With Love, Meghan - criticisms and genuine concern for her mental health

1000 replies

Lavenderfarmcottage · 05/01/2025 16:34

I am probably going to be flogged for posting this and chased down the dark laneways of Mumsnet as bystanders yell “Shame Shame Shame”.

I weighed in yesterday about a thread on Meghan and her new Netflix show. I made some criticisms about the trailer and certain cliche’s in the way it was produced. Hypocritical of me to be posting this but I feel guilty and have reflected. I am actually looking forward to watching it on Netflix and my criticisms were pretty minor and not exclusive to her show - it’s a common issue I have.

Meghan has struggled with mental health because of criticism. The reaction to ‘With Love… Meghan’ has been fairly brutal.

I think it would be really good if we refrained from saying anything negative about the series or Meghan Markle. That’s not the point of this thread.

I want to know if you think the criticisms have gone too far. The Princess of Wales is not on the scene and we are protective of her rightly so. That leaves Meghan as media fodder though.

Do you think it’s time Meghan and Harry were given a break ? I do. I think we’ve been far too harsh and the criticisms have gotten out of hand.

I think we also forget the cultural relevance. If we went into the homes or Gwyneth, Julia Roberts etc and I would probably feel the divide too. American culture doesn’t apologise for wealth and hollywoood is highly competitive.

Having a confident demeanour, throwing your head back Julia Roberts style when you laugh and unapologetically selling $$$ vagina products like Gwyneth Paltrow is how it over there. People talk loudly and confidently and are polished and rehearsed especially in the
Competitive world of Hollywood…

Are we all being too hard ?

I’m not sure at any point I said she wasn’t lying. I said were you there, is it fact, blah blah blah. I don’t follow the ins and outs of this bullshit, and I still don’t understand the vitriol given none of it affects you.

I don't have to be there?.I saw the Oprah interview. I heard what she said. 17 things she claimed turned out to be a provable lie.

If I said to you "Wednesdays come after Thursdays" and you said "that's not true" would it then be weird if I said "well how do you know? You weren't there when I had my Wednesday! Thats my truth!". There are things that are true. There's no such thing as "my truth".

Same as Archie not being in line for the title of Prince at birth. He only became a Prince when he was son of the monarch. Meghan said it was because of his skin colour. That was a lie.

In law, when a witness is proven to have lied in their witness statement, it means that the whole of their witness statement is now potentially no longer credible. Meghan is the unreliable witness. She lied 17 times...what makes you think anything else she says is true?

You believe what you read in the press?

You made the point Andrew gets less harsh press than Meghan.

But we do believe the press on some level. As I said Andrew hasn't been charged. The press have shown us a photo on a boat and a video of him talking to Epstein. Those of us old enough also know him as "Randy Andy" through the press. I think the vast majority of public think he was a sleaze that slept with a 17 year old thanks to the press
This is despite his explanation interview on the subject and ex wife and ex girlfriends saying he is an ok bloke. Who knows, we all make up our minds based in no small part to the press.

So you don't have an idea either. What a surprise.

Do you work for the RF PR team by any chance?

I wish lol!!

I do "have an idea". It's just that your posts don't make sense.

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 05/01/2025 21:39

It would have been illegal!!

No it wouldn’t. A legal wedding requires two witnesses and the register to be signed. Anyone can have a non legal ceremony at any time. Clearly they wanted to exchange personal, private, non legally binding vows with the archbishop present. Which it sounds like they did.

but we want to hang on to this ‘it’s a lie’ nonsense because it means people are allowed to hate her. Again, she hasn’t personally hurt you so I find it all a bit odd.

the investment in this woman and her life is mental. How you all know xyz I don’t know. Let it go.

itisafuckinggoat · 05/01/2025 21:43

I would love to leave her be..but she constantly places herself and her husband in the public eye! The irony is they would have had a far more private life had they stayed where the duty he was paid for was.

Please don't bring Kate into it I never saw so much photo shopping in my life from one royal. The only time I have seen the real Kate was on Remembrance day and saw how she really looked from all the treatment she had. Chemo takes its toll on the body and it showed in her face. I was shocked and really she didn't have to do the photo or the speech when she was talking nothing moved in the background. Kate has every right to her privacy but that's not what she wanted she wanted to share parts of her journey and that's her right.

So how does Meg fare, then? A fatty boom boom? Skinny little whippet?

Choccyscofffy · 05/01/2025 21:44

IcedPurple · 05/01/2025 20:48

What do you mean?

NF doesn't currently have advertising. They make their money from viewer subscriptions. Nobody is going to subscribe on the strength of Archewell content.

Netflix absolutely does have ads. Your knowledge is out of date. You can pay extra to opt out of ads.

Bontonbonbon · 05/01/2025 21:46

I think it more likely that she is deliberately confusing the rehearsal with an actual ceremony to leverage the point that she never wanted such a big wedding.

Which backfired on them both spectacularly. It made them look ungrateful for all the money spent on them. It’s one of the reasons people don’t like them.

We will never know the ins and outs of what has happened because the RF will never give their version of events. However, both Meghan and Harry have been caught telling outright lies in their books and interviews, which does make their version of why and how they left appear unrealisable at best.

I do wish them luck. And I very much hope the phase of their lives where they are mud slinging against people who can’t defend themselves is over. It was petty and pointless and has caused them no end of repetitional damage.

17 provable lies 😂 you’re so invested.

There is still no actual evidence here love, sorry. ‘Meghan said it was because of the colour of his skin’ I can’t quote it because I don’t know the exact wording but I believe she said there were questions about it to do with it or something like that, whether that’s tradition or what they do or whatever. There very well may have been. You won’t know, BECAUSE YOU WERENT THERE. The RF haven’t responded, so you don’t know whether it is true or not, and it’s still he said she said.

You've seen this contract have you? Does that help process it better.

Why would I need to? It's public knowledge???

They don’t think it’s ok to comment on MM’s looks or aesthetics but everyone else is fair game.

There was no way the Queen would have paid $16 million hush money to Virginia Giuffre if Andrew wasn’t guilty AF.

murasaki · 05/01/2025 21:48

Harry is the living embodiment of the sunk cost fallacy.

But then he does have the IQ of a badly made Victoria sponge cake.

Adamante · 05/01/2025 21:48

That's actually quite funny - that you're bothered about racism enough to report if someone says gammon
Hope you are as bothered about actual racism too.

Any insult/slur based on the colour of one’s skin is surely the very definition of actual racism isn’t it?

They're both skinny aren't they. It's not a criticism against Kate the British people were hounding her as well to show her face poor woman.

Ok I have googled.

it clearly states their LEGAL wedding took place on the Saturday. However H&M class their marriage as their private ceremony 3 days previously. Much like wiccans and those that marry abroad etc where it’s not legal.

so, not a lie really is it? Reminds me of greys anatomy, when derek and Meredith got married on a post it. They kept those vows, called themselves married, but didn’t have a legal union for ages after.

next.

My parents had a private ceremony before the church wedding it's not that unusual.

Utter bull! The big flashy wedding would have been illegal if they had already been married. It's the Archbishop of fucking Canterbury fgs!

Do catch up.

I suppose then they could have opted not to spend £30m of public funds on a spectacle for the masses or they could have objected to having the Windsor homeless shifted from the streets immediately prior to their knees-up.

But they didn't.

You should have left her alone rather than hounding her to show her face poor woman. The British people dragged it out of her.

It's strange arguing with you. Like arguing with a flat-earther. I give up. If the words of the Archbishop of Canterbury won't persuade you then random old me on mumsnet certainly won't!
