Meghan has updated her Instagram to announce that her rescue dog, Guy the Beagle, has passed away.

It looks like he features quite a bit in her cooking/lifestyle show.

Poor Meghan!

I doubt many people give a shining toss about what the exact timing of Guy's death was relative to the release of M&H's video tribute.

Much more interesting is the content of the video, from my PoV. I think it encapsulates what it means to love animals/domestic pets, rescue them, care for them, and fully integrate them into your family.
The strength of the relationship you can have with an animal.
The wellbeing benefits you derive from them loving you unconditionally.
The feel-good and mental health benefits you derive from caring for them, particularly when they've suffered trauma and have been adopted from a rescue shelter.
The happiness they provide to your kids, and how they help bring your family together.
The fondness you develop from them accompanying you and being there for you through thick and thin.

People with pets understand this, which is why Meghan's video tribute is proving to be such a hit, viz, the Times article below. Many people who've never had pets understand this too.

When it comes to the death of a dog I’m with Meghan

The Duchess of Sussex has posted a eulogy to her beagle on Instagram. I know exactly how she’s feeling, says Kevin Maher. Plus: ‘I can’t bring myself to let go of Monty’s collar’

When I saw the thread title in the RF topic, I assumed ‘Guy the Beagle’ was a nickname for some faithful equerry or something, rather than an actual dog.

CatsWhiskerz · 09/01/2025 12:51

The cynic in me thinks that MM has cute doggo in programme, use him in clips ... clips go down really badly on social media ... MM reaches into the PR Pandora's box and voila... ahh my doggie died - feel sorry for me and make my programme a bit more popular please ...
also, the whole thing around Kate's birthday, they always seem to release stuff around someone else's event 🙄
Oh and back to animal cruelty (looking at you Hazza) not only do polo ponies seem to be harmed or damaged/died, now this pooch had images of bandages on legs, but there's another dog with a leg injury doing the rounds .... quite shocking how much trouble their pets / animals get into - not unlike Katie Price!

nationalsausagefund · 09/01/2025 12:57

The royal family has events all the time! Trooping the Colour, birthdays for the four senior royals, Kate’s carol concert, Earthshot, all the other guff and pageantry, counting the swans. It would be impossible for Meghan and Harry to time releases without running up against the RF’s schedule. And they don’t work together any more, they can’t coordinate diaries. It’s almost like Meghan and Harry are acting independently of the royal family and sticking to their own timings, and other people are making connections and conspiracies where there are none…

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 09/01/2025 13:14

@CatsWhiskerz - is it that you think the dog didn’t die, or that she killed the dog for good PR?

CatsWhiskerz · 09/01/2025 13:22

@FancyBiscuitsLevel - I don't think she's horrible enough to kill her dog - she didn't put her other dog down, she just left it in Canada. I very much suspect he died months ago and she's using it as a tool, she's got form for these types of methods 🤣

Adamante · 09/01/2025 13:25

When you lose a dog or cat I think your mind struggles to fill the space where they were and so, ime everything familiar looks & feels sharp & cold and slightly unreal, and your mind tries to adjust to them being gone, for days. That’s not a great description but it’s how I felt when I lost my beloved 15 year old boy.

That said, it’s a good thing that “Guy” didn’t take a dislike to “H” and get left behind in Canada like her other dog did, so at least he got his celeb moment in the sun.

MaturingCheeseball · 09/01/2025 13:30

No one likes dogs more than I do….It seems a bit off to “announce” the death of a beloved pet 3 months after the fact. You wouldn’t announce, say, a grandma’s death some time after their demise.

Also I am very sceptical about Harry’s love for animals. He has that sort of farming people mentality (my family farmers) of being very unsentimental - animals are utility. All that gushing over Meghan’s dog comes across as false or currying favour with her.

Poster upthread was quite right: cue Instapuppy…

Ohpleeeease · 09/01/2025 13:42

I give her credit for adopting from a kill shelter and for advocating adoption rather than buying designer dogs. I really wish she had made this one of her missions, to end puppy farms and encourage people to give a fresh start to a dog in distress. I do believe this in one area where she genuinely cares and could demonstrate much needed authenticity.

It's interesting you say that about H. There was one part of the video which made me feel uncomfortable. H was walking Guy on the beach and he was plodding along. H was pushing him to go faster saying 'come on Guy'. He was clearly quite old at this point and I can't understand why you would want to push an old dog to walk faster than it could. Maybe H lacks empathy with animals.

Ohpleeeease · 09/01/2025 14:12

Not just old but possibly struggling to walk after being seriously injured in Toronto.

LoveThatDog · 09/01/2025 14:20

Rhaidimiddim · 09/01/2025 08:48

That's a week away. And you seem to be agreeing that the death did not just happen, and the video release was calculated and for a reason other than celebrating the beloved pup.

Edited

I’ve no idea when the dog died, but people are suggesting it was months ago. I know the trailer for the show has come out recently as I’ve seen articles talking about it and I know the show is due out soon. When I found out the dog featured in the show, the announcement about the dog dying made sense.

I think anyone who hunts and/or uses horses for sports lacks empathy with animals. That will include a lot of the RF. They seem to have been raised with it being normalised. I’m an animal lover so it’s one reason I don’t much like many of the Royals.

Scentedjasmin · 09/01/2025 14:36

I think that there is something seriously wrong with our press, when the death of somebody's elderly dog becomes international news! Losing a dog is sad, for those who lived with it. But it is not and should not be newsworthy. And it is not comparable to losing an actual family member.

thinktwice36 · 09/01/2025 14:40

Good that she managed to shoehorn a mention of her show into the sad announcement..😏

how convenient she was able to make this announcement during the launch period..

thinktwice36 · 09/01/2025 14:43

I think that they had to announce it because after the show is aired, people will want more info on Guy.

😂😂 nah. More like they announced it to counteract the absolute roasting the trailer for her new show was getting.

Maybe she only just felt strong enough to do so? :'-(

Wonder why she thought the general public wanted to know?

Adamante · 09/01/2025 14:46

If I was a cynic, I might think that she was trying to take the focus off her tone deaf trailer and onto her sweet, elderly dog, everyone loves dogs, right? But I'm not a cynic so I don't think that... 😉

Meghan generates interest, look at most of the threads on this board, so many of them are about Meghan. It’s mostly negative on here, but to the press, as long as people clicking on articles and reading, their reasons don’t matter. If people don’t want to read about her, they need to stop being interested in her, as until they stop, we’ll hear about every detail they find out about anything vaguely related to her, just like we do with others in the public eye that people are interested in. Often people would rather read some celeb gossip than about more serious issues. That seems to be human nature. There’s room for all things in the news though, just don’t read it if you think it’s not newsworthy.

We lost a young dog and it impacted us more than any family member we’ve lost so far. You don’t know everyone’s family situation and the loss of a dog can be more devastating. I wouldn’t judge anyone’s grief for a human or animal.

LunaNorth · 09/01/2025 14:53

Bangs on, doesn’t she?

Are you saying that because people are more interested in celeb gossip than serious issues that is the news they should expect to be given? And that people who prefer serious news should just tune out? Is that really the point you’re making?

NotaRealHousewife · 09/01/2025 16:12

Losing a pet is just awful

I’m saying that the press will print what get clicks. Its what makes them money. I do just tune out to stuff I’m not interested in. Other things are reported if you look for it and avoid certain news outlets. What else can you do? Until people change, the press won’t change. I don’t be holding my breath.
