. On one level she thinks she's God's Gift to us all, but underneath she's clearly very insecure and needs constant validation.

I'm still hearing and reading commentators refer to Meghan as 'a young American actress'.

Meghan is very attractive and (by one means or another) looks much younger than her 43 and a half years, but she is by no stretch of the imagination a 'young actress'. She wasn't, even on her wedding day!

This grates on me, not just because I'm an envious old frump but because it's a total misrepresentation of the facts. The narrative of Meghan and Harry still being young allows their fans to see them as much more innocent and guileless than they actually are, and to portray them as victims of a cruel 'system'.

I agree! Why does she always intrude on every interaction Harry has?!

This looks like the full video of what happened. She didn’t have to go over and when the lady wasn’t paying any interest in her she brings the claw out. Harry looks at her as if he’s thinking “what on earth are you doing?!”. She had it personalised with Harry’s name on. Didn’t have one for Meghan.

It looks quiet. The crowds are very small.

Edited

Harry looked genuinely happy and charmed until she came along.

Also, note once again the exaggerated gestures and clapping. Being American, I doubt she 'gets' the Vegemite thing either, which makes all the grinning even more weird.

I don't think she's doing herself any favours by insisting on hanging out of Harry all day. Frankly, it makes her look a bit desperate, like she has nothing better to be doing even though she has two small kids whom she left at home. The IG are a pretty low key event so there's really nothing for her to do. It would have looked much more appropriate if she'd just come for the closing ceremony.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/02/2025 14:47

They need to be pulled aside and shown the exit, rather than pillaging all they can from these games

Though I agree, that's Invictus management's decision to make, @CatsWhiskerz, and I wouldn't have thought Harry being Patron would complicate things much since they could just appoint someone else

However as mentioned before it's a very worthy cause but certainly not the only one which centres veterans; it's not even the only one which hosts games, and as we've seen the attendance is relatively small for the money spent

To me at least the issue of the veterans being supported/represented matters more than the folk doing it, and whether what's rapidly turning into a vanity project will continue remains to be seen

Uricon2 · 11/02/2025 14:54

Just crossed my mind that perhaps she realises that the cameras were on Harry and if she's not attached to him like lichen, she is much less likely to be filmed/photographed. No sympathy, perhaps if she did a few things truly independently/ that people could relate to she might be of more interest.

So what happened to 'professional separation'?

FromTheOfficeOfJammyTodger · 11/02/2025 15:07

She's greedy. Greedy for attention and for anything he has, even a jar of vegimite. Remember in Nigeria, she pushed past him and grabbed some beads meant for him one of the hosts was holding? In Colombia, she grabbed some flowers that he had been given. Grabbed them right out of his hands, and he looked really surprised, then defeated. She has to have her hands on everything and her "share". Even when he was presenting an award at the Kevin Costner/First Responder event, she had to have her hands on it first. She's like a bloody seagull, swooping down to grab it off him.

I think that idea seems to have gone for a Burton on this weeks showing @IcedPurple She seemingly can't read to some small children without him present.

I imagine it must irk to see Kate getting a very positive reaction at her solo engagements.

Yes! You’ve hit the nail on the head there.

Ohpleeeease · 11/02/2025 16:02

Invictus has to grow to survive. Nigeria and Colombia joined the Invictus Community of Nations in 2022 as the first African and South American representatives. Harry’s visits to those countries made absolute sense seen in that context. Meghan’s attendance on the other hand made no sense at all, all she did was diminish the impact of Harry’s presence.

Harry is unerringly loyal to his wife which is to his credit, but the extent to which he defers to her and seeks her approval is a sad sight. Even the PDAs seem to be delivered on demand, he presents his face for a kiss as though not to do so would mean trouble later.

The professional separation would have been a good thing for him, it’s a shame he wasn’t allowed to have his own spotlight.
