I like the fact H was at that NYC conference doing his dragon-slayer thing and talking about how he saw the trial as a 'public inquiry'.

At the court hearing last month, the newspaper group’s barrister accused Prince Harry’s side of ‘an attempt to turn January’s trial into some form of public inquiry’.

Only for H's barrister Sherborne to tell the judge: ‘Saying this is overblown – it’s a public inquiry, and so on – does not help your lordship.’

Who do we feel sorrier for - H being fleeced by Sherborne, or Sherborne for having H as a client?

David Sherborne is known to be a bit of a showman.

Supposedly he was introduced to Harry by Elton John. I think he saw Harry coming, and knew it would be easy to part him from his money in pursuit of legal grandstanding and grievance airing. I don't think Sherborne much cares about being slapped down by the judge. He's used to that sort of thing. And he will still get paid. At least someone is making money from this.

EleanorBettyJackie · 07/01/2025 17:47

Sherborne is pretty long in the tooth not to have been appointed a QC/KC by now. I wonder if that means he is not well regarded within the profession.

I don't feel sorry for Sherborne, I do feel a little sorry for Harry because I'm not sure Sherborne has his best interests at heart.

IAmATorturedPoet · 07/01/2025 19:50

Sherborne is first and foremost looking out for Sherborne.
Prince Harry (£££) is being dragged along for the ride having bought into the whole modern day 'dragon slayer' narrative. I might feel just a smidgen of sympathy for him if he wasn't trying to fleece the British taxpayer of an extortionate amount of money in order to feed his overinflated sense of entitlement.

Galdownunder · 07/01/2025 20:08

Sherborne is very attractive just sayin 😎

Viviennemary · 07/01/2025 20:11

I don't think most folk will relate to an x royal who lives in a house with 17 bathrooms and has an endless supply of money. It's doomed IMHO.

What, Sherborne Hairborne? Each to their own, I suppose.

To think Meghan fans don’t understand what they are doing by accusing those that have mocked the trailer, as racists, are in fact doing her new rebrand a disservice.

Everything Meghan has done so far, has been marked by toxicity, this is now no different. But this is a show that we are meant to associate with joy and wonder. Now mocking reviews; that’s standard. It’s surely no big deal, they even knew to turn off the comments on insta. They were expecting it.

But now we are back to the race debate. Whether you think that’s an important discussion to have around this tv show or not, it’s now associating the show with a heavy, negative energy, not the feel good, positive one that’s it’s been advertised as.

What will happen I suspect; NYT, Washington Post, The Atlantic, LAtimes etc, rather than review and give an honest account, which we know would be scathing, will just decide to not write anything. It will be ignored, to spare them the accusation of not helping to ‘hold space for a woman of colour, in a field that struggles with diversity’

So it won’t get the US reviews that could make a US audience pay attention and we won’t get others watching because of this toxic association with race. So it will be down to the super fans and the ‘haters’ to watch.

She needed that middle ground. The people who don’t really care either way, but these are the people that will be put off the most by all the talk of racism and misogyny. You can’t sit back and relax and enjoy the show, if there’s a part you don’t like, you’ll be thinking: is this my privilege speaking? No one wants that from a relaxing tv watch. You want to unwind, kick back, maybe have a glass of wine and immerse yourself in luxury living for half an hour.

So well done superfans. You’ve fucked it right up 👏

I have no opinion one way or another, nor do I watch Netflix but I want to share my shock at some of comments people are posting on SM. Obviously, negativity about the RF how they are lazy and they wanted her to change to fit in, etc but top comment with many likes is 'they tried to kill her."
The internet is not good for humanity. Lies and hatred spread like wildfire.

StrawberryWasp · 07/01/2025 20:38

I agree that the aesthetics are just too dated now. She is not selling us a new lifestyle aspiration we can get excited about.

I like The Hamptons type look myself but I've been managing to put hydrangea heads in jam jars with a ribbon round them when friends come over for a drink in the garden, for the past 10years.

