Just seen on Sky News. Breaking News headlines. Delayed because of the wild fires didn't say if this was technical difficulties or it would be a bit crass to launch a frothy type lifestyle show with all the devastation. Anyway it might be shelved for good with any luck.

Sussex Squad

Viviennemary · 19/01/2025 20:14

Yes but what are they. A website? Are they like friends of Harry and Meghan.

I have no idea how they started and have only come across them on twitter. They seem to be a group of people who idolise Meghan and have bonded online over their fandom. When I was on twitter a lot of them seemed to be very young.

There are many fan groups like this on social media. I've always wondered how they come together. I assume that they have a restricted group online somewhere where they chat behind the scenes of their public posts.

Can it be proven that there is a SS on a payroll? Would it not be easy to ‘sign up’ to receive these instructions? I can well believe there are paid bots but I’m a bit sceptical of an organised, paid SS.

The revelations in the recent Blake Lively / Justin Baldoni case really shine a light on how this is done in celeb PR circles.

It's not random members of the public signing up to be paid for posting, it's specific companies that specialise in social media seeding - they plant employees across various social media platforms and comment sections to push a narrative or agenda that supports the person who is funding the campaign. There are less and more sophisticated ways this can be done, and though I don't know the full extent of it, I'm sure it involves some "reaching out" to real profiles who have shown themselves to be sympathetic and incentivising them to up the ante, as well as ensuring that some profiles also post other types of content as well so they get through filters put in place to weed out bad actors or bots.

There will of course be genuine fans in the mix as well, but the paid support prompts stories, inflames emotions and steers the narrative.

It's rife in politics now too - you have to be so careful with what you read and choose to believe online, as misinformation and propaganda on certain issues is spread at scale in a very coordinated, well funded and sophisticated way.

That’s absolutely terrifying.

That’s absolutely terrifying.

You can often spot it via the hashtags - and similar language and phrases used.

The less sophisticated ones just copy and paste the same exact paragraphs between different accounts.

A lot of the worst Sussex Squad content though comes from genuine ‘fans’ and the stuff they come out with a lot of the time is absolutely unhinged and nasty.

They are not unique there are many fandoms like this which turn nasty - the SS is the first one I’ve ever really paid attention to.

Viviennemary · 19/01/2025 20:14

I’ll try and keep this as succinct as possible!
The Sussex Squad are a network of (usually unhinged and delusional) supporters. They are prolific on SM and have a podcast and I think they also have a YouTube channel.
The problem with them being that they bully, harass and abuse people who speak out against the couple. It’s an extremely organised group, with leaders who have worked at Google HQ (Sarah Data), own bot companies (Bouzy and Ian Sexton) and it filters down like a pyramid. Journalists and executives are involved also and money is exchanged.
People such as Sean Lennon have received death threats. Charities have been targeted and journalists, sacked, doxxed and hounded. It is cult like and the worst of it is that Meghan and Harry are in touch with them, thank them and take them along on their faux tours etc (Peace Adetoro for example).
They orchestrate a coordinated campaign of hate.

Viviennemary · 19/01/2025 20:38

That sounds as if it is bordering on criminal activity.

OP posts:
MummyJ12 · 19/01/2025 20:42

It is but it is international so I suppose jurisdiction is difficult. One member was in court recently but I don’t know what the outcome was.
One member has just had her TikTok account and X accounts suspended because of the hate against Catherine. (Because, their constant target is Catherine and they were the origin of all of the crazed conspiracy theories about her).

MummyJ12 · 19/01/2025 20:45

This is an article about them, written by Jack Royston who usually supports the Sussexes.

The Middletons are a lesson in discretion and class

The Middletons are a seemingly forgotten lesson in the playing of a financial disaster.

But hey. Willy got his cheese toasties so all good ✌

I’m sorry but bullying and harassing is exactly what the SS do but yet you can’t see that. It’s bizarre

Well considering everyone who talks about the SS on here point to X being the platform they use to make comments then no I won't see them since I don't use X. So no I can't comment on what I haven't seen for myself.

It's not bizarre at all, lots of people don't engage with X or other social media platforms.

I literally just posted above that the SS have a YouTube channel and podcast. So you’re wrong on this point.

And you of course completely missed the point of the post you quoted. Standard.

Just in case anyone is reading.

I have no morals and would gladly be paid to manipulate threads and social media posts.

Sounds like my dream job 😂

Well i didn't see your post 🤷 i don't read every post just the last few when I come on here. So okay they use YouTube, I mean you have to be specifically looking for it because the only time I use it is for diy videos and never come across their channel. And podcasts? I'm not a podcast person much prefer to listen to music and I only use soundcloud not Spotify etc.

Look some of us don't use other platforms that much okay so to your comment to me earlier about eh SS, no I haven't seen anything they have said as I don't frequent those places often or actively go looking for it. So yes I will not be making a comment on something I haven't seen.

So what's your point then?

I couldn't tell you whether there are or not but there's plenty of apologists for them!

I don’t see anyone apologizing for much on here.

In fact, I'd think salty old MN would be a target site.
But who knows...

I meant for the SS but H&M too, seeing as you mention them. yes them too.

And here's a definition of the word, "apologist" for you.

apologist
/əˈpɒlədʒɪst/

noun

a person who offers an argument in defence of something controversial.

You're welcome.

But, but, but, but , but ....

JandamiHash · 20/01/2025 01:52

NRTFT so I may be repeating what someone else has said.

I couldn’t really say I’m missing out by Meghan delaying her show. I didn’t plan on watching it. But it irks me because it just plays into the US-centric tunnel vision that not only makes so many Americans unbearable (especially when it comes to their attitude during natural disasters), but was a contributing factor to why she didn’t fit in as a Royal - but rather than acknowledging that she blamed others for seemingly not fitting in with her California ideas of how people should be.

Firstly onto the wildfires - it’s of course tragic and heartbreaking and no matter how wealthy you are watching your house burn to the ground must be one of the worst experiences a person could face. But the way so many Americans behave like Californians are the first ever people to experience a natural disaster - and even worse, the celebrity millionaires crying on social media even though they can buy a new house anywhere int he world tomorrow - is why the rest of the world has a disposition to dislike them. The hiring of private firefighters is deplorable. There are far more people in the world who don’t have a pot to piss on who have watched their homes perish, and the rest of the world isn’t expected to stand still and collectively mourn. But apparently California is worthy of delaying a Netflix show?

The wildfires are just one of MANY disasters happening in the world right now. And Meghan’s show is not one only being broadcast in California. It will be shown in the UK, Spain, Poland, Africa - California will absorb a tiny proportion of viewing figures. But in delaying it worldwide because of a disaster in California is assuming the rest of the world and viewing population is just as upset and distraught about California as she is. It’s expecting everyone to collectively grieve for what she is grieving for when actually people have their own problems and unless the wildfires affect you or someone you know, you can be forgiven for not giving a shit.

It’s what Americans with no idea what the world outside their own state looks like tend to do - you know the ones who say “I’m from California, I’m a hugger” (were we expected to know what a California disposition is like?!) and anyone who isn’t a hugger is cold and stiff - and it’s a deeply unlikable trait.

My twopenny worth….
Looking in to my crystal ball, in 10 years, at 50, Harry will be in the style of Earl Spencer.
Back in England in a country estate. Quiet but occasional statements at times about mum. Lurid love life, first family living on a different continent and the kids intermittently in the spotlight for their titles and connections. Seemingly settled second life with new wife and more kids….
But essentially a sideshow.
