PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 09/01/2025 19:47

Meghan and Harry have released a statement in regards to the California wildfire via their Sussex.com website.

It reads:

”In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighborhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers, and so much more – affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life.
A state of emergency has been issued.
If you feel compelled to help, here are some resources and ideas:
Support
Organizations such as José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen, which has been a longtime partner of The Archewell Foundation, are serving meals to both first responders and victims of the fire.
CAL FIRE and LA Fire Department Foundation and others are working closely to support firefighters who risk their lives, bravely showing up in these high-risk environments to help save homes, families, and communities in need.
Animal Wellness Foundation is continuing to house and care for animals evacuated by the fires while Compton Cowboys is providing emergency transportation services for horses.
Airbnb and 211LA have partnered to provide free, temporary housing for those who have been displaced.

Baby2baby is providing essential supplies including diapers, clothing, hygiene products, and emergency kits to families in need.
All Power Books and many others are staying open for emergency use, offering supplies and water for pickup while working tirelessly to distribute essentials to those affected.

Open your home
If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a safe haven in your home, please do. And be sure to check in with any disabled or elderly neighbors to see if they need help evacuating.
Give back
Some families and people have been left with nothing. Please consider donating clothing, children’s toys & clothing, and other essentials. The American Red Cross is on the ground helping those in need.”

Helping animals helps us all.

Non-profit organization leading in animal rescue, animal protection and awareness; and low-cost medical care. Adopt, volunteer and foster opportunities available!

@Ohpleeeease "The mayor also said they wanted to be taken to “personally thank” the firefighters. This is what grates with me. I cannot imagine why they would think their “personal thanks” were appropriate or worth having"

It's completely baffling to me, but we are always being told by royalists that one of the reasons we can't abolish the monarchy is that people take such comfort from being noticed by the most minor of royalty. And it is true that some Americans have a bit of a "thing" about the royals. So maybe did get some comfort from being noticed by the 5th in line to the throne?

Wait? They invited TMZ to follow them?!

And let themselves be filmed leaving with someone who earlier presented as a "distressed local" who then looked likeas part of their entourage! Tina Brown was not wrong about M's judgement

IcedPurple · 11/01/2025 19:11

I read the Sky article, it doesn’t say how long they were there, but it says they made two visits in the same day and were serving food “anonymously”.

How does one serve food 'anonymously'?

I don't usually know the name of the folks who serve me food in restaurants. Are they also serving me 'anonymously'?

The mayor also said they wanted to be taken to “personally thank” the firefighters. This is what grates with me.

I'd be surprised if your typical California firefighter could pick either of them out of a line up, let alone be flattered by their 'gratitude'.

IcedPurple · 11/01/2025 19:13

EdithWeston · 11/01/2025 18:30

Well in this case they wanted it to be joint, didn’t they?

I don't believe they wanted it to be 'joint' so much as to be pseudo royal.

Hence the pompous sepia toned 'statement' from their 'office'.

As I said above, her Instagram could easily have been used to post an informal 'joint' message. But where are the faux royal connotations with that?

In other words they are a Pair of chancers who will do anything for a photo op. If this is true. Anyway I thought Harry was distressed by flashing of cameras. Hmm.

Exactly.

Why do they think they have a role there? They aren't American, they don't live in LA, they certainly aren't public officials, most people there have no clue who Harry is let alone Meghan and fewer care.

The gall of turning this massive tragedy into a photo op for themselves. They aren't more despicable now than ever.

Harry was distressed by the flashing of cameras as a 14 year old boy walking behind his mothers coffin.

I think you’re slightly misstating the reasons people give for keeping a monarchy. It isn’t being noticed by a royal that people take comfort in, but the knowledge that their work is appreciated at what is, constitutionally, the highest level.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle don’t represent anybody but themselves so their appreciation counts for nothing. Unless, that is, you’re the sort of person who gets a thrill out of being in the presence of celebrity, and I don’t see the Pasadena firefighters as falling into that category.

No one suggested anything approaching this. Are you OK?

I'm absolutely ok - are you?

You don't get sarcasm, I take it?

BemusedAmerican · 11/01/2025 19:46

The elected are being polite. It's their job. They can't show how they really feel.

The Fox News reporter, in the stated that they knew H &M were coming. Doesn't sound like an anonymous trip to me.

The fires keep spreading. More and more people are being told to evacuate. The smartest idea would be to stay off the roads to keep them clear for evacuees and first responders.

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 11/01/2025 19:47

elessar · 11/01/2025 18:47

Does anyone know what time their 'second visit' took place, in local time?

If their first visit was earlier in the day, it would be hard for them to have spent much time "working anonymously" if they then left (to go where - surely not all the way home?) and came back later in the same day, all while it was still light.

Meghan and Harry are aware of what sound bites they want to put out there, so I'm sure they did help anonymously - but I highly doubt it was for any meaningful amount of time.

Surely it would have made more sense for them to actually help than fanny around hugging people, then leaving and coming back? Bonkers.

PrincessMarkleOfCarparkle · 11/01/2025 19:47

An interesting video* from The Royal Grift. She's showing footage that implies the lady Meghan was hugging came with them for a staged photo. Also some footage of actor, Jennifer Garner, proper heartfelt stuff from a woman standing in her own neighborhood and sharing her memories of places that are now lost. The contrast with the Sussexes is stark.

*Trigger warning for Sussex fans, this YouTuber is not a fan.

He claimed to carry that distress into adulthood.

MummyJ12 · 11/01/2025 19:51

pelargoniums · 11/01/2025 17:58

CNN, Sky and others all quote the mayor saying that they did help, were there for longer than the 45 minutes that’s become gospel in this thread, worked and did more than hugging.

There’s a video on X of Meghan going to the provision table, having a look. Obviously decided against actually doing anything, then she crossed her arms and went to chat to someone else instead.

It comes a close second to the video where she leaves the lady mid conversation and walks off. (The lady who was photographed leaving with them).

I haven’t seen any footage or photos of them actually doing anything other than talking and hugging. So exactly how did they help?

If the fires get to the west of LA, then it’s straight through dry countryside for miles.

Yeah how terrible that he remained traumatised by being forced to walk behind his mothers coffin in front of thousands of people shouting and crying.

Of course it is - but why would he now actively seek it out?

Make it make sense!! He had no need whatsoever to go to Pasadena!

Indeed. That was my understanding. Every time a camera flashes it causes distress.

TMZ reporting that Meghan has asked Netflix to push back the launch of her show to Feb 5, after the fire and inauguration news have died down.

Tbf, loads of people/agencies probably do this all the time as there’s so much money and reputation on the line. Everyone wants to maximise their return. But if true, it’s an indication (should any more be required) of how tawdry and grubby and money/power crazed their chosen life is. There’s no higher calling than to ego and $$$$. Juxtapose this with the polished image that’s going to be portrayed on the cooking show, the sanitized IG page, the high-end designer clothes, the sanctimonious preaching as though they’re in a position to preach to anyone about anything, the woe is me victimization, the endless red carpet walking for the cameras selling themselves - it’s brazen hypocrisy without even a fig leaf of pretence. I don’t see anything virtuous or enviable or authentic or desirable in any of it. It’s all so ugly and venal. Relentless hustling, running as fast as the news cycle.

I wonder whether Harry ever feels he jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire (not literal, Montecito far from evacuation zones).

So very true. I find the pair of them utterly disgusting.

For all those asking why they went to Pasadena and not go any other places it was because José Andrés, the founder of World Central Kitchen was at Pasadena.

Except Jose Andres was at the Pacific Palisades World Central Kitchen base on Friday also - he was interviewed there by MSNBC.
