Meghan and Harry have released a statement in regards to the California wildfire via their Sussex.com website.

It reads:

”In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighborhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers, and so much more – affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life.
A state of emergency has been issued.
If you feel compelled to help, here are some resources and ideas:
Support
Organizations such as José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen, which has been a longtime partner of The Archewell Foundation, are serving meals to both first responders and victims of the fire.
CAL FIRE and LA Fire Department Foundation and others are working closely to support firefighters who risk their lives, bravely showing up in these high-risk environments to help save homes, families, and communities in need.
Animal Wellness Foundation is continuing to house and care for animals evacuated by the fires while Compton Cowboys is providing emergency transportation services for horses.
Airbnb and 211LA have partnered to provide free, temporary housing for those who have been displaced.

Baby2baby is providing essential supplies including diapers, clothing, hygiene products, and emergency kits to families in need.
All Power Books and many others are staying open for emergency use, offering supplies and water for pickup while working tirelessly to distribute essentials to those affected.

Open your home
If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a safe haven in your home, please do. And be sure to check in with any disabled or elderly neighbors to see if they need help evacuating.
Give back
Some families and people have been left with nothing. Please consider donating clothing, children’s toys & clothing, and other essentials. The American Red Cross is on the ground helping those in need.”

Helping animals helps us all.

Non-profit organization leading in animal rescue, animal protection and awareness; and low-cost medical care. Adopt, volunteer and foster opportunities available!

@Chuchoter "The worship of celebrities who have no discernible talent is a stain on society"

Agreed. But surely this applies to the actual Royal Family too, not just the "Prince and Princess over the water"?

Most people are not "worshipping" the RF, and they have a purpose.

@Bontonbonbon " I’m glad they’ve stopped because what Sussex supports did during the ‘Where’s Kate?’ debacle really showed the true mean girl spirit of that group.

I give it 10 seconds until some poster pretends it never happened. We were all there. We saw it. The glee that she might be dead or dying or the PW was a wife beater was completely gross."

I genuinely don't see how that can be linked directly to H&M. There was some very grim stuff posted. Are you saying H&M initiated it?

Are you saying they don't have links to the 'Sussex squad;???!

There is a group photo of the Mayor, Gavin Newsom's wife, H&M, some police officers, a few others, doing the rounds on SM..

It's the kind of photo you would take at a party or event, its a dreadful look knowing the whole area is burning around them and the only thing left of the lives of residents in the neighbourhood are ashes.

Don't know how it got out there, but is really insensitive in the midst of a disaster. There is also a photo of Meghan arranging the line up for the photo,

The woman on the left in the second photo is saying " here we fucking go ..."

itsstillmehere · 12/01/2025 17:10

The woman on the far left is saying " here we fucking go ..." and the other three are like " wt actual fuck" . I suspect Meghan barged her way into this group

I agree i don't known anyone who thinks that way. Only on this board do I ever hear it being said and your right it's been 5yrs! Sometimes you want to say let it go, let it goooo 🤪

Like you?

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 12/01/2025 17:15

I can't actually believe they saw this disaster as a photo opportunity?

How crass can they be?!

upinaballoon · 12/01/2025 17:16

I haven't read the whole thread but I thought I'd pop in on page 21 to see if we've got as far as 'and what about Andrew'. Yes, I'm buggering off, NOW.

Apparently the Telegraph are reporting that the couple have requested donations go through the Archewell Foundation.

I’ve just had a scroll through and can’t see that

It sounds unlikely - Archewell doesn’t actually do anything relevant to this, other than make grants to other organisations. So people may as well make their donations directly - ie follow the suggestions that Archewell has already re-published.

Why don’t they just tell them to fuck off to their faces?

Their website Sussex.com lists Archewell as one of the ways to support with a link. As well as other charities, so it’s true.

I can't imagine posing and grinning for a photo when all that devastation is around you. I have no personal connections with Southern California but I feel desperately sad looking at the pictures. How can people stand and grin for a photo. There's a lot of anger towards M and H on social media. They are complete idiots.
Of course M made sure the man in uniform was standing beside her.

