Meghan and Harry have released a statement in regards to the California wildfire via their Sussex.com website.

It reads:

”In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighborhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers, and so much more – affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life.
A state of emergency has been issued.
If you feel compelled to help, here are some resources and ideas:
Support
Organizations such as José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen, which has been a longtime partner of The Archewell Foundation, are serving meals to both first responders and victims of the fire.
CAL FIRE and LA Fire Department Foundation and others are working closely to support firefighters who risk their lives, bravely showing up in these high-risk environments to help save homes, families, and communities in need.
Animal Wellness Foundation is continuing to house and care for animals evacuated by the fires while Compton Cowboys is providing emergency transportation services for horses.
Airbnb and 211LA have partnered to provide free, temporary housing for those who have been displaced.

Baby2baby is providing essential supplies including diapers, clothing, hygiene products, and emergency kits to families in need.
All Power Books and many others are staying open for emergency use, offering supplies and water for pickup while working tirelessly to distribute essentials to those affected.

Open your home
If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a safe haven in your home, please do. And be sure to check in with any disabled or elderly neighbors to see if they need help evacuating.
Give back
Some families and people have been left with nothing. Please consider donating clothing, children’s toys & clothing, and other essentials. The American Red Cross is on the ground helping those in need.”

Helping animals helps us all.

Non-profit organization leading in animal rescue, animal protection and awareness; and low-cost medical care. Adopt, volunteer and foster opportunities available!

Tbf I believe she was written out of Suits because of her relationship, not the other way round. But it was a show with an end in sight and nothing else lined up, hence the trip to London.

No, her co star, who was the main actor in the show and her onscreen love interest, decided to leave the show. So she was written out along with him.

Bloody hell, the amount of expensive jewellery that Meghan and J Newsom are jingle-jangling on their wrists while doing the square root of fuck all is not a good look. Couldn't they have left it at home in their safes with the other stuff?

MaturingCheeseball · 14/01/2025 10:11

The photo (with Meghan in the middle of course) is not a good look. It’s not a jolly day out. Meghan is a nobody and Harry looks like a surplus fool. They must have such a high opinion of themselves and the hides of a herd of rhinos to drive to a disaster area (carefully attired in baseball-cap chic) - and with a photographer conveniently on hand.

Rather than complaining about being offended by the Bateman article why not counter with details of the dates and times they were pitching in to help? And what they donated and when/ where. A factual rebuttal. Granted how litigious they are why not a defamation suit? On another note, would not selling their children's toys raise an awful lot of much needed money rather than just donating the toys themselves? It seems likely that a fair number of people would pay handsomely for the kudos of having the Sussex's toys. Celebrity auctions are a well established fund raising route. Such steps would also be proof to refute the accusations of simply being self serving disaster tourists

You can't have it both ways. They are either complete nonentities nobody cares about or celebrities that could raise money by auctioning their children's toys! 🤣

Here's the archived version where you can read Maureen Callahan's MailOnline article for free.

archive.ph/VaspY

That's quite the article!

ChimneyRock · 14/01/2025 11:02

The source in that New York Times article said the visit was meant to be incognito. The presence of their PR and Comms team, along with a camera crew indicates otherwise.

In contrast, Beyoncé’s foundation started a fire-specific fund and donated $2.5m dollars, announcing this on Instagram with a simple message, which included the link to the BeyGOOD foundation and putting the link in bio. When you click the linktree the fire fund is right there, very easy.

Simple messaging, simple action from them and quick follow-through to set up the scheme, admin and social media. A masterclass in what H&M should have done!

Though I suspect they can’t – I don’t think they have much liquid money left but they’re seen to have money. I doubt they can personally afford $2.5m and Archewell can’t, so they’ve subbed in their presence at the seen in lieu of a donation – it’s interesting that all the “sources say” stuff is vague about how much money they’ve donated, who they’re sheltering in their house in Montecito.

Where did I say they were nobodies? Or even anything like it?

That’s a good action. It’s clear what’s been donated. Where can this cash donation information be found on Harry and Megan’s websites?

ChimneyRock · 14/01/2025 11:37

So, can someone explain? When it is said that "they" have donated funds, does that actually mean that "Archewell" has donated and Archewell's pot consists of money donated by third sources, not H&M themselves?

Mylovelygreendress · 14/01/2025 11:43

Apparently a red flag warning has been issued to Montecito .

queenofarles · 14/01/2025 12:59

Just a thought, the backlash they are getting atm is not aimed at them personally. It’s the Royal persona they still dearly cling too,
special treatments , Exclusive walkabouts , Camera crew , , handing out food front center next to Newsoms wife, pointless statements and so on. This doesn’t sit well with Californians at the moment.

But the actual Royals don’t do that as has been said several times here. They hold back until they are not going to get in the way (recent events at Southport being an example) and then they often just offer moral support and a listening ear. So this is about the Sussexes cosplaying their version of Royal behaviour and woefully missing the mark

CurlewKate · 14/01/2025 13:16

The "real" royal family do photo ops too, of course.

BemusedAmerican · 14/01/2025 13:42

At the appropriate time and it's better managed. Go ahead and tell the hundreds of thousands of displaced California residents that it's OK for H & M to be standing on their burnt cars as I saw in one photo online but they can't go back to see if their pet survived.

Ah fine, that makes sense. It’s just that I remember hearing about how they had to work her departure into the storyline. But that might have been from Harry in Spare so possibly not the most reliable.

Also, why the poor kids’ toys? There’s quite a lot of jewellery that could go first.

I have never said they were nonentities
God knows where that came from. Confused with someone else perhaps ? It seems reasonable to assume these were unwanted toys rather than those snatched from their hands. But I agree the jewellery would be more valuable

Heartbreaking 💔
Let’s just hope there will be a few happy endings like this😭❤️

"saw in one photo online but they can't go back to see if their pet survived."

One thing I find intriguing is how people
do seem to be able to go back to check on their property. There are loads of videos on line of people finding things in the ruins of their houses. I would have thought it would still be too hot/too unsafe. Do you know anything about it? Assuming that you get more information than we do....

JanuaryCrow · 14/01/2025 15:13

And just a couple of years ago, Meghan was telling Variety magazine about life in their 'neck of the woods', Montecito. In the interview Meghan said: 'It’s funny. People sometimes think we live in Los Angeles, but we’re a good two hours outside of it. We’re commuters.'

Commuters. Her word.

I’ve been reading in a few places, about the insurance problem in California, that’s been going on a while now. It’s only going to get worse I suppose.

Seemigly unless you have a structure over 10 million, then it’s becoming more difficult to get a policy. Even then, you’re talking sky high prices and that’s before these wildfires.

In the article it says a woman about to sign off on a $30 million dollar mansion tried to renegotiate when she found out her insurance would be $200,000 a year!

https://robbreport.com/shelter/homes-for-sale/wildfires-raising-home-insurance-rates-1235618129/

Montecito is high risk for fire and mudslides. The insurance costs must be insane for Harry and Meghan, particularly being in a high risk area, with a huge garden with lots of trees, up on the hills.

Property taxes $150k year, electricity probably for a home that size with a/c $80k, water $$$$$s, full time staff for the property $300/400k, insurance $150k, maintenance $50-100k

So looks close to a million dollars a year to keep that house in a very high risk area. Not even mentioned security and their other costs.

It looks beautiful but long term I don’t think they can afford this lifestyle. Insurance prices are going to sky rocket too, if you can even get a policy.

I guess there will be the knock on of property prices tanking? And those with heavy mortgages looking at negative equity?
