"on Harry, I consider him a deeply traumatized person. I don’t think he operates on a normal level and he may never be able to. He seems ok, he’s down stupid things but don’t think he seems mean, just a bit thick." [My underlining for emphasis.]

I think this once widely-held view of Harry will diminish the more he speaks and writes, and reveals himself rather than some media-trained facade. I personally think, on the evidence, that he's a very mean person indeed.

A pivotal moment for me was how bad-tempered he became when Anderson Cooper put it to him that he could relinquish his titles. The mask really slipped then.

It is also mean of him to let his own lies stand about his family members and his country.

It is mean of him to let his own wife's lies stand about his family members and his country.

It is mean of him to let his paid mouthpieces' lies stand about his family members and his country.

It is mean of him to let the strange squad cult's lies stand abut his family members and his country.

He has a mean streak a mile wide.

Yes. And for me the wake up call to what he truly must be, behind the public image that has long been crafted for him.. was when it dawned on me the sort of person that Meghan is. The fact that he isn't repulsed by her vicious bullying, her laying on the floor crying tantrums. Dim as he undoubtably is, he must be aware of her penchant for lying at least to some extent. Her extreme greed, vulgar tastes, always wanting more and more.. the Queens tiara not being flashy enough her, she wanted another one etc, nothing being good enough. Her horrendous level of social-awkwardness (that part maybe isn't her fault) must've caused him embarrassment at times. What does he think of her when she's berating her staff, leaving them crying at their desks? How can he stand her? That's how I know he's a nasty piece of work, he must enjoy her cruella de vil / verucca salt combination, must have bonded with her over their common love of scheming, hating and attacking. Yes he prizes her for her looks, body etc, possibly the fact that he finds her being American exotic or something, but most men surely like to think their beloved wife is a good person? How is that possible for him? She's a real horror, but he doesn't seem to he horrified.

Does anyone think that there will be a state visit to the US? Trump came here last time. There hasn’t been one in a while.

There must be very few US presidents who have had two different British Monarchs reigning during their time in office. There must be some stats somewhere, but I’m too lazy. I feel Trump would want the photo op.

That will be an interesting one, if the King travels to the US. Imagine the kids seeing their grandfather the king with their US president ….they will never get to be a part of that history now.
Although would raise awkward questions about him seeing Harry and his grandkids.

Given the Labour government’s attitude to Trump - no.

WeCantGoOverIt · 20/01/2025 15:55

Given their keenness to be portrayed as philanthropists, it is surprising that their podcast ideas didn’t seem to go down that route - highlight issues or charities in modern day America or more globally. You would have thought there would be causes and organisations crying out for publicity. Not sure they could do that now though; it would look like they exploiting them for their own benefit.

Is there another series of the Crown though? I thought it was all done and dusted now.

I think it is officially, but I bet the writers and producers have been watching this H&M saga unfold and wondering if they can squeeze another series out.

Rhaidimiddim

If I recall correctly - she was advised by the BRF NOT to mention Harry. But did (to push herself into serious-girlfriend territory).

I agree.
She'd dropped all sorts of childish hints before the VF interview: a "Kiss Me" Love Heart sweet and "Lovehearts in London"; two bananas shoved together with little faces in biro and a "Sleep tight" caption; the H and M necklace...
She was desperate to get the relationship out into the public eye and establish herself as Harry's girlfriend.

I did however notice social media commentators claiming the author of the most recent VF Meghan and Harry article is racist because they used the term bête noire in it …

Dear lord, please save us POC from these thickos!

I agree. For me, the pictures of her at the head of that parade for Invictus, dressed completely inappropriately was just so so crass. I did wonder when on earth he is going to wake up to who she is.

This is a summary from the Bower book.

At the time the interview was given, H&M were engaged, but nobody outside their inner circle knew. The Sunshine Sachs rep who brokered the interview, Keleigh Thomas Morgan knew, but VF did not. She told VF that Meghan would do the interview, but, "she doesn't want a piece about her. It should represent her as a major actor and especially as an activist and a philanthropist". Harry only agreed to Meghan doing the interview because she told him the producers of Suits wanted her to do it to celebrate their 100th show. Bower talks about how Meghan's behaviour at the time was beginning to trouble other Suits actors and her merchandising manager, who said. "She was two characters, one concealed and one fictional, with a baffling tendency to switch from idolising to belittling a friend."

VF assigned the interview to Sam Kashner, an editor who had conducted many high profile interviews. He'd never heard of MM. He was told he couldn't ask her (on Harry's and Sunshine Sachs'orders) about Trump, race, their relationship and Harry himself.

