With Love, Meghan - criticisms and genuine concern for her mental health

I am probably going to be flogged for posting this and chased down the dark laneways of Mumsnet as bystanders yell “Shame Shame Shame”.

I weighed in yesterday about a thread on Meghan and her new Netflix show. I made some criticisms about the trailer and certain cliche’s in the way it was produced. Hypocritical of me to be posting this but I feel guilty and have reflected. I am actually looking forward to watching it on Netflix and my criticisms were pretty minor and not exclusive to her show - it’s a common issue I have.

Meghan has struggled with mental health because of criticism. The reaction to ‘With Love… Meghan’ has been fairly brutal.

I think it would be really good if we refrained from saying anything negative about the series or Meghan Markle. That’s not the point of this thread.

I want to know if you think the criticisms have gone too far. The Princess of Wales is not on the scene and we are protective of her rightly so. That leaves Meghan as media fodder though.

Do you think it’s time Meghan and Harry were given a break ? I do. I think we’ve been far too harsh and the criticisms have gotten out of hand.

I think we also forget the cultural relevance. If we went into the homes or Gwyneth, Julia Roberts etc and I would probably feel the divide too. American culture doesn’t apologise for wealth and hollywoood is highly competitive.

Having a confident demeanour, throwing your head back Julia Roberts style when you laugh and unapologetically selling $$$ vagina products like Gwyneth Paltrow is how it over there. People talk loudly and confidently and are polished and rehearsed especially in the
Competitive world of Hollywood…

They didn't start it it was the British press appealing to the British public and writing shit about them. You opened the door to them criticising you not the other way around.

@Tittat50 what planet are you on? Andrew is absolutely finished with the public and his family. I've seen no positive publicity in years.

The reason MM and H continue to be discussed / slated is because they keep realising books, interviews, programmes. When Andrew pokes his head up he gets equal animosity. He's not been charged in law so it's based on what the press/ social media have given us and how the public feel about over privileged men and 17 year olds. Similarly we make up our minds about MM being a certain type of person based on what we are shown.

I saw the Oprah interview? Meghan made various statements which were proven to be false. As in, not true. I know it's not nice to find this out though. Must be a bit of a shock.

Yes the Archbishop did say it didn't happen. He embarassingly had to make a statement after the Oprah interview to say that Meghan had lied about getting married the day before as otherwise he would have committed a criminal offence. Very unfortunate of Meghan to have done that to him but luckily he was able to confirm she lied so he was off the hook. I don't know if you believe the word of Meghan over the Archbishop of Canterbury though?

it clearly states their LEGAL wedding took place on the Saturday. However H&M class their marriage as their private ceremony 3 days previously. Much like wiccans and those that marry abroad etc where it’s not legal.

so, not a lie really is it? Reminds me of greys anatomy, when derek and Meredith got married on a post it. They kept those vows, called themselves married, but didn’t have a legal union for ages after.

OP you should perhaps prioritise your own MH above that of MM.

MM is doing great in life, she is good looking, has huge wealth, fame, position, status, an amazing home, a prince for a husband and two children. If she needs MH support she has access to more and better qualified professional support than you could dream of.

Criticism of her cooking show was fully expected by her when she chose to put it out there, maybe respect her choices.

I think having concern for the MH of the many people who have been bullied by MM would perhaps be more warranted.

He says he did meet them a few times before the wedding. He may have done a private ceremony with private vows but not the official wedding.

I can understand if they wanted private vows that aren’t televised for the world.
