With Love, Meghan - criticisms and genuine concern for her mental health

1000 replies

Lavenderfarmcottage · 05/01/2025 16:34

I am probably going to be flogged for posting this and chased down the dark laneways of Mumsnet as bystanders yell “Shame Shame Shame”.

I weighed in yesterday about a thread on Meghan and her new Netflix show. I made some criticisms about the trailer and certain cliche’s in the way it was produced. Hypocritical of me to be posting this but I feel guilty and have reflected. I am actually looking forward to watching it on Netflix and my criticisms were pretty minor and not exclusive to her show - it’s a common issue I have.

Meghan has struggled with mental health because of criticism. The reaction to ‘With Love… Meghan’ has been fairly brutal.

I think it would be really good if we refrained from saying anything negative about the series or Meghan Markle. That’s not the point of this thread.

I want to know if you think the criticisms have gone too far. The Princess of Wales is not on the scene and we are protective of her rightly so. That leaves Meghan as media fodder though.

Do you think it’s time Meghan and Harry were given a break ? I do. I think we’ve been far too harsh and the criticisms have gotten out of hand.

I think we also forget the cultural relevance. If we went into the homes or Gwyneth, Julia Roberts etc and I would probably feel the divide too. American culture doesn’t apologise for wealth and hollywoood is highly competitive.

Having a confident demeanour, throwing your head back Julia Roberts style when you laugh and unapologetically selling $$$ vagina products like Gwyneth Paltrow is how it over there. People talk loudly and confidently and are polished and rehearsed especially in the
Competitive world of Hollywood…

Are we all being too hard ?

@Choccyscofffy "Because bullying must always be called out."

I agree. I presume everyone 100% opposed Jeremy Clarkson's appalling attack calling for Meghan to be paraded naked through the streets being pelted with excrement? Or was that just banter? A humorous game of thrones reference?

I'm fairly sure it was universally (and rightly) condemned by the vast majority, unless you know different?

Adamante · 07/01/2025 16:16

Did it ever occur to you that there might be a good reason not to publish it???! You can be pretty sure they'd have been shouting from the rooftops if there was no truth in the allegations!

They don't need to publish it outright. All they needed to do was let people know it existed and that changes had been made based on recommendations within thereby saying it all, without actually saying it all. Thats the BRF way.

It's an internal HR report.

It would probably be illegal to release it publicly, as it would be an infringement of employee privacy. Even if names were redacted, it would be pretty easy to identify some of those involved, and I dread to think what the 'squad' would do with the information.

Completely dismissing? What an exaggeration. She listened for most of it, and got distracted by the babies and toddlers. Hardly a crime.

But it gets more ire than Andrew.

That event with M and the HIV-bereaved mother has really hit a nerve for you, it seems. You've tried to minimise M's behaviour every which way. Interesting. It suggests the recognition of a PR weak spot.

Meanwhile in the real world, I wonder what the bereaved mother felt about it afterward, and if anybody bothered to ask her if she was OK.

Thanks @CurlewKate

It’s scary how they have zero self awareness or the ability to regulate their emotions.

The fact that Meghan gets more hate than Prince Andrew the rapist will never not be weird.

Do you know Andrew? Were you present when the alleged 'rape' occurred??!

Talking of "self awareness", indeed!

CurlewKate · 07/01/2025 16:30

@mainecooncatonahottinroof "I'm fairly sure it was universally (and rightly) condemned by the vast majority, unless you know different?"

It was explained away as banter, as hyperbole, as an extended Game of Thrones metaphor. Clarkson issued an "I'm sorry if..."apology and it made no impact at all on his life or career. If that's how you see "universal condemnation".

Did you watch a different video to me? She looked in the woman's direction twice, after being directed to speak to her twice. I'm pretty sure she'd have been briefed prior (lady sat to the left will recant her story to you).

Andrew wasn't there. It's got naff all to do with him so why are you deflecting?

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 07/01/2025 16:32

Samcro · 07/01/2025 14:44

he's not a controversial figure, is he?
saying that about PA shows a lot.

Nonsense, he's not "controversial" in the sense of dividing opinion. Nobody has a good opinion of him.

Choccyscofffy · 07/01/2025 15:12

Eh? I said ‘this level of aggression is weird’. I didn’t call anyone is weird or unhinged.

Edited

Oh come off it, we all know what you meant!

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 07/01/2025 16:35

Choccyscofffy · 07/01/2025 15:13

Are you calling me weird?

Figure it out for yourself.

Mylovelygreendress · 07/01/2025 16:09

Yes …..what-about-Andrew ??
Just waiting for someone to bring up Sarah’s books and TV appearances.

👏

@mainecooncatonahottinroof "Obviously we can't know- but I cannot imagine QE2 saying that in a million years!

Why??? Did you know her personally?"

Nope. Just like nobody on this thread knows any of the people involved personally. But can you seriously imagine the late queen saying " They took the only thing that was truly mine-my nickname."? I can imagine her being privately cross, or saying to a confidante that it was a bit of a nerve, but that rubbish about "truly mine" like someone in a TicToc video? Never.

I don't know what the Queen might have said, and neither do you.

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 07/01/2025 16:43

Choccyscofffy · 07/01/2025 15:15

So you think Prince Andrew is innocent?

Hope you will be called out for calling me weird and unhinged!

It was never about Meghan "sitting on the floor". It was about a video of her completely dismissing a woman with HIV relating her story of her child that died. Are we just rewriting the narrative of actual videoed events now?

Usual tactics of deflecting, minimising and Andrew whataboutery, so utterly transparent, it’s the squads playbook MO.

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 07/01/2025 16:45

Choccyscofffy · 07/01/2025 15:43

As the Queen once said, ‘Recollections may vary’. 🤣

I also didn't state I think you're unhinged (you did say that about me earlier though) 😅

I didn’t say you’re unhinged, I said ‘I’m not even going to respond to your baby shower rant, it’s unhinged.’

You were the one who said to me ‘Are you mental?’

Oh how those recollections vary!

Oh jesus, this is so childish and tedious!!

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 07/01/2025 16:46

Choccyscofffy · 07/01/2025 15:45

The point is he doesn’t get entire threads of 1000 posts dedicated to tearing him down, like Meghan does.

MNers are more offended by Meghan sitting on the floor than they are by Prince Andrew raping a 17yo girl. Truly bizarre.

What would 1000 posts say, then? If you're so keen to discuss him, start your own thread.

Literally! It's like... Yes, let's have a discussion about A....

No, wait! My point isn't being recognised, so I shall bring up their in law (because it's not at all relevant) 🙄

Didn't they get independents to investigate?

I'm pretty sure if Meghan was exonerated, we'd know. Not the details, just the outcome. These things have a way of coming out.

Yes, it was investigated by a 3rd party, as is pretty common in such cases.

However, it's still an internal HR report and as such is bound by the relevant legislation, even if the organisations involved are publicly funded. I don't think it's a case of Meghan being 'exonerated' or not, as it was a review into HR procedures, not an enquiry into the behaviour of specific individuals.

We get it. Andrew the rapist - good. Meghan who sits on the floor - bad.
