Meghan and Harry have released a statement in regards to the California wildfire via their Sussex.com website.

It reads:

”In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighborhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers, and so much more – affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life.
A state of emergency has been issued.
If you feel compelled to help, here are some resources and ideas:
Support
Organizations such as José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen, which has been a longtime partner of The Archewell Foundation, are serving meals to both first responders and victims of the fire.
CAL FIRE and LA Fire Department Foundation and others are working closely to support firefighters who risk their lives, bravely showing up in these high-risk environments to help save homes, families, and communities in need.
Animal Wellness Foundation is continuing to house and care for animals evacuated by the fires while Compton Cowboys is providing emergency transportation services for horses.
Airbnb and 211LA have partnered to provide free, temporary housing for those who have been displaced.

Baby2baby is providing essential supplies including diapers, clothing, hygiene products, and emergency kits to families in need.
All Power Books and many others are staying open for emergency use, offering supplies and water for pickup while working tirelessly to distribute essentials to those affected.

Open your home
If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a safe haven in your home, please do. And be sure to check in with any disabled or elderly neighbors to see if they need help evacuating.
Give back
Some families and people have been left with nothing. Please consider donating clothing, children’s toys & clothing, and other essentials. The American Red Cross is on the ground helping those in need.”

Helping animals helps us all.

Non-profit organization leading in animal rescue, animal protection and awareness; and low-cost medical care. Adopt, volunteer and foster opportunities available!

Given the demographics of where houses have been lost, I expect there will be some spectacularly generous donations coming in, following on from Jamie Lee Curtis.
M and Harry have a golden opportunity to do something authentic. Their usual mo of slinging a few thousand to a well regarded charity, then describing themselves as 'partners' is not going to look like much compared to the weight of Hollywood philanthropy.

Like what?

A stonking great donation from their own personal money.

herpastcanchangethefuture · 11/01/2025 08:24

They’re helping out at food banks, seems like a nice thing to do to me. What they’ve posted on instagram is the same as countless other people have done. They could probably donate their entire wealth, & everything they own and people would find fault with them. BTW not a huge fan of royals in general but whatever they do, her especially, people will pick to pieces and find fault.

JanuaryCrow · 11/01/2025 08:26

I think there has been hugging.

Do you know for sure they haven't? And aren't they supposed to be running out of money?

No, they turned up for 45 minutes with bodyguards and press photographers to help out! More publicity than altruism.

According to who?

CurlewKate · 11/01/2025 09:03

I honestly think people shouldn't post on here without some sort of attribution.

It's the lead story at the moment in the MailOnline.

No idea what the Mailonline is saying-but I'd look out the window before I believed if they told me it was raining!

Ohpleeeease · 11/01/2025 09:19

Whatever the motive it seems to have really lifted people’s spirits and let’s face it, they’re going to need all the optimism they can get.

Completely superficial point, but I though Meghan looked very pretty. It’s the first time I’ve been able to say that for ages, normally I find her look too “Real Housewives”, but this reminded me of how she was presented to us in the early days when they were still the darlings of the media and we all wished them well.

I think this visit may well have been initiated out of genuine compassion because I do think she’s capable of it. Such a shame that the greed and narcissism always closes in and overshadows her better side.

It doesn't say they turned up for 45 mi uses with cameras. It says they were helping volunteers at wck, they had been there incognito earlier and they spoke to people described by a news organisation as ' commoners'!

Chuchoter · 11/01/2025 09:24

They are grief hijacker’s using other people’s suffering to gain attention and fame and to boost their self importance and over inflated egos.

Imagine your home and all of your possessions are destroyed by a fire and you're greeted by Markle gurning at you wafting a pot of jam under your nose, unable to look at you directly as she's preening for the camera.

Standing behind her in her shadow is Harry reminding people who lost their homes that he understands their suffering as he didn't go on enough bike rides with his dad as a kid.

Thedom · 11/01/2025 09:25

I think there is going to be another public celebrity backlash, it's already beginning.

Princess Markle and Prince Markle may find the PR is not going to last the distance on this effort..

So one one hand ' they have a golden opportunity to do something altruistic' and ' they should donate to charities' but on the other hand they are ' grief vultures' when they do? The Royal Family do this all the time. Are they ' grief vultures too? I don't much care for them, I think they have behaved stupidly but peopke are finding fault deliberately with every single move they make.
Their peers are minor Hollywood celebs. They are the ones with the money and time to help out. If them being there encourages their peers to do the same, then good for them.

Viviennemary · 11/01/2025 09:31

They've been 'helping out' apparently. With much photo opps. Wearing baseball caps. And reporters have been calling her Princess Meghan and another one calling her Princess Markle. They've been called the pound shop royals.

Is that what happened? Do you have a reference?

Already some locals are complaining they have not been allowed back to view the damage to their own homes, but town officials are giving H&M a guided tour of other peoples tragedies.

LaMarschallin · 11/01/2025 09:45

And reporters have been calling her Princess Meghan and another one calling her Princess Markle.

Please let this be true.
If it is, Harry's work is done.

"And reporters have been calling her Princess Meghan and another one calling her Princess Markle"

American journalists are, quite understandably, frequently shaky on British royal protocol. To be fair, so are British journalists!
