Catherine has returned to her public duties and has visited the Royal Marsden hospital today to “show her gratitude to the incredible team, but also highlight the world-leading care and treatment the Marsden provides".

It has been revealed that she attended her chemotherapy appointments at Royal Marsden. She thanked staff and visited patients for approximately an hour. It’s also been released that she will join William in becoming a royal patron of the hospital.

Not necessarily. Being able to talk to and connect with those who are going through the same experience as you is extremely valuable. Why else do you think people form “survivors” groups and such like for many different life events? Why do parents of children with life limiting conditions go to hospices etc where they can meet others in the same situation? Material help is obviously a bonus but it is being with those who understand your experience that is most valuable to you

Support through chatting is helpful. I think that many people would swap waiting for a bus, standing up, carrying a bag in case of sick etc for the way her care was organised. Hopefully she had psychological support.

I’ve been through a fair bit of chemo - going today. The chairs in our ward are so far apart you couldn’t chat to anyone, even if you wanted to. It’s always different patients too - so it would be light chat for hours. Which is just a strain.

you don’t know if someone wants to chat.

Even though we all have cancer - we are all in different situations. Mine is terminal, someone else’s chemo might save their life.

This is the reason I don’t get the camaraderie angle. It’s not a simple situation, and I’ve got enough to do supporting myself emotionally- without taking on a stranger.

Theres good support online - eg mumsnet itself - where you can engage with the same people, who you also know to be roughly in the same situation

Im glad Kate’s doing well. I hope it continues.

I don’t think she’s necessarily had better hospital care. If being isolated in a side room for afew hours is your thing then yes. At my place if there’s a single room available they will put you in it but ask you first. We can talk to each other on the ward but really we don’t unless we’ve seen each other before. We also get free massages and I have reflexology available to all with cancer in my trust. I imagine she was offered the same. The only thing that she had better than me is full time staff😀 so that makes a huge difference.

im sorry to hear of your experiences regarding the nhs and appointments and messing beds up. I’ve been lucky in that respect. One thing cancer teaches you is to advocate for yourself.

My only disappointment and, it’s a big one, they can’t find the primary the origin of my cancer which has affected my treatment plan. It really sucks and can be very isolating.

No matter how famous , wealthy you are , having a close knit family around you is probably your greatest strength.

My dh had scans and a colonoscopy every year for five years after a cancerous polyp was found in his colon. That was scary but what was really scary was at the end of the five years facing the thought that the next colonoscopy was five years away. He had it last year and all was fine but the fear truly is always lurking in the background.

My Dh is on the same path but only 2 years in and i am already worried about him not being checked every year. It is terrifying.

Before you even get to that stage, I was reading how Kate felt how she felt when her chemotherapy port was removed.

dottydodah · 15/01/2025 12:12

drivinmecrazy Hi ,good news about Kate,I too was diagnosed with Cancer around the same time.have undergone 6 rounds of Chemo. As Kate says quite gruelling .Have 3 month checks and scans ATM.

dottydodah · 15/01/2025 12:23

Also didnt really chat much to others patients .We are all a bit tired, and chemo takes it out of you.Sort of Bays with reclining beds , people say Hi and smile thats all really.Often have a little nap!

I'm sorry you are going through that

Before you even get to that stage, I was reading how Kate felt how she felt when her chemotherapy port was removed.

I read that too, that she hesitated when they told her it could come out now. It says everything about how a patient feels about the permanent threat of cancer and their fears for the future.

I just want to send thoughts and best wishes to everyone undergoing treatment or with a loved one who is, or has.

Is that an aspinal bag anyone know? It’s very nice. Birthday coming up - just saying. Glad to hear she’s on the mend.
@drivinmecrazy 🥰

It is the Morgan small handbag from Asprey, and it would make a lovely birthday present 🙂

EachandEveryone · 15/01/2025 15:47

Have you seen the price of it?😮

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 15/01/2025 15:59

Will take a look! Thank you

Maybe not 😢🤦🏻‍♀️
I’d be better off waiting for a windfall and try and grab a vintage Hermes. Unlikely as well!

I once, many years ago, saw a Hermes Birkin on Ebay. It certainly seemed to be real (so many aren't) and was ££££

What tickled me was a line in the description

"Offers of partners as a partial trade will not be accepted".

Jacquette · 24/01/2025 22:57

I saw some pictures of Catherine out shopping in Notting Hill. Kate’s looking strong and well and she does winter smart -casual dressing well. Chic Catherine on shopping trip

itsstillmehere · 24/01/2025 23:50

She has good taste! All my glasses are from there but I go to the Soho branch. 😂

Just seen the news. She said it was nice to go in through the front door for once, quite clear that during her treatment she was (understandably) smuggled in. Another layer of stress which most of us don't have to think about and can't have helped.

Great that she's going to be a patron with William.

Didn't know that.

drivinmecrazy · 14/01/2025 14:15

I was diagnosed shortly after she made the video confirming she had cancer.

It means such a lot that she's been as open as she has been while respecting her family's privacy.

It has had a huge impact for me.

I don't think there is anything negative to be said about her visit

This is lovely and it’s so important to be representative of cancer sufferers.

Before KC3 and Catherine were diagnosed I used to muse how the RF never seemed to have any members experience cancer. But not I figure maybe they did and under the staunch “No one needs to know our business” reign of QE2 we never knew. I like this more open, but not too open, approach of KC3 & co.

My claim to fame is that a very close friend is one of the founders of Finlay and DH and I both had one of the first 100 pairs produced.

Good to see Catherine and William at the Holocaust memorial event in London this evening. She met with some of the people she’d previously photographed.

itsstillmehere · 27/01/2025 20:47

@PermanentlyFreezing they are an excellent brand - very high quality.

Thedom · 27/01/2025 21:26

Williams speech detailing Prince Philips mother hiding a Jewish family was really interesting and a lovely piece of history. Love Catherines pearl necklace, they are such a striking couple.

ssd · 28/01/2025 08:59

Catherine is looking fantastic, her warm personality comes through every time.
