With this new authentic Insta post where Meghan positions herself as a go between in securing some signed merchandise I think there's still plenty to discuss.
This is a new image. No make up. Carefully edited insta. New lips. Is this influencer territory? Mention of " my husband and l " Echoes of the Queen ?

I've just read that neither Adam Levine nor Billy Eilish have put anything out on SM about the young girl and the T Shirt . I do genuinely wonder what they think of Meghan's video ,perfectly OK with it or were happy to help but thought it might be a bit more under the radar help.

Sounds as if that might have been a little naive if so, BasiliskStare

Nobody disputes that it was a kindly thing to do, but Meghan's taste for making absolutely everything about herself is hardly unknown

Thedom · 07/02/2025 19:04

My teen is doing the IB curriculum, the stuff these 16 / 17 year olds do as part of the IB programme (CAS, the service part of the programme) which the teens have to devise and implement and project manage themselves, would absolutely shame MM's effort at service and charity. Honestly, both of my kids have done this and I cannot think of one kid who outsourced their service effort by getting someone else to provide it.

This is not unique for a lot of kids, , Girl guides, scouts, etc all get involved in charitable efforts which they do from ground up and which really does make a difference

I tell you what , though , @Serenster that engagement ring could elevate quite a lot of ordinary.

This is why I love the RF threads 😂

I'm not usually a person that uses the react buttons on here but I find myself doing so profusely on this thread .

Thank you, GiveMeSpanakopita; on the back of all the posts I've just watched it and thought it was just me

I mean it's the sort of thing you do when your house has burned down isn't it ... not hunt desperately for important papers, passports, family photos, etc, but just some trashy souvenir T-shirt Confused

The whole thing has no more credibility than anything else she does ...

When your house is about to burn down, and you have notice that this is about to happen, you pack what matters in the time you have. Surely.

Baital · 08/02/2025 00:00

I am glad I haven't been in that situation.

A cousin has. It was a desperate couple of hours trying to find their cat while also trying to work out the practical and emotional priorities. Thankfully the wildfires didn't, in the end, reach them.

Reetpetitenot · 08/02/2025 00:07

Living in Australia in an area reasonably prone to bush fires we had what was fondly known as the 'Oh fuck rucksack' containing legal docs, passports, important photos etc. Lived in the cupboard under the stairs near the front door.

Weepixie · 08/02/2025 01:05

that is quite a rant! Can you imagine we know a lot of Egyptian children who don't speak a word of Arabic because they spend all day at an American school and then sit on YouTube or whatever when at home? There's a whole strata of society which has been Americanised. Depressing

Speaking as someone who also has an Arab husband I have to ask how it’s possible for children not to speak a word of Arabic if at least one of the parents speak Arabic?

My children, some of them now in their mid to late 40’s also watched the kind of Sesame Street type shows mentioned and had what could be considered an international type education but they are all fluent in spoken and written Arabic. They can also speak a 3rd language at a good enough level due to older members of the family and wider community speaking it.

My children aren’t unusual in this and in the almost 50 years I’ve lived the life I have, I’ve perhaps only twice come across children who wouldn’t even know how to say Salam Alaikum for example. Their circumstances were unfortunate though and it wasn’t the fault of Kermit or Americanisation.

Ive met many Egyptians in my lifetime here at home, I’ve also spent time in Egypt due to my husbands work and I’ve never come across a non Arabic speaking Egyptian. On the contrary they’re proud to be Egyptians and revel in their language and heritage.

Again, any Arab child who doesn’t speak a word of Arabic wasn’t let down by Kermit.

Weepixie · 08/02/2025 01:30

@Thedom

The room was something to behold. I was surprised by it and the person who spotted the pics must have had really good eye sight. Do you think they might manage to let us know what’s in the framed letter one day?

Regarding CAS hours - I have to agree with you.

I bet Pippa has a fabulous life, mega wealthy, famous enough to draw attention to causes close to your heart but not famous enough for it to disrupt your life, plus she got the best engagement ring out of the lot of them!

Oh I’d kill for that ring. Not going to happen on this lifetime though!

GiveMeSpanakopita · 08/02/2025 07:28

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/02/2025 16:39

Thank you, GiveMeSpanakopita; I know this is very much your world so appreciate the explanation

And at least I wasn't wrong about it being a bit odd to use a start-up for PR ...