Why is Meghan always in the middle ??

WhiskersOnKittens2 · 12/01/2025 17:26

I fully agree. Why did the Mayor give them the Grifter Grief tour? Why did the NYC police provide an escort for H to a tattoo parlour?

Are Americans really actually so in awe of blue blood that they can't tell H "that's not appropriate at this moment"?

So it would be OK to have a group photo at a scene such as this, but not if Meghan is in it?

I think the photo is probably in poor taste and bad optics but I’m reserving judgment (I know that’s not allowed on the internet, we all have to prosecute now!) until we know whose idea it was and who progressed that idea, and why. I imagine if a first-responder or volunteer asked for a photo, it would be a rock and a hard place: say yes and you end up with this tasteless situation (reminds me of people posing at Ground Zero), say no and you risk being the self-important too-good-for-a-photo celebrity: “who do they think they are?”

As ever with rolling news stories, better to sit back and wait to see the real story emerge. (Though I’m leaning towards “yikes”.)

No, there shouldn't be any photos. Anyone with a ounce of wit and decency would have said no. It's like taking photos at a funeral!

Unless of course you think that's also ok?

Onlyonekenobe · 12/01/2025 17:45

I think the woman second from left is Gavin Newsom’s wife? In the wide legged jeans and khaki jacket. I suppose she’s there to show willing on behalf of the governor. Who are Meghan and Harry there to show willing for? Did they volunteer their time or goods or money? Or are they “shining a light”? And if so, on who or what?

ChimneyRock · 12/01/2025 17:47

Why is Meghan always on the centre of a picture?
Well, if I were a cynic, I might suggest that it's so she can't be photo-shopped off the end of the line?

They are doing this for donations through their foundation by the looks of it. As well as the fact that they can apply for Emergency State Relief Government grants due to them helping.

Haha, I always think this (along with “what about nits!”) when celebrities squidge their heads together in photos.

Whoever had the idea, H&M inserted themselves in it. And for that appalling breach of taste, they alone bear the responsibility.

Edited to add: H&M are at the centre of it, and she is there setting up.the shot. So whose idea do we really think it was?

@MummyJ12 "I find it interesting that so many posters who “are not Sussex Squad” are so ill informed about what has gone on with Bouzy, Sarah Data, Peace Adetoro etc. yet will still defend H&M unconditionally."

I find it interesting that anyone who doesn't think that all the criticism is automatically factual and fair is "defending H&M unconditionally"

Well most of us can usually if not always back up what we post which hugely weakens that argument.

CornishTeaTime · 12/01/2025 18:37

No dislike here for H&M, just intrigued with them and what they do right or wrong etc.

But my take on it is, they live in LA, also wasnt M brought up in LA so there's strong links to what is happening and they want to do their bit.

The staged photo yes I think's abit off and a tad insensitive but M genuinely looks concerned, her eyes are tired, red and looks as if she has been crying...alot. They may have friends who have been affected and their pets etc. Dont forget she's just lost her own pet.

wordler · 12/01/2025 18:38

The ‘tour’ of the smoldering site was very inappropriate.

Politicians and state/State representatives visit disaster sites for three main reasons -

First, to show those directly affected that their government is fully engaged and witnessing the incident and will be taking the things they see back to committees to work on how to help.

And to sympathize and provide comfort in talking directly to those affected to reinforce the first point - that their situation and experience is important and will not be forgotten.

And occasionally to highlight an issue which is being overlooked or needs more press attention to rally help.

Harry and Meghan have no role or power to be effective for the first two points and there’s absolutely no need for celebrities to ‘shine a light’ on this situation because it’s the main news across the whole country and beyond.

Putting links on their social media on how to help - fine - lots of celebs doing similar.

Putting in a 6-8 hour shift at a volunteer station to help if you feel moved - great

Swanning around with body guards, being filmed holding hands and strolling though neighborhoods that the actual residents have not been allowed back to access is awful.
