Both William and Harry aren’t very bright that’s clear to everyone. They’ve both married smart women who help them do better than they would have by themselves. Except in Harry’s case, the smart woman has her own agenda and it’s proving catastrophic for him.

Yes, me too. I also developed some respect for some of Thatcher's personal qualities after reading it. Her conference speech referring to them all being there 'shocked, but composed' I think is pretty impressive. Totally ghastly on the whole, but a woman of backbone, nonetheless. That should be acknowledged.

Absolutely. Compared to the shower of shit we have as MPs these days, give me Thatcher et al any day. And I say this as a coal miner's daughter which no love for the way Thatcher ravaged my home town and its industries, as she did the rest of the industrial north. I'd go back to the '80s in a heartbeat.

@MangshorJhol Forgive my ignorance, I’m not au fait with American mores and standards of personal conduct, but are we to understand that it’s better to be a vicious, unpleasant, nasty, vindictive, narcissistic bitch than a thickie twat?

Whatever makes you rich and successful is better in the US

Interesting.

MangshorJhol · 18/01/2025 21:05

@PigglyWigglyOhYeah No! My American husband would disagree but then he has no clue who Meghan Markle is. What I mean is that (and I am an immigrant here) there is a great belief in hard work here. People admire others with a ‘can do’ attitude. A lot of it is tied into this idea of the American Dream etc. All that is holding you back is effort (ie not systemic factors like poverty). And so Meghan’s earnest re-inventions of herself to get ahead in life aren’t viewed as badly. This is not to say people like fakery or bullying. But having studied at US and UK universities for instance I was always struck by how much my American classmates talked about how hard they worked or were working. Whereas this would be considered a bit gauche in the UK?

MangshorJhol · 18/01/2025 21:07

So in the same vein someone who is thick and isn’t trying to improve themselves is to be despised. You can be thick but what are you doing to better yourself, (rather than rely on your family name), is the general ethos.

Of course this is all rhetoric but within that rhetoric you can see why Harry would come off badly in the VF story to Americans!

itsstillmehere · 18/01/2025 21:09

Most people are going to see the general headlines and think what a pair of twats. They really are not going to delve deeply into all of this.

IcedPurple · 18/01/2025 21:18

This VF article again keeps stressing how nice how Harry is and that he wants to do charity work and not do paid work but get paid somehow. How very like a life as a senior royal that sounds! I feel that this is being set up pave the way to bring him back to the Royal Family.

It will take a lot more than an article in an American magazine to get Harry back into the royal family!

And I disagree that he comes across well. Sure, he has superficial charm in the right circumstances. He was pretty much raised from birth to be able to chat pleasantly with strangers, so it would be strange if he couldn't manage that. However, he comes across as thick, lazy and completely incapable of functioning in the real world. It also says he is Billy no mates and seems to have no interests or passions in life. Not attractive at all.

As for the notion that BP influenced this article, please tell me you're not being serious?

BalloonSlayer · 18/01/2025 21:21

MangshorJhol · 18/01/2025 20:26

@BalloonSlayer Interesting theory. Although it takes as fact that they treated her badly and were racist towards her and that Catherine is an intellectual lightweight.

So my take on it is that Harry isn’t meant to come across as better. In the US at least someone who is vacuous and refuses to work is considered lesser than someone ambitious but a hustler even if they come across as a try hard (aka Meghan). So there might be a transatlantic difference here in how the piece is received.
With my American hat on I thought the piece was not as critical of Meghan as some have suggested and really dismissive of Harry.

@MangshorJhol This shows me up as I have not read the entire article, only the bits highlighted on this thread, so that's definitely food for thought and a lesson for me to read the whole article before pronouncing on it!

IAmATorturedPoet · 18/01/2025 21:24

I'm with @itsstillmehere

I think they are going to be viewed in the same way as Bill Simmons viewed them, 'f*ing grifters'

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 18/01/2025 21:28

Not sure why my last post was deleted, but there we go…

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 18/01/2025 21:29

Interesting that pointing out hypocrisy is ‘xenophobia’, but ok MN. You’re the boss.

Why are positively presented generalisations allowed but not ones whoever is moderating decides to be negative? Just asking…

The Sussex Squad having regrouped on X and are playing their script. As usual they are deflecting. Kate was apparently passed around and known as 'The Mattress' by Williams friends... Ya know, the usual stuff from the Sugars.

Being their usual grubby little selves then.
It's all rather pathetic and desperate.

The sugars are extra sweet today. Sinking ship comes to mind.

Reetpetitenot · 18/01/2025 21:58

Really think Meghan should have a word with her squad and refer them to her 'fact checking Meta' statement. Especially her disappointment at people using social media to 'spread hate, lies and division at the expense of everyone else.'
😁You couldn't make this stuff up.

Can you imagine being someone who thinks this is a perfectly reasonable thing to do? Fucking bonkers.

Exactly.
If @PigglyWigglyOhYeah’s post was deleted because of hypocrisy being called out then that is completely wrong because all of this is completely hypocritical.

I think this is really interesting because I agree that Harry comes across badly in this article too. I thought maybe less badly than Meghan but good to hear an American perspective.

There was a part that discussed Meghan working hard trying to come up with a podcast, but failing and ultimately Archetypes was the suggestion of someone they were working with. I couldn't quite work out what was going on where they said Meghan was watering down the content. It made it sound like she was procrastinating. From my limited experience of Americans, they like clear cut and decisive without British nicety faff. They can be very direct. Do they come across badly from that point of view to an American? I appreciate that I am generalising here.

Atlasvue · 18/01/2025 22:15

The only opinion that matters is Hollywoods, because that’s where they want to make their money and reside in luxury. These superfans are useless to them.

That two well respected industry magazines, release hit pieces on her, means it must be widespread in the industry about her behaviour for VF/HR to be able to speak to so many people and feel confident to print.

They obviously don’t see her as important enough in the industry to protect. I’m sure there are a tonne of directors, producers etc that are a bloody nightmare but the problem is there, lots of people may rely on them for jobs. Meghan n Harry’s production arm, isn’t a big hitter. It’s of not loss to Hollywood if it goes under. They have nothing to lose on reporting about her bullying. Plus they know that they will get huge views.

That’s now her problem. This won’t stop. Until someone comes forward or there is audio/video of her bullying and they are completely cancelled, this will keep coming at them.
We are 18 days in to 2025 …..and she’s already surpassed 2023 and 2024 as her worst years. It’s not going to get better.

Her titles since travelling to the US now include:
fucking grifters
American Hustlers
Disaster Tourist
dictator in heels
mean girl
Instagram Loving Bitch Wife

How many more names does she need before she realises the jig is up?
