With Love, Meghan - criticisms and genuine concern for her mental health

I am probably going to be flogged for posting this and chased down the dark laneways of Mumsnet as bystanders yell “Shame Shame Shame”.

I weighed in yesterday about a thread on Meghan and her new Netflix show. I made some criticisms about the trailer and certain cliche’s in the way it was produced. Hypocritical of me to be posting this but I feel guilty and have reflected. I am actually looking forward to watching it on Netflix and my criticisms were pretty minor and not exclusive to her show - it’s a common issue I have.

Meghan has struggled with mental health because of criticism. The reaction to ‘With Love… Meghan’ has been fairly brutal.

I think it would be really good if we refrained from saying anything negative about the series or Meghan Markle. That’s not the point of this thread.

I want to know if you think the criticisms have gone too far. The Princess of Wales is not on the scene and we are protective of her rightly so. That leaves Meghan as media fodder though.

Do you think it’s time Meghan and Harry were given a break ? I do. I think we’ve been far too harsh and the criticisms have gotten out of hand.

I think we also forget the cultural relevance. If we went into the homes or Gwyneth, Julia Roberts etc and I would probably feel the divide too. American culture doesn’t apologise for wealth and hollywoood is highly competitive.

Having a confident demeanour, throwing your head back Julia Roberts style when you laugh and unapologetically selling $$$ vagina products like Gwyneth Paltrow is how it over there. People talk loudly and confidently and are polished and rehearsed especially in the
Competitive world of Hollywood…

The truth is, people dislike her because she isn’t particularly likeable. There’s no realness to her, no vulnerability, nothing friendly. You can’t imagine being friends with her or her doing anything normal. Her media portrayal is very Californian and polished and I think in general Brits like our celebs to be a bit more real and down to earth. She is the opposite of this.

All I’ll say is that I think England needs to give her a break. I think it’s time to just have an open mind.

Imagine being Harry and your brother has millions and millions and owns the sea and ambulance 🚑 sheds or whatever they.

If I were already a self made millionaire actress I’d be out, if I’m being honest.

I don’t know if I’d be standing behind a white woman on a balcony, who does the same job as me and accepting that she gets way more perks, money and financial freedom. It wouldn’t work.

This is why I don't think the publicity good or bad with the trailer isn't really hurting them.

They'll get more people tuning in whether they stick around will depend on the show.

She wasn’t held at gunpoint to marry him though. Plus she’s way way more well known now, I don’t think many people had heard of her before they got together, Suits wasn’t a mega hit, it wasn’t like she was Jennifer Anniston.

She is this generation’s Wallace Simpson that’s all.

She was criticised in thousands of inches of newspaper columns when she was en vogue, she is criticised now.

There is nothing Meghan Markle can do to fix other people’s obsessions with making her into some kind of personality for hate that surely should be reserved for much more maligned human behaviour than criticising the queen/the royal palace’s media policies. But hey ho people are strange.

M is one of the most famous women in the word. The headlines, reports and gossip are constant, and I suspect that's exactly how she likes it. Both she and "H" want to be able to control what people say, certainly not stop it.

Except it wouldn't because it wouldn't be genuine, so we would never know who to trust. They seem to have gone down the avenue of getting rid of anyone providing criticism, no matter how constructive.

She's always been richer than him? Wasn't marrying for money I think! That's why she's so annoyed about it all.

Just watched the trailer. It's very Californian and woo, all that light and love and joy.
I am the opposite of Californian myself, so will pass.

If it's any consolation, OP, I am not keen on the other royals either.

I think the world is becoming brutal and unforgiving and forgetting warmth. It wouldn’t be nice if a bridge could be built.

Honestly the tabloid press cover them because they sell papers - and they are happy enough with coverage when it's positive - but it's not just the UK press that criticizes - the USA media seems to be less and less enamoured or interested.

The media intertest has given them opportunities that many other never get despite working hard for them their whole lives - and this couple just not made the most of them.

I think long term apathy is what they need to fear - as the seem to want attention and to make money - when everyone no longer cares - and that day not that far away IMO - they find the lifestyle they appear to want completely beyond them

This isn't some sort of group think where we all vote on how to treat someone. If people want to treat her badly they will unfortunately, regardless of what anyone on a message board says.

If Harry had the slightest bit of gumption he'd have bowed out of royal duties and used his time to create personal wealth in the same way his cousins have all managed to. He didn't, just sat in Nott Cottage until Meghan arrived to tell him how unfair it all was.

That's because she's been so cruel and publicly lied about her husbands grandparents, his father and his sister in law, making accusations of racism at the height of the BLM furore when she knew it would do maximum damage. Unfortunately karma is a bitch, live by the sword die by the sword, you reap what you sow etc etc

The British obsession with Meghan Markle is truly baffling to me.

They didn't have to have the big public wedding, she didn't need to give up her career, they didn't - and don't - have to use their titles while resenting that others are ahead in the hierarchy.

Anyone who gets pleasure from watching people fail really need to think about getting a new hobby.
