PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 09/01/2025 19:47

Meghan and Harry have released a statement in regards to the California wildfire via their Sussex.com website.

It reads:

”In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighborhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers, and so much more – affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life.
A state of emergency has been issued.
If you feel compelled to help, here are some resources and ideas:
Support
Organizations such as José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen, which has been a longtime partner of The Archewell Foundation, are serving meals to both first responders and victims of the fire.
CAL FIRE and LA Fire Department Foundation and others are working closely to support firefighters who risk their lives, bravely showing up in these high-risk environments to help save homes, families, and communities in need.
Animal Wellness Foundation is continuing to house and care for animals evacuated by the fires while Compton Cowboys is providing emergency transportation services for horses.
Airbnb and 211LA have partnered to provide free, temporary housing for those who have been displaced.

Baby2baby is providing essential supplies including diapers, clothing, hygiene products, and emergency kits to families in need.
All Power Books and many others are staying open for emergency use, offering supplies and water for pickup while working tirelessly to distribute essentials to those affected.

Open your home
If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a safe haven in your home, please do. And be sure to check in with any disabled or elderly neighbors to see if they need help evacuating.
Give back
Some families and people have been left with nothing. Please consider donating clothing, children’s toys & clothing, and other essentials. The American Red Cross is on the ground helping those in need.”

Helping animals helps us all.

Non-profit organization leading in animal rescue, animal protection and awareness; and low-cost medical care. Adopt, volunteer and foster opportunities available!

You mean they walked and did not talk to every single person there?

Indeed they marched past these 4 people one of whom stood up as they came along and stormed off. There is a very obvious contrast between their own cameras and what they filmed and what others saw. For their cameras it's " on" but once they are switched off it's "no".

Not this again!
Are you saying Jennifer Garner wasn't volunteering in her local community of Palisades?

No I am saying she also went out of her community to go help another community therefore why isn't she also being criticised for that like people are ceiricins H&M for helping another community.

I don't doubt she also helped her community where she lives but she also went and helped others. So are we going to have double standards here where it's okay Jennifer can travel 1hr and help out a community she doesn't live in but if other people do its wrong, get called vulture tourists?

itsstillmehere · 14/01/2025 21:05

"
And for those criticisng it's 2hrs away if you call up an organisation (one you have worked with before) and say hey how can we help and the response is we need help at x location then that is where you go if you can."

So many posts on here like this one reeking of desperation.

It's not desperation, its the double standards Then again I wouldn't criticise anyone for volunteering their time to help other people or how much they donate or how much time they spend volunteering their time.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 15/01/2025 00:05

Of all the criticism they have received this is the one that must cut them deep the most, it’s her own people, her home countrymen and women calling them out as an disaster tourists, can’t blame the horrendous royal family for this one and as for her silly show that’s now completely dead in the water delay or no delay.

Truthfully if I was Meghan I would think fuck it. No more volunteering or trying to help others.

If I were Meghan, I'd seek out some professional advice to overhaul my imagine if I wanted to remain in the public eye, which I assume she does!

MerryMaker · 15/01/2025 01:17

@mainecooncatonahottinroof or maybe she will go fuck it and make money ditching all the dirt on the Royal family? If you are going to get shit whatever you do, why not lean into it? And she could make some serious money doing that.

You more than doubted it yesterday, you categorically stated Jennifer wasn't volunteering in her own Palisades community. Sources were subsequently provided showing that you were in fact incorrect about that. So I was surprised that you brought it up again on this thread.

Anyway now you agree she was actually helping in her own community we don't really need to discuss it any further.

I doubt she would have that much to dish after all the time she spent as a royal. It would probably be along the lines of she was offered too many sausages, and she is outraged because of course she doesn't eat sausages...!

Anyway this has absolutely zilch to do with the royals. This is all her own doing; she can't blame them this time!! The royals aren't giving her shit; her fellow countrymen and women are! It's not even the nasty British media!!

Incidentally, hasn't the RF played a blinder in dealing with them? The late Queen was a very wise woman. "Never complain never explain" has worked a treat!

Not addressed to me but.....

1.I would feel very sorry for her children if she decided to do that.
2.She had better make it 100% accurate and bring receipts (doesn't have great form on that front) or very deep pockets.
3.She was only there a short time so I can't imagine she's going to bring down the monarchy (although I expect in her grandiose mind she believes she can)

Other than that, crack on.

@mainecooncatonahottinroof and absolute blinder, grey rock all the way. Harry and Meghan's frustration at this has been palpable at times.

It's the old 'Give them enough rope....'

