Just an addition on that FHM BBQ video. Here, she wasn't playing a fictional, sexist role in a TV show as an actress trying to find a foothold. She was marketing Meghan Markle - described as "The Ultimate Guy's Girl". That's how she chose to market herself. And this is in 2013, years after she claimed she felt like a piece of meat on Deal or No Deal, and when she had already found success in Suits. Already a success, so no need to subjugate herself.

That's interesting, HunterdeButts. I'd always assumed it was an advert for burgers or something.

And this

These are hilarious. There are so many witty people around when it comes to roasting H&M that it’s almost worth having them around.

HunterdeButts · 04/01/2025 14:20

*Men's Health, not FHM.

Panties? I’ve never met a woman who refers to pants or knickers as panties.

It's the American term.

Its repulsive.

1.3 m followers

Obviously YouTube is different to instagram but I follow and love watching some Chinese and Japanese YouTubers.

One Japanese young woman posts a weekly video of her cooking, cleaning and tidying her flat, sometimes shopping or going to interesting locations. I find it strangely restful and enjoy her videos. She has 1.67m subscribers.

A popular Chinese young woman who posts cooking, village and family life, foraging and occasional craft has 11.4m subscribers.
Always many comments of love for her family, her elderly grandparents, her grandfather is so sweet, he said something about always being proud of whatever she does when she was trying a new recipe on him. Her videos include pigs being killed (she doesn't show the actual moment but you do her squealing 😱 with the whole village coming together to butcher, share, cook and feast on the animal. Seems totally authentic to me and I enjoy her videos.

Liziqi, another Chinese young woman who is incredibly artistic and talented has 22.8m subscribers. If you've ever wondered how to make a silk duvet starting with the silk worms 🐛 this is the channel to find out.

Here you are. It's beautiful. Another one who loves her grandmother, and takes such lovely care of her.

Oh I love those too but mine seem to be Korean, same vibe though. No matter how much I enjoy and aspire to their chilled and calm vibe I'm not getting up at 5am to make an asian banquet breakfast for the kids before they go to school no matter how impressed I am.😬😁

I couldn't watch the pig type one though😭

There are rumours (not substantiated) about MM being demanding and difficult while filming, apparently there were 17 cakes made before MM was happy, (similar rumour to the banana bread she passed off as hers on the Australia tour but which the Governor General’s staff had made and it took several attempts at it before she was sufficiently pleased), and that she was lovely, until things weren’t going her way or didn’t get what she wanted. If this is the case then surely there will be leaks from people behind the scenes. I really struggle to believe that she makes people curtsy to her! Yet didn’t she ask to be addressed as ma’am during an Invictus event, so who knows?!

@MrsFinkelstein your bread looks heavenly 💕 definitely chef’s kiss!

There is a Blind article claiming that The Marchioness of Bath ( Emma) is consulting lawyers due to the similarities between her show and Love, Meghan .
🤷‍♀️

I find this hard to believe - it's all joy not perfection nowadays

I saw that too. Although I usually take those blind items with a pinch of salt….. I wouldn’t blame her there’s a lot of similarities!

You can find it on Youtube. I am sure Gloria Steinem is very proud of her 🙄

Excuse me - the glamorous Victoria sponge cake 😂

The weird thing is that Victoria sponge isn't a thing in the US. I'm in my 60s and had never heard of it until I watched Mrs. Crocombe make one on the English Heritage Youtube channel. We have sponge cake, but we don't call it that. We just call it yellow layer cake, chocolate layer cake, etc.

Afternoon tea is not a thing here, either. Her show seems aimed at a British audience which to me is counterintuitive--too many Brits despise her to make it a success.

But isn't there a US market for "British" things? Afternoon tea and doilies etc. Maybe she's aiming for that?

MummyJ12 · 04/01/2025 15:09

I agree @LifeExperience.
Although she isn’t well regarded in the US either at the moment from what I’ve read. You only have to look at the brutal comments under the trailer on YouTube. All 18K of them, to see how unpopular she is. I think that Netflix has removed the thumbs down figure too. I couldn’t see this when I looked. Only comments and the thumbs up number were showing. (It might just be me).

Well it was the CEO of The Invictus Winter event who said that H and M wanted to be called sir and M’am so not sure how you can claim that is an unsubstantiated rumour .
The banana bread story has been repeated ( and never denied) several times over the years .

You don’t believe that she can be demanding and difficult to work for and with? Okaaay!! The Hollywood Reporter article confirmed it for me. And I did post that it was unsubstantiated. Thank you.

She claimed she was the nerdy, brainy girl, not the pretty and popular one. I think her mind is just full of 1990s movie tropes that she tries to form her history around. She's like the main character in "She's All That", the spiky, feminist, outspoken nerd, who one day takes off her glasses, puts on some lippy, and, Lo! She's so beautiful too, let's make her the prom queen!

I think we all have our private intellectual and emotional growth that nobody really sees. That is what our teen years are about.

I know in my own case I was know as fun and sociable, which I was. Underneath that was a crippling self consciousness and constant worry that nobody liked me. Which I masked by being fun and sociable. I grew out of it.

When I meet up with old school friends for the odd reunion we all talk freely about the public (with the school pals) vs private (in our own mind) we felt back then.

Even though she despises the UK.

But she's Californian, and living in California! The whole thing has a very SoCal vibe, so as always, the imagine is confused.

If she'd been shrewd enough to remain on good terms with the royals, she could have still done the occasional appearance at Trooping or Sandringham without compromising her 'freedom', yet maintaining some sort of royal mystique which she could have marketed. As things stand, however, she was only royal for about 5 minutes, and that was years ago. She's royally messed up her lucrative USP.

Yes, I think what she has to sell is her royal connection. She can stand out by being a Duchess, so perhaps that's what she's aiming for, among a plethora of Californian actresses etc.

Speak for yourself, I'm a Brit who loves an afternoon tea and I don't despise her, that's a strange and hate filled stance to take over someone.
I've seen the trailer for her show, it looks like something I'd be interested in, afternoon teas, lifestyle homes etc.
Away from MN and social media, lots of Brits do actually like her. Step away from your bubbles sometimes.
