Sussexes statement about Californian wildfires

Meghan and Harry have released a statement in regards to the California wildfire via their Sussex.com website.

It reads:

”In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighborhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers, and so much more – affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life.
A state of emergency has been issued.
If you feel compelled to help, here are some resources and ideas:
Support
Organizations such as José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen, which has been a longtime partner of The Archewell Foundation, are serving meals to both first responders and victims of the fire.
CAL FIRE and LA Fire Department Foundation and others are working closely to support firefighters who risk their lives, bravely showing up in these high-risk environments to help save homes, families, and communities in need.
Animal Wellness Foundation is continuing to house and care for animals evacuated by the fires while Compton Cowboys is providing emergency transportation services for horses.
Airbnb and 211LA have partnered to provide free, temporary housing for those who have been displaced.

Baby2baby is providing essential supplies including diapers, clothing, hygiene products, and emergency kits to families in need.
All Power Books and many others are staying open for emergency use, offering supplies and water for pickup while working tirelessly to distribute essentials to those affected.

Open your home
If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a safe haven in your home, please do. And be sure to check in with any disabled or elderly neighbors to see if they need help evacuating.
Give back
Some families and people have been left with nothing. Please consider donating clothing, children’s toys & clothing, and other essentials. The American Red Cross is on the ground helping those in need.”

Maybe those who are checking their properties were among the first to be affected? It's such a fast moving situation though maybe it's just people who've managed to get through despite the restrictions.

Meghan being called Mother Meghan of Montecito on Fox News who state that it's obvious these visits were an obvious attempt to boost her status. That's a bit uncomfortable !

If she had done nothing, she would have been criticised

Maybe if they hadn’t issued the grandiose statement from their ( non existent) office and maybe if they hadn’t travelled 100+ miles with bodyguards and assistants , not to mention photographers and maybe if they had waited until things settled a bit rather than being given a guided tour by someone who should have been doing more important things , then they wouldn’t have been criticised?

I wondered that. But I have seen people at burnt out houses where there are other houses still smouldering very nearby. And there don't seem to be any restrictions at all. Ditto journalists. But it's not so much restrictions I was thinking about but the residual heat.

I've seen some people near smouldering houses too. I suppose in such a complex and fast moving situation things get a bit messy. It's all just stressful and no where near over.

Do you think so? Why? Is she important to LA? Look at the hundreds of people who have not visited? Have they been criticised?

Other options are available between the extremes of “do nothing” and “this badly managed PR disaster”.

I think she’s trying to suggest that there were no possible courses of action other than what they did (and have been criticised for) and doing nothing.

That is of course not the cases

Look at what eg Beyoncé and Jamie Lee Care doing, and you’ll easily see how different approaches can be effective and not attract criticism

And also pleased that Pearl being cancelled, The Bench getting lacklustre reviews and Archetypes not being renewed and their Spotify contract being cancelled didn’t knock her confidence at all. Just the Royal family….

A few people on mumsnet isn't anything compared to having your faces on American newspapers with the title of disaster tourists during devastating fires. Those people who hadn't made their minds up about them, for Meghan her potential viewers reading that. Bearing in mind they are quoting an actress the press didn't have to repeat they chose to and knew exactly what they were doing. Their reasoning for the visit doesn't really matter it was stupidity and anyone who doesn't see that needs to take off their rose tinted glasses. No one wants to be called a vulture. Had they not gone it would the same as the meta a over grandiose statement but harmless enough.