"Kashner watched Meghan prepare lunch..."I baked a cake"... As she darted in and out, pummeling him with questions about his school, marriage and work, Kashner began to sense a reversal in roles. Always conscious of Janet Malcom's quip that journalism is seduction followed by betrayal, he sensed that Meghan was the seductress."

It goes on to say Meghan spun her usual lines about Proctor and Gamble and her UN speech. Kashner said it was hard to know whether she was being genuine.

She then started flirting with him, and Kashner said he felt he was being played. "She knows the marks she wants to hit....She won't hit her goal by being genuine".

Kushner then breaks the rules asking about Harry. Unexpected to him (given the rules) she answers: "We're a couple. We're in love." She goes on with some more talk about their relationship. But she says she's an independent woman who would not be defined by her relationship with Harry.

Then Markus Anderson of Soho House arrives unexpectedly. "I wanted you to meet some of my friends, " explained Meghan. The two engage in incomprehensible conversation. Kashner says he felt he was being played, orchestrated.

After a time, Meghan returned to their conversation and her agenda: her work for women. Kashner was unconvinced. He turns down an offer for Anderson to take him to the airport, "anxious to escape".

Over the next few days he calls those whom MM had recommended as her friends. Serena Williams denied she was Meghan's friend, but just an acquaintance, saying, "You've got to be who you are, Meghan. You can't hide."

It talks about the photoshoot, and how she insisted on being dressed in a way that would win "Palace approval".

"Sunshine Sachs had demanded that the magazine satisfy Meghan's requirement that she be presented as a philanthropist and activist, without considering one problem: VF's scrupulous researchers could find no evidence of Meghan's global philanthropy and activism."

"Reading Kushner's completed interview, VF's editor knew they had a huge coup. " 'We're a couple. We're in love' was guaranteed front page headlines. Meghan's interview took the Royal Family into uncharted waters. Intentionally, she had revealed her master plan."

Previews of the interview are sent out to Sunshine Sachs and BP. Meghan goes mad at SS, saying BP was angry and that they should have made sure her comments about Harry were taken out, and why didn't the interview focus on her philanthropy and activism? Ken Sunshine phones up VF telling them they will have to deal with an angry QEII. "The editor was bemused. Meghan," Ken Sunshine was told, "Didn't get the cover in her own name or as a feminist, but because of who she was likely to marry."

Meghan phones up Kasnher saying they could have been friends but no longer because he had "queered the deal" with Harry. She's angry because of the omission of philanthropy/the P&G commercial, but the VF fact checkers couldn't find any evidence to back up MM's claims which included receiving a letter from Hilary Clinton. The only thing VF agreed to change in the article was the date of H&M's relationship starting, which Bower says was a smokescreen to hide that she was seeing him earlier (in May) when she was still living with Corey Vitiello.

Bower concludes that, on the positive side, Harry remained loyal. Reversing the narrative was impossible. MM had made it clear to BP that she would be unwilling to obey their rules. " The besotted prince ignored the warnings that Meghan spelled trouble for The Palace".

pelargoniums · 20/01/2025 16:13

I suspect Harry now knows and accepts she’s a horror, but can’t get out – it would mean admitting he was wrong and his family was right, and it would mean less access to his children, and the affordability factor (especially if he has to cough up for the court case costs) of running two households to their tastes on his income of nothing plus nothing, carry the nothing… Living and travelling transatlantically too, maybe?

I don’t know if that makes me think less of him or more than if he doesn’t care.

Thedom · 20/01/2025 16:18

@FromTheOfficeOfJammyTodger thank you for that synopsis, its fascinating, I didn't read the book so had no clue the lengths of duplicity she went to to showcase their relationship. She always has an angle.

So romantic. Such a beautiful way of describing a blissful relationship the like of which no two people have ever experienced before ❤️

If he were to live in the UK and fly regularly to LA, he would need to start satisfying himself with first class air tickets (~£10k round trip) rather than private jets (~£300k round trip).

Diana did a great deal of good with her charity work but personally she was a bit of a disaster. Mood swings, emotional outbursts, falling out with people she suspected were betraying her etc etc I can see a lot in Meghan, going by Harry's book, that reminds me of Diana. I don't think she manipulated him into marriage, I think he subconsciously saw the chance to finally save his mum.

It would also explain his firm conviction that Meghan and his family need IPP security, despite there being no evidence that it is necessary. He is trying to rewrite his mother's story with a loyal husband and total safety.

I don't think he can release anything about Harry due to privacy.

JFK and MLK died over 50 years ago so he probably sees that as fair game (not that I agree).
