Meghan and Harry have released a statement in regards to the California wildfire via their Sussex.com website.

It reads:

”In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighborhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers, and so much more – affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life.
A state of emergency has been issued.
If you feel compelled to help, here are some resources and ideas:
Support
Organizations such as José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen, which has been a longtime partner of The Archewell Foundation, are serving meals to both first responders and victims of the fire.
CAL FIRE and LA Fire Department Foundation and others are working closely to support firefighters who risk their lives, bravely showing up in these high-risk environments to help save homes, families, and communities in need.
Animal Wellness Foundation is continuing to house and care for animals evacuated by the fires while Compton Cowboys is providing emergency transportation services for horses.
Airbnb and 211LA have partnered to provide free, temporary housing for those who have been displaced.

Baby2baby is providing essential supplies including diapers, clothing, hygiene products, and emergency kits to families in need.
All Power Books and many others are staying open for emergency use, offering supplies and water for pickup while working tirelessly to distribute essentials to those affected.

Open your home
If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a safe haven in your home, please do. And be sure to check in with any disabled or elderly neighbors to see if they need help evacuating.
Give back
Some families and people have been left with nothing. Please consider donating clothing, children’s toys & clothing, and other essentials. The American Red Cross is on the ground helping those in need.”

Helping animals helps us all.

Non-profit organization leading in animal rescue, animal protection and awareness; and low-cost medical care. Adopt, volunteer and foster opportunities available!

She's getting blasted for this statement. Well how surprising. If she hadn't made a statement (as she didn't when there was the terror attack in New Orleans) she'd be called thoughtless (as she was). But when she does, who does she think she is repeating things other people have said.

Fucking hell 🙄

I notice most posters are referring to the couple’s response. A few posters have decided to make this about Meghan Markle. All of them “supporters”. That’s a bit weird.

Yes, referring to Meghan is definitely what's weird, not the unnecessary bashing.

LL1991 · 09/01/2025 23:38

I just find this so self indulgent, no other celebs have felt the need to put out a statement, including those that have lost their homes.

Enough4me · 09/01/2025 23:47

All sharing of this type of support information is positive. I don't think H&M were being purposely annoying before, but after messing up so many times it does influence how people perceive them.
If they continue to be socially thoughtful and stop with the nonsense of "my truth" (rather than the truth) etc. then they could soften opinions about them.

kirinm · 09/01/2025 23:52

Just looked at a few celeb instagram stories and there's loads of them doing it. Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Aniston, Pamela Anderson, Kristen Bell. How self indulgent.

LivelyMintViper · 09/01/2025 23:55

Shame there is no personal support like Goop who are sending free meals for Frontline workers. Official sites can guide people to where they need to go to get advice or help. Or simply where to contribute. With their mansion and money I'm sure they could find a few rooms to help the displaced. And I think that would be a real PR stroke as well as showing humanity

I imagine all of the organisations listed have already put out info on how to help so not sure how this statement adds anything. They don’t represent any of those organisation or have any expertise in this area so I assume this is just trying to make themselves feel relevant.

Would you prefer, that no one, tries to help anyone else? ESPECIALLY them, they should say “No, let’s just stay quiet, say nothing, everyone can say nothing??”

Major stars have reacted to devastating wildfires in the Pacific Palisades and some directly affected have spoken out about their ordeal.
From NBA star LeBron James to reality TV royalty such as Paris Hilton and Heidi Montag, they have taken to social media to speak out about the disaster affecting the Los Angeles neighborhood.

I agree that, to some extent, it feels unnecessary but they would also be criticised if they said nothing.

Maybe just a simple expression of compassion and/or sympathy might have been better?

They were never going to realistically open their home to strangers were they.

Why do they have to say anything ? Has anyone else done it ? I'm not aware of any but happy to be corrected.

Many public figures have spoken out about the fires and revealed their statuses as they’ve fled the affected areas. Those in and outside of L.A. have also shared resources on how to help from afar and how survivors can get support. Find ways to help here.
Here, what stars have said.

I would never advise anyone to take in total strangers where no checks have been made

Even when you are knee deep in armed security?

Yes.
Air bnb are giving free places to stay.

itsstillmehere · 10/01/2025 00:16

I'm seeing Jennifer saying to look after wildlife fleeing.

Lunde · 10/01/2025 00:23

It feels a bit like virtue signalling unless they are opening their own home. Are Archewell or Harry and Meghan personally donating?

Doesn't Meghan's mother allegedly own a senior home care company? Has she been out checking on the elderly?

TBH it seems like a PR strategy because they are worried how out of touch Meghan's new cookery show is going to appear next week with her cooking in ballgowns and hosting royal-style garden parties while so many have lost everything.

BettyBardMacDonald · 10/01/2025 00:26

Wonder how many displaced persons they are taking in. I hear there are a lot of homeless fleeing the fires.

MerryMaker · 10/01/2025 00:30

Remind me how many people the Royal Family took in after the Grenfell fire?

MerryMaker · 10/01/2025 00:35

They have made donations to relief efforts through their Archewell Foundation, and have donated clothing, children’s items, and other essential supplies to those affected by the fires. In addition, they have opened their Montecito home to loved ones who were forced to evacuate due to the blaze.

2JFDIYOLO · 10/01/2025 00:37

When people with a lot of followers put all the info out in one place, that means it gets to more people more quickly.

As well as information, their Archewell Foundation is giving practical help.

Do you have a link for that?

The only thing I've seen is the statement referenced at the start of the thread.

I don’t think they did (there weren’t the sheer numbers, and the council was doing the temporary accommodation)

But there was a substantial donation (via The Evening Standard appeal - which was one of the biggest pan London appeals) from the Royal Foundation - which was then still joint between William, Catherine and Harry

I can’t remember what any of the other royals did -the Queen did joint visits with the then Duke of Cambridge, and is likely to have donated via the Red Cross (she’s known to have given to many of their appeals). William still visits some of the organisations which began in the wake of the disaster
