Kensington Palace have released a photo of the Princess of Wales photographed by her youngest son, Prince Louis. It is to mark World Cancer Day, which is tomorrow.

How cute!

There are zero mechanisms to get rid of criminal Monarchs or Heirs. Zero.
They kept trying to bring Prince Andrew back in to public view. He is still a Counsellor of State. There has been no action to remove him. He also still has his titles.

And as he's never, ever going to be monarch, I don't know why you're using him as an example.

How have they "kept trying to bring Prince Andrew back in to [sic] public view"?

@Uricon2 So you are just ignoring the Nazi Monarch we had who is suspected of passing on details of troop movements to the Nazis during World War two that likely led to British soldiers deaths? Rightyho.

Who was gone before he was even crowned, that one you mean?

JoyousGreyOrca · 05/02/2025 17:06

@mainecooncatonahottinroof He committed likely treason. The government were only able to get rid of him because he was having an affair.

We still have Andrew as a Counsellor of State FFS. He has not even be removed.

Uricon2 · 05/02/2025 17:15

OK. Genuine question for all those who want shot of the RF.

What sort of people would you like to see as elected HoS? How would they be selected/ run for election? What sort of term would they serve? What would their duties be?

ETA Sorry, this is a thread about Prince Louis so happy to repost if anyone thinks I should.

I thought we were discussing a photo.

I was answering something in a post. But yes I agree. Back to the photo

This thread is thoroughly derailed now!
Why does every single thread regardless of the topic get derailed this way?

We have a thread that started this discussion

Page 9 | What do you want as head of state for the UK | Mumsnet

We are a mixed bag of pro and anti-monarchy on here so I've created a little poll to see at a glance were we stand: [[https://poll-maker.com/Q72KOF2Z...

Typical RF board meander I think @mainecooncatonahottinroof Grin

@wordler , thanks, I missed that, will read.

Further edit to say I say D Attenborough and Joanna Lumley on the 2021 poll shortlist . Chuffed I was on the right track for once

jeffgoldblum · 05/02/2025 17:18

I would politely ask all the republicans to start their own threads to discuss this , that way if posters wish to engage they can , without ruining it for others who are bored with the same arguments that have been brought up for years!

jeffgoldblum · 05/02/2025 17:16

This thread is thoroughly derailed now!
Why does every single thread regardless of the topic get derailed this way?

Because there are about five posters who always come on every thread and start moaning about their tax payer money being spent on members of the royal family.

And then the rest of us bite trying to correct all the barmy stuff they say!

A committee could be set up to shortlist people who put themselves forward, and then the shortlist voted on as part of the General Election. If it is included in the General Election, the additional costs are extremely minor.
The committee would be responsible for vetting people.

jeffgoldblum · 05/02/2025 17:21

I'm not blaming you @wordler or any of the others for biting but it gets tedious.... every single time!
Some of us who have been here years have heard these arguments hundreds of times , it's always the same words in a different order.

I know - I keep deciding not to be goaded but find it hard not to when there's so much misguided or perhaps deliberate misinformation in some of the rants.

I enjoy the more nuanced debates.

Me too, when that rare opportunity arises.

jeffgoldblum · 05/02/2025 17:41

And I will add against my better judgment, a general election?
Vetting applicants?
Well i assume they are supposed to do this for politicians and that went well!

And with all due respect the majority of the voting public are still voting for these idiots!

How will this change? How will we not get a president boris or farage?

jeffgoldblum · 05/02/2025 17:42

I'm assuming the answer will be but , but , but .

BigWillyLittleTodger · 05/02/2025 17:48

Gosh my President Saville Black Mirror scenario has really ruffled the republican feathers, they have had to bring out the big guns of a nazis and but but Andrew, the fact is my scenario isn’t scaremongering at all, it’s incredibly close to the bone and the republicans know it.

jeffgoldblum · 05/02/2025 17:50

@BigWillyLittleTodger , I'm assuming the American public thought the idea of trump being president twice was a joke 10 years ago ! , the Simpsons even did a parody episode about it !
But here we are!

BigWillyLittleTodger · 05/02/2025 17:51

JoyousGreyOrca · 05/02/2025 17:02

@Uricon2 So you are just ignoring the Nazi Monarch we had who is suspected of passing on details of troop movements to the Nazis during World War two that likely led to British soldiers deaths? Rightyho.

And our government got rid of him, the Mrs Simpson love story was just a convenient cover.

jeffgoldblum · 05/02/2025 17:51

And following my own advice, that's my last comment on that topic.

IAmATorturedPoet · 05/02/2025 17:54

@Wordler has a thread running on this very subject. For some reason recently it has been discussed everywhere else on this board but on there.

It's very boring to keep hearing but, but, but Ireland or but, but, but France. If it works for them great, but where this country is concerned on-one seems to be able to even answer how we would logistically run a referendum on it.

It's just pulled from the list of convenient derails which a lot of us have seen many times before.

@BigWillyLittleTodger the type of person that would run for the job would be the type of person you wouldn't want, so could easily be a Jimmy Saville type figure. President Saville is the stuff of most peoples nightmares.

MrsFinkelstein · 05/02/2025 18:07

JoyousGreyOrca · 05/02/2025 15:59

Funny how that does not happen on Ireland. They have not had to manoeuvre an actual Nazi from the Head of State position, unlike Britain.

Its just classic scare mongering. Imagine any scenario you can and pretend that could happen, whilst ignoring what has happened with the Royal Family.

No, but they currently have someone who regularly insulges in blatant antisemitism.