I've even made a victoria sponge and put it on a cake stand. And I have pretty china I use for such occasions.

I've also been known to put peonies in an old jug: I gravitate to them in Tesco's you see.

And I'm a middle aged woman living in a semi.

Why haven't I got a netflix show??

Because this has been standard making things nice stuff for 2 decades. I'm not special, I just absorbed Cath Kidson.
Which has now gone bust..

She's certainly not spotted the Next Big Thing.

It was Harry himself who said in their joint Netflix documentary that 'they will not stop until she [Meghan] is dead'.

I thought he sounded paranoid.

Even the floral arrangements, which I think she thinks is a ‘modern’ take. Is a 15 years old fad.
The ‘wild’ look really took off in NY with a florist called Laura Thompson, in the 2010s, using Constance Spry as inspiration. But it’s already dated and floristy has moved on. There’s a big movement toward Chinese and Japanese influences in floristry.

Personal gripe- she’s using very little foliage, which makes her arrangements horrendously expensive. This is something that she could have shown her viewers. How to take bits of greenery/herbs from your garden to fill out your arrangements. But as someone who doesn't have cost considerations, this doesn’t cross her mind!

You’re right, she’s not giving us the next new thing in interiors or lifestyle. So why should we follow ….

What comments on youtube?

Ooh, I have been doing Ikebana arrangements, can I have a Netflix show? I learned about them from a couple of thrifting/styling vloggers on YouTube who have made beautiful homes cheaply without looking "cheap", and ethically without being preachy. Going to Goodwill/charity shops and up-cycling/up-styling second hand treasures is much more satisfying than watching some rich woman swanning around some characterless faux home and showing off a lifestyle beyond the means of 99.9% of the apparently"privileged" white women - and all women for that matter - who are supposed to be feeling guilty for finding fault with her.

You can have your own show if you share a picture of your ikebana arrangement and a link to your bloggers.

I'm genuinely interested. I love flowers and houses.

If M had done a show showing us around her house and bringing in florists to show us how to do interesting home arrangements I'd be there.

You’re bang on trend with Ikebana arrangements! Plus you need very little and can make such an impact, so would be a great thing demonstrate. I’d watch!

The comment so many people are making, is just how dated and old fashioned it all appears.

Considering they were renting a house to film in, and it's not Meghans own house, why didn't they rent an uber modern villa, Million Dollar Listing type property, some of those properties are incredible, a real in your face exclusive property with a massive modern kitchen (and a chefs kitchen behind the main kitchen) possibly in Malibu with spectacular ocean views or in the hills with views over LA.

Selling Sunset on Netflix has massive viewing numbers, those property shows are so popular and the majority of the properties are high design, very contemporary with resort type exteriors. Rather than a traditional kitchen and traditional setting with traditional and twee food (those ladybird thingys 😞), something much more contemporary would have been a bit more inspirational and different.

I would watch something like that.

StrawberryWasp · 07/01/2025 21:37

I di give credit to MM for her sheer determination and persistence.

I'd have given up and withdrawn long ago but she won't give up.
Maybe she'll win through in the end because of that?

Or maybe she just isn't aware of how badly it's gone?

Also they need money. So if this was: ok it's a bit cringey and embarrassing but we've got to make money somehow I'd respect that.

But I suspect she really thinks she's inspirational and she'll become admired as well as rich on the back of it.

It's lack of self awareness all the way.

Her persistence must be rather exhausting to live with her. Also her reluctance to heed advice from people who know better than she does. Trouble is she thinks she knows best.

I don’t understand why she doesn’t start running yoga retreats or something like that. She’d probably be quite good at it. Why is she constantly trying to get herself on TV and become a celebrity? Obviously the money, but everything she’s doing is failing. She’d be better changing tack and doing something she is good at or has some experience in.

Because she wants to be famous and that means being in front of a camera ..