BigWillyLittleTodger · 15/01/2025 01:52

I expect she will at some point, though what ‘dirt’ she actually has is debatable, I don’t imagine she was party to much, for a start she was hardly part of the family for long, I doubt that she spent much time with any of them and not one single member would have taken her into their confidence, the only people she could ‘dish the dirt’ on would be William and Catherine though we’ve heard about all that silly nonsense already through Harry, though I’m sure she would like to put her own twist on matters. No doubt she could make a lot of money with her tale of woe, but would it be a wise move? personally I think it would be foolhardy and after the initial flurry of attention it would end up in the bargain bins like Spare, she has seen first hand how Harry was a complete laughing stock when it came out, she would suffer the same fate, is she as daft as her husband? Time will tell.

I used to get frustrated at the RF not responding but now I can really see how wise they are, sit back with their popcorn and watch the demise from a safe distance.

I didn't categorically state she wasn't helping where she lived. The point was always back to she helped in a community that wasn't hers so why the double standards. Noone criticisng her for it and you know what as per usual when the double standards are pointed out thebusual lets deflect, tell the poster no more discussion etc.

So let's here it feom you then if you think it's not right for H&M to go to a community that they don't live in and help, then do you also agree it's not right for Jennifer to go to a community she doesn't live in and help?

Let's hear it from all of you who have yes or no is Jennifer also wrong to do that?

As I posted above on the thread, Meghan has herself stressed that she is a 'commuter' to Los Angeles and not a resident.

These are her own words in to Variety magazine, published in October 2022:

'It's funny. People sometimes think we live in Los Angeles, but we're a good two hours outside of it. We're commuters. We drove down recently for a day of back-to-back meetings, equipped with chocolate chip cookies the size of my toddler's head. Also, my husband's favorite is In-N-Out. There's one at the halfway point between L.A. and our neck of the woods. It's really fun to go through the drive-thru and surprise them. They know our order.'

Jennifer Garner lived in and around the area for 25 years, she was able to point out personal memories of the street they were standing on, the gong in the garden of that house 'right there' which all the kids loved to hit, the playground her kids played in, the fire engine driving down the road for the 4th July parade they watched every year, the church they went to every sunday, the coffees afterwards with the congregation.

It was a very personal account, she was no grief tourist. ,

Edited

Here come the excuses as predicted.

Well Meghan was born and raised in LA so lived there just as long, believe she was filming Suits in Canada so likley moved out of LA for that when she was 29. And she has moved back and been back k for almost 5yrs.

So she also has personal memories of her.time from growing up. You don't know what meghan said to people since there isn't footage of everything they did and said the entire time but given she was born and raised its person for me to.

So as you were before you tried to deflect again....now they are both having in LA for 25yrs both have personal memories...so yes or no?

Thedom · 15/01/2025 06:01

As to whomever said they should spill the beans again to make money, i think that ship has sailed, they had a huge amount of sympathy before Oprah and Netflix and Spare, that has been eroded to the point they are not taken seriously and they are viewed with derision, even by people who don't follow the RF. No one would pay them even a quarter of what they earned first time around for denigrating their family.

They initially claimed their reason for not disclosing the alleged 'racist', was because they believed they would do untold damage to that person, in fact when they eventually disclosed who they were alleging were racists, it actually backfired on them, it was their own reputation they damaged even further, very few gave it any validity at all, they were generally disbelieved and it again confirmed how malicious they act, Catherine and Charles received plenty of commiserations and sympathy as a result of that slur being thrown at them. .

Thedom · 15/01/2025 06:26

i think the main point, and the one most people are disgusted by, is they showed up with an entourage consisting of assistants, multiple bodyguards and a camera crew, they clamoured over burnt out vehicles, they walked over the ashes of someones home and life, they had a guided tour set up for them, very few believe they are genuine, they have a reputation for performative grandstanding and photo opportunities.

Somewhat siimilar to the photo shoot they did at the cemetery for Fallen Soldiers on Remembrance day a few years ago, distasteful and self serving..

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 15/01/2025 06:29

The thing is their visit could be genuine but their past behaviour is what makes people question current behaviour. The fact that it’s Americans calling them out could be a problem for them I think. But people have short memories so it may work out for them eventually. Meghan is a trier and isn’t easily defeated so I think she’ll be ok.

Spectre8 · 15/01/2025 06:35

More what about...it's a simple question.
If people point was the neourtage then why have they only said in their criticism that it's awful they drove 2hrs to a community they don't live in. I've seen more comments about them going then about their entourage.

So I'm interested to see if they will also criticise another celebrity (Jennifer) for doing the same because if don't then really your not criticisng someone you are doing bitchinf about them as you don't like them. Okay for someone else not okay for them.

'They know our order' - how embarrassing.

I know - at In-N-Out Burgers, known for its fast-food burgers, fries, sodas and shakes.

This was Meghan trying to stress their commuter status, i.e. establishing that she and H firmly belonged in the exclusive postcode of wealthy Montecito and not Los Angeles. She had left LA behind. She had moved on.

'Commuter' was not an accidental word. Meghan was making a point. I imagine the In-N-Out anecdote was supposed to make them nevertheless seem relatable?
