With Love, Meghan - criticisms and genuine concern for her mental health

I am probably going to be flogged for posting this and chased down the dark laneways of Mumsnet as bystanders yell “Shame Shame Shame”.

I weighed in yesterday about a thread on Meghan and her new Netflix show. I made some criticisms about the trailer and certain cliche’s in the way it was produced. Hypocritical of me to be posting this but I feel guilty and have reflected. I am actually looking forward to watching it on Netflix and my criticisms were pretty minor and not exclusive to her show - it’s a common issue I have.

Meghan has struggled with mental health because of criticism. The reaction to ‘With Love… Meghan’ has been fairly brutal.

I think it would be really good if we refrained from saying anything negative about the series or Meghan Markle. That’s not the point of this thread.

I want to know if you think the criticisms have gone too far. The Princess of Wales is not on the scene and we are protective of her rightly so. That leaves Meghan as media fodder though.

Do you think it’s time Meghan and Harry were given a break ? I do. I think we’ve been far too harsh and the criticisms have gotten out of hand.

I think we also forget the cultural relevance. If we went into the homes or Gwyneth, Julia Roberts etc and I would probably feel the divide too. American culture doesn’t apologise for wealth and hollywoood is highly competitive.

Having a confident demeanour, throwing your head back Julia Roberts style when you laugh and unapologetically selling $$$ vagina products like Gwyneth Paltrow is how it over there. People talk loudly and confidently and are polished and rehearsed especially in the
Competitive world of Hollywood…

Not sure what you mean by " you opened the door to them criticising you".. they obviously will never know me to criticise me.
I am just commenting on the fact that they made public some very personal facts about people many which subsequently proved inaccurate and others so unnecessary to share as they was just personal (eg. harry telling about his brothers circumcision, losing his virginity which ultimately outed the woman). As a result I feel very little sympathy for people being critical of meghans work which she actively publicises !

Oh no no no. This is the same woman who knew a 90 yo was dying and threatened to spill family secrets because she didn't sign NDA. Also same woman who allegedly bullied people left and right. I say fuck her mental health. You reap what you sow.

Why should she sign an NDA?

Can you imagine the AIBU if anyone posted that their MIL wanted them to sign a legal document vowing to never ever speak about their family outside of the family without prior permission?

I don't think the matriarch being elderly would have gained them any sympathy on such a thread.

You do realise this thread was on the trending topics list? So you may see posts from people that do not usually frequent this bizarre section of MN.

To say that MN posters are somehow tied to Meghan’s new venture is absolutely absurd.

I seriously think posters like yourself need to get a serious grip.

You endorse the papers who write about them. You've bought their books and obviously watched them on TV. You're more of a fan than me I haven't bought any books or watched any programme or listened to them on Spotify. You're more curious than what I am.

I felt a bit sorry for the Archbishop of Canterbury and baffled when she insisted their real wedding had happened 3 days before. But after recent events leading to his resignation it made me think did he? Who can you trust! 🤣

Please don’t get personal. Telling posters to get a grip makes you sound like you have nothing else constructive to add to the conversation.

Americans have to work for their money. They don't get benefits like in the UK and they have to pay for their healthcare. Saying Meghan didn't want to continue working didn't actually come from her mouth did it.

I think a lot of us started off feeling very positively about Meghan marrying Harry but there is a point - different for different people - where you start actively disliking her actions and things she’s said then start to irritate you.

Press sniping (bridesmaid dress, smelly chapel, Kate crying) - just the usual press drama nonsense take it with a pinch of salt

Odd communication blunders around Archie’s birth - that’s very odd but whatever

Leaving announcement - oh no the Fab 4 is done, shame but good for them for doing what’s best. Website was an odd mistake though.

Oprah interview - oh for god’s sake. Well that’s it for family relations!

Then I wasn’t really bothered by any of their puttering about until

Ulvade - and that was my wake up moment re Meghan - she used a terrible tragedy for a photo op and PR for herself. It was pretty disgusting. She had no connection to the town, wasn’t representing any official body and she hired a private jet and took a team of people with her to get photos of her posing in front of a child’s memorial after the shooting had just happened. The families hadn’t even visited the memorial at that point.

It was a horrendous lack of judgement.

My partner said he couldn't wait for them to have their first child. Now it's a mixed heritage royal family.

I thought it was going to be lovely watching William and Harry’s kids grow up together in the same way we watched all the previous generation grow up together.
