Catherine has returned to her public duties and has visited the Royal Marsden hospital today to “show her gratitude to the incredible team, but also highlight the world-leading care and treatment the Marsden provides".

It has been revealed that she attended her chemotherapy appointments at Royal Marsden. She thanked staff and visited patients for approximately an hour. It’s also been released that she will join William in becoming a royal patron of the hospital.

@Mightymoog are you this really this miserable a person?

Thedom · 31/01/2025 20:18

Oh my word, that is heartbreaking and moving and uplifting and tragic, all at the same time, what a wonderful place, what beautiful children and families.

Thank you for sharing wordler

Princess Alice’s life is fascinating and she saved the lives of Jews in WW2 and is buried in Israel. She was treated terribly by people who thought women who did little more than smile and cook were mad.

I once read the absolutely devastating account of what happened to Diana’s monster. She was emotionally and physically abused by Diana’s dad and when she left her dad and stepmum did their utmost to paint her as a mad dangerous woman, and it worked and she lost custody of her kids but never stop fighting for it back. Diana’s stepmum was very cruel to her and her and her siblings missed their mother immensely and begged to be let to see her but their vile dad said no. She Was then panted as “a woman who abandoned their family” and became a figure of hate as Diana’s popularity grew. Also her own mother supported the children being removed from her care

Has anyone read Earl Spencer’s autobiography? I want to read it but might find it upsetting.

Edited

No I’ve not read Earl Spencer’s biography, but I know a bit of how Diana’s mother was treated. It was absolutely awful and I think she must have felt powerless.

I realised I put monster when I meant mother 🤦🏼‍♀️

And yes it’s unimaginable, a mother’s worst nightmare. A horrible reminder that money and privilege means nothing when you’re a woman up against a man

aah, yes. It's not like it would make good PR or anything is it.

I'm fortunate to not be as grimly cynical as this, but to take your comment more seriously than it actually deserves...

An action can be both genuine and spontaneous AND a good PR opportunity - they're not mutually exclusive.

I think it's quite possible that Catherine has matured and grown in confidence over the years - she's now in her early 40s - and feels more at ease and able to be her more relaxed self when inter-acting with people. I imagine in the early years she was very nervous and more focused on not making a faux pas.

She's also a mother of 3 young children and I know that for me (not an obviously maternal person) that gave me huge empathy with children and parents that I hadn't had before. She's probably much more attuned to what children are doing and what they want.

She's been through a tough year and has had a brush with mortality (and we don't really know what the current situation is regarding that). This can give you a) a clearer picture of what's really important in life and b) an 'I don't give a damn - I'm going to do what I think is right even if some people might tut' attitude.

So I think your comment was mean-spirited and very reductionist.

I hope your life is nicer than this comment makes it sound!

RedRosesPinkLilies · 01/02/2025 09:10

@CoffeeCantata good answer.

PigeonDress · 01/02/2025 11:41

It doesn't matter why Catherine made her impromptu walkabout. Her job includes engaging with the public. She no doubt made their day, and all the more sweeter for the meeting not being planned.

I’m not a fan of the Royal Family generally and I favour an elected head of state but I agree with everything said here by CoffeeCantata.

No reasonable person can criticise Catherine for going to visit a children’s hospice surely, or imply that the purpose of the visit is less than genuine? Especially given her own recent experience of cancer. And I can’t imagine that it was an easy visit either. What do you say to parents in that terrible situation?

If we have to have a RF, this is exactly the sort of work they should be focusing on imho. Especially in light of the recent reporting about lack of funding for hospices, which has been highlighted by the recent assisted dying debates.

Please donate to your local hospices everyone! They do such great work!

When you think about it, it's pretty disgraceful that hospices are not properly funded by government. Ditto air ambulances and RNLI, which get no government money at all.

Jacquette · 02/02/2025 01:45

Donating is a great idea.

So is writing to government ministers demanding adequate government funding.

Could not agree more NormaMajors1992coat!

However did this situation come about?

Talk about skewed priorities!

Kensington Palace have released this photo of Catherine taken by Prince Louis in order to mark World Cancer Day tomorrow.

Catherine wrote: “Don’t forget to nurture all that which lies beyond the disease. C”

Why do we need another photo of Kate? All this schmaltzy cancer heroine stuff is a bit nauseating.

Because it’s World Cancer Day tomorrow and she has had cancer and it’s her account?

Plus, we’ve all seen what happens when she isn’t seen for periods of time (ie the whole ‘where is Kate’ drama)

When she first announced she had cancer and then took a break she was widely criticized by people on here because they felt she should have been doing more because of her role to use her diagnosis to help other people and highlight the issues around the disease.

She honestly can’t win!

Has there been a thread about her Chanel bag on Holocaust Memorial Day? Or was that not true?

Because of Coco Chanel's Nazi ties?

Or because the owners of Chanel Alain and Gérard Wertheimer, whose grandfather co-created Chanel with Coco, are Jewish. Making it another accessory made by a Jewish company?

Anyone with a remote idea of the complexity of experience of those living under Nazi occupation in France and elsewhere, never mind the history of Coco Chanel, will regard this remark with the contempt it deserves.

CurlewKate · 03/02/2025 17:43

@BigWillyLittleTodger "
"You really love to shit stir where Catherine is concerned don’t you? On every thread you participate in, how about you come out and say what you really mean with the above question?"

I mean that whoever dresses her should have known better than to let her carry a bag with a very prominent logo of a notorious Nazi collaborator at such an event. Not suggesting for a moment that she did it knowingly. Most people who wear Chanel don't know the company's history. Someone should have told her.

To quote a well worn phrase you really should educate yourself, maybe start with reading @wordler post.

Ghastly

Serenster · 03/02/2025 18:05

Had Chanel the brand been cancelled now? Does no Jewish person wear it? I must have missed that, if so.

It’s not just me who has missed it, I think, as the woman who escorted King Charles through the gates at Auschwitz last week also had a Chanel bag. Perhaps CurlewKate could track her down and tell her how wrong she was, too?

hopeishere · 03/02/2025 18:12

I agree, whomever dresses her should have said "are you sure about the bag?" They are being paid - presumably- to keep her away from potential criticism like this.

Ditto when she wore a rented dress to the earthshot awards - it appeared tokenistic.

I like today's pic and the message.