It's quite sad when you consider that if she had stayed as a working royal and focused on a couple of causes and put in the work, by now she would have real influence and have access to the top people in any field

Edited to add, because it seems relevant to the above, at least she'd have had access to the very best PR @MissRoseDurward!!
Considering the silk purses they make out of the sows' ears of the rest of them, that might have been useful

Edited

There's three reasons I can think of why a globally famous celeb would stoop to using a start-up PR firm:

  1. They're secretly broke
  2. They don't like taking advice from people who know better than them. So, they choose a start-up, knowing that the start-up will be utterly reliant on them to keep their business afloat, and therefore work ridiculous hours and generally agree to whatever crazy hare-brained idea they have. I had this situation when I first started my own business. It's a really insidious position to be in because you don't feel you can say no to the client, or disagree with any of their wilder schemes. Your mortgage literally rests on the client's whim. It almost feels like being a eunuch servant of a capricious Mediaeval potentate. It is NOT conducive to good, well thought out PR strategies.
  3. Reputable agencies don't want to represent them! Word gets around fast in the industry, we may be rival agencies but it's a small world and someone who's your rival today may well end up being your boss in 5 years. So, we do pass around warnings about nightmare clients: clients who won't pay their invoices on time, or who treat juniors badly, or bully, or make ridiculous demands and refuse to accept advice.

By the way, is anyone here a Billie Eilish fan? I just found out last night that the lunchbox with LUNCH written on it is a reference to a song of hers about the joys of fellatio. Great, great gift for a traumatised 15 year old, Meg! Your famed attention to detail strikes again!

I doubt that the merch Meghan showed was signed by Billie for the girl in question, because it didn't have the girl's name on it.

It looked to me like bog-standard signed merch which any celeb has to produce loads of (or rather their teams do) to sell alongside non-signed merch at a higher price point.

Giving Meghan the benefit of the doubt here, I'll assume that she preferred not to show the personalised merch on camera to protect the teen's privacy, quite right too. What she showed on camera was not merch with a personalised message directed at any individual.

I know people who actually don't speak to their own children in Arabic. It's weird to me but incredibly common in our social circle. Added to that, the children are looked after by nannies from the Phillipines or Indonesia who speak to them in English. Even if the dcs in our social circle speak Arabic fluently, their written Arabic will be poor. Of course I am talking about very well off families. I also worked in international schools in Egypt and saw similar so it's not just dh's family and friends. That's not the fault of Sesame Street but a mindset that everything Western is better.

No I didn't know. I just googled about it and have read the lyrics. (Is the word felatio sex specific?)

So was it part of the ditsy girl, that we are meant to find it funny, or is she really so out touch with the people she appears to be aiming her SM at?

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 08/02/2025 09:44

@JSMill we have that in our social circle with European languages, reading and writing is usually poor and a disappointing amount can't speak the parents second language at all.

Serenster · 08/02/2025 09:50

By the way, is anyone here a Billie Eilish fan? I just found out last night that the lunchbox with LUNCH written on it is a reference to a song of hers about the joys of fellatio

Given it opens with “I could eat that girl for lunch”, I’m not so sure that’s quite what the song is about 🤣

elessar · 08/02/2025 10:41

Re. Three Gates and MM using a start up PR firm - isn't that because it's the start up that her existing internal comms person resigned in order to launch?

So it's a continuation of using the same representative for her comms, but now she's paying her as an external contractor rather than an employee? It's not just a random start up business that she's chosen.

You'd think so wouldn't you?
But as ever it's what matters to Meghan which counts, and if the account has to be invented which will put her in prime position then invented it will be

The pity of it is that she's just no good at this - the narratives are so transparent that all you can do is laugh

QueenOfHertz · 08/02/2025 11:24

My DC’s friend’s house burnt down and while they did have time, they didn’t pack what they should have done as they didn’t think the entire house would burn down, just the roof. So people react differently in a crisis.

I guess it's a theme with them having Katy Perry and her " I kissed a girl and I liked it " at Invictus. Female empowerment ?

Yikes!

Harry can breathe a sigh of relief…. President Trump says he isn’t getting deported but only because he’s got enough problems with his wife! 😂

The Trump comment amused me. Mind you, it seemed unTrumply succinct.

I do enjoy these threads; am delighted to read Cilla Black was an absolute monster! And MUST buy Pippa’s book. I was a child who had to drag a ladder to a tree to get an Easter egg! I read one or two pieces by her when she had a column and interest and she was quite funny. Self
deprecating. Now HER life is the winning one. Not Meghan and not Catherine. For me, anyway. Also, best ring.

BemusedAmerican · 08/02/2025 23:14

Trump described Harry as being led around by his nose - not that succinct.

I've said before that people in the US like William. He made a very favorable impression in his visit to NYC. I've never heard anyone criticize him. I would not stand around in that river even if you paid me to do it and he did so in business casual and pulled it off.
