With Love, Meghan - criticisms and genuine concern for her mental health

1000 replies

Lavenderfarmcottage · 05/01/2025 16:34

I am probably going to be flogged for posting this and chased down the dark laneways of Mumsnet as bystanders yell “Shame Shame Shame”.

I weighed in yesterday about a thread on Meghan and her new Netflix show. I made some criticisms about the trailer and certain cliche’s in the way it was produced. Hypocritical of me to be posting this but I feel guilty and have reflected. I am actually looking forward to watching it on Netflix and my criticisms were pretty minor and not exclusive to her show - it’s a common issue I have.

Meghan has struggled with mental health because of criticism. The reaction to ‘With Love… Meghan’ has been fairly brutal.

I think it would be really good if we refrained from saying anything negative about the series or Meghan Markle. That’s not the point of this thread.

I want to know if you think the criticisms have gone too far. The Princess of Wales is not on the scene and we are protective of her rightly so. That leaves Meghan as media fodder though.

Do you think it’s time Meghan and Harry were given a break ? I do. I think we’ve been far too harsh and the criticisms have gotten out of hand.

I think we also forget the cultural relevance. If we went into the homes or Gwyneth, Julia Roberts etc and I would probably feel the divide too. American culture doesn’t apologise for wealth and hollywoood is highly competitive.

Having a confident demeanour, throwing your head back Julia Roberts style when you laugh and unapologetically selling $$$ vagina products like Gwyneth Paltrow is how it over there. People talk loudly and confidently and are polished and rehearsed especially in the
Competitive world of Hollywood…

Are we all being too hard ?

My parents had a private ceremony before the church wedding it's not that unusual.

It's not a wedding though? She's a fool to have said that.

There was no way the Queen would have paid $16 million hush money to Virginia Giuffre if Andrew wasn’t guilty AF.

No, and I don't know where you got that figure.

It's like employers do when employees take them to industrial tribunal. They settle because it would cost them more to fight the case.

This was a pragmatic decision taken to avoid the negative publicity the civil case would have brought to the RF.

It's not a difficult concept.

You should have left her alone rather than hounding her to show her face poor woman. The British people dragged it out of her.

I had nothing to do with it thank you very much. I completely came off social media at that time because it was so brutal. I have never seen anything like it. You guys hounded her. Meghan’s fan club with your unhinged conspiracy theories and social media frenzied bullying. Most of which came from the US! It was disgusting.

Michellesbackbrace · 05/01/2025 21:56

I wouldn’t worry too much about her - I’m pretty sure she’ll be loving every smidgeon of attention!

People who want a quiet life simply don’t live their life the way she does - she has plenty enough money to go and live quietly and do charity work or whatever.

She doesn’t want a quiet life - she has a massive ego that needs to be massaged at every possible opportunity but sadly no talent to go with it. I reckon she can’t believe her luck how things have turned out. (Though my opinion is she’s paying for it heartily being married to that man-baby)!

How much? Again it's different to whichever press report you read.

The point a PP made was that the press aren't to be believed yet we do. I'm presuming Andrews guilt over lots of press over lots of years. Clearly the press isn't gospel though.

Same with Meghan and Harry. The semantics are just that. Everything highlights them as a pair of overprivileged twats.

It's strange arguing with you. Like arguing with a flat-earther. I give up. If the words of the Archbishop of Canterbury won't persuade you then random old me on mumsnet certainly won't!

I think the Archbishop handled it well on that occasion but do remember this is the same Archbishop of Canterbury who was forced to resign due to lying about his knowledge of a church associate sexually and physically abusing young boys for decades.

Dabralor · 05/01/2025 21:58

Obsessing over Meghan Markle has become a literal bloodsport for certain weird individuals - I honestly think there are people just itching for news of her having come to harm. It's insane. Especially when there are so many literal baddies in the world to legitimately criticise, like Putin or Kim Jong Un.

As for her show - it's a rich woman doing some cooking. If these people could reserve just 10% of their Meghan-obsession energy, we could do away with fossil fuels.

At this point you have no option but to enjoy and embrace negative attention. What else can you do?

It’s like the days before Catherine got ill. Some people have short memories…..

As I posted on another thread earlier today.

It is indeed like the days before Bouzey was outed and Catherine made her announcement.

A sugar rush of new names but familiar posting styles and strategies, all coincidental with MM's new venture. Can't believe we're doing the "what lies?" and "what she really meant when she said they were married three days before..." stuff again either.

Surely Andrew is the more ‘overprivileged twat’? At least Harry has moved away, Andrew refuses to give up the Royal teat to suckle on.

Yes absolutely. I need to read some sort of psychological analysis of this bizarre behaviour to make sense of it.

It’s the same amount of delusion and venom for sure.
It’s the double standards and hypocrisy that is staggering. Although, I suppose that they’ve learned from the best.

If she doesn’t want public scrutiny then she should become a private individual instead of someone who makes a living as a celebrity.

I thought that at first, but they have literally no choice but to work - their security costs millions per year, and they have no other way to pay for it.

If my baby son had had credible threats made against his life by lunatics, I'd do anything to prevent him being harmed. Genuinely anything.

They were in an impossible position.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/01/2025 22:05

Oh my god, it's been reported on in Forbes. 😂
They have a $10m deal through Archwell Productions.

I very much doubt this.

She doesn't occupy a second of my thoughts unless I read something new about her or I'm posting here.

They're the gift that keeps giving!!

There's no nuance with Putin or Kim Jong Un. They are what it says on the tin, so what would the 'fun' be in discussing them?!

"could do away with fossil fuels" - really?!!

They could have stayed in the RF and got all the security their hearts' desired if they were that concerned.

AndThereSheGoes · 05/01/2025 22:07

@Choccyscofffy yes no argument there. Andrews whole life is being a royal. Because I suppose that's how it works if you are born into that family.

I think that's why Harry seems a bit lost. He's not done anything memorable since Invictus despite the fantastic education, money and contacts.

They're both overprivileged twats.

That’s good news. Especially if it saves a charity that’s obviously on life support and their way of doing good. Why do you find it funny?
