But that's like saying the writers of Eastenders wouldn't be chuffed if someone put them in the same TV category as Eldorado! Different content, different quality (maybe people would have different opinions as to which writing was of the higher quality... 🤣) but still - same genre.

I would agree. Totally different.

LaMarschallin · 03/01/2025 18:06

Lavenderfarmcottage

If I were there PR I’d advise rhem to have a home base in the UK - something palatial with dogs and chess boards and kilts.

Or cheeseboards? Might suit Harry better.
And I bet dogs would keep sticking their wet noses up the kilts and making Harry jump.
Or would the kilts be festooned casually over the palatial furniture or used as wall hangings or something?

Please tell us more of your ideas (even if it's a joke).

Well, I would disagree, because Si and Dave were lovely, popular and were proper quality cooks. This looks like a Trad Wife sort of show. There's nothing wrong with that, pretty dresses, flowers, light touch domesticity, but it's not the same in my opinion.

Well, yes - it's an entirely different lifestyle! A PP (hours ago now) just asked me to name a lifestyle programme fronted by someone who didn't have a background in professional cooking.

I'm thinking now that I probably could/should have gone for that Sunday morning hangover programme with Tim Lovejoy instead. Although he is also not a trad wife.

Atlasvue · 03/01/2025 18:11

Guardian, Telegraph, Express and now the Standard all taking the proverbial.

https://www.standard.co.uk/going-out/foodanddrink/cook-meghan-markle-with-love-netflix-b1202861.html

“Yes, Meghan Markle; not gone yet. Having already caused a thrill with her return to Instagram — a grey beach, her running past a smudge in the sand reading 2025, only for her then to write it again— now the Duchess has just released the trailer for her newest Netflix show, With Love, Meghan.

I will start with the obvious: it is the Live, Laugh, Love of TV shows.
It is a symphony of meaningful stares into the distance, slow-motion herb chopping, and Meghan murmuring lines like “It’s not about perfection”. Which is just as well; perfect it is not. Did you catch the under-cooked focaccia?

So what is Brand Markle in 2025? Well, the former actress — avowed feminist, not someone too keen on institutions — appears to be role-playing as a Trad Wife. It is very much as Goop and Cath Kidston had a kid, and that kid’s favourite hobby turned out to be explaining mindfulness over brunch.

There’s the mandatory shot of Meghan leaning laughingly into Harry — the staged, we’re-definitely-not-getting-a-divorce-I-promise kind — though whatever joke caused the crack-up is omitted. In its place are more long, wistful looks. It must be so wearing being this relatable.

Be sure to catch the various quotes which may or may not be inspirational, depending on your present state of mental decline. “We’re in the pursuit of joy,” is one. “Love is in the details.” Music swells. “Everyone’s invited… to create wonder… in every moment” is another. There are rather too many bashful, face-hiding moments, as if Markle weren’t quite literally inviting audiences to sip herbal tea and reflect deeply on… well, her.

It’s all very light and fluffy; Markle’s gone light on the usual lectures. There are not, for instance, shots of her looking meaningfully at the camera and explaining how soup soothes generational trauma. You can’t win ‘em all.”

How to cook the Meghan Markle way, if you really must

You too could make a word salad

" I like taking something ordinary and elevating it". Is she referring to Harry??

TulipTiptoer · 03/01/2025 09:44

Yet many tune in to the likes of Nigella. And others.

Watching it is not obligatory! I will catch a bit of it, not sure on all of it, because I only watch a couple of favourite cooking shows, and I'm inconsistent with that!

Nigella is an expert in her field... not that I watch her either.

Meghan's effort just comes across as fake, schmaltzy and saccharine - I couldn't stomach watching it!

No doubt it will be well discussed, like Spare, so that I won't have to! 😁

Does she put mint on him too?!! 😂

NotaRealHousewife · 03/01/2025 18:20

@MummyJ12 we will have to watch the show to find out!

StrawberryWasp · 03/01/2025 18:21

it is the Live, Laugh, Love of TV shows.

This sums it up so far.

TBF to M if she pulls this off as a huge success and it gets good reviews and we all come to warm to her after all, that'll be a major turn up and very impressive.
Could happen...

Uricon2 · 03/01/2025 18:22

MummyJ12 · 03/01/2025 18:17

Does she put mint on him too?!! 😂

As long as it doesn't involve the application of Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream we should be safe!

Alarmclockstop · 03/01/2025 18:22

No doubt it will be well discussed, like Spare

But sadly due to MN banning mid thread name changes it won't nearly be as funny as the thread about Spare.

I was literally thinking the same! I really like Sunday Brunch, they have good guests and interesting topics. Rimmer is a great cook, and they have different types of cookery and drinks experts on. It's an entertaining and amusing show, but with good food!

You don't understand why it's racist to criticise things that a non white woman does but not to criticise the white woman for the very same thing?

I recommend you read Why I No Longer Talk to White People About Race.

That's a bit of a reach!

Of the examples you gave, probably Kate wasn't criticised for wearing a one shouldered dress inappropriately, because she didn't wear one. She probably wasn't criticised re the bump because she rested her hands on hers while Meghan clung to hers desperately like she was trying to stop the baby coming out!

I'm less clear on the avocados but I assume that was because of a comment M made, while Kate had made no remark. I don't recall any criticism re nail varnish!

NotaRealHousewife · 03/01/2025 18:25

@PoppysAunt Did you watch the tribute episode for Dave?

I watched it. He was such a lovely man. I enjoyed their programmes because they were such genuine people. We were on the M40 on the morning of the bikers tribute and we were really happy to see a lot of the bikers drive by. People were moving out the way for them.

NotaRealHousewife · 03/01/2025 18:36

So many people turned out for him, it was lovely

wigsonthegreenandhatsforthelifting · 03/01/2025 18:36

TulipTiptoer · 03/01/2025 13:32

Does it honestly honestly not occur to you that these sort of criticisms that were levelled at Meghan, whilst applauding Kate for the same thing.. might not have a racist element to it?

Why otherwise?

Let's take just one....

"Kate's morning sickness cure. An avocado gifted to William for pregnant Kate"

"Meghan's avocados linked to human rights abuse and drought. Meghan wolfing down a fruit linked to water shortages, illegal deforestation and all round general environmental devastation"

Do you not find that odd? And that's just one out of very very many.

It was just typical shite journalism written at different times! I doubt the journos sat down and compared what had been said about Kate when writing about Meghan!

Meghan PR clap back at why they have switched off the comments on Instagram. Also her thoughts on changes she’d like to see

https://people.com/meghan-markle-turns-off-instagram-comments-heres-why-it-matters-8768742

In rejoining Instagram, it gives Meghan the ability to connect and share with her followers — but not allowing comments serves as a buffer against negativity. After several years away from social media, a source says Meghan is “excited” to make her Instagram comeback, where she plans to spread "joy" and share updates on her latest projects.

One change Meghan has expressed she’d like to make on social media is adding a “dislike” button to platforms, as she explained in November 2021 “One of the things that seems like such an easy solve from my lens, if you look at Instagram for example, there’s a ‘like’ button and then there’s comments,” she said. “So if you disagree with something, you have to comment on it in a really vitriolic way. If there was a ‘dislike’ button, wouldn’t that hugely shift what you were putting out there? Because you could just ‘like’ it or ‘dislike’ it.”

Meghan Markle Turns Off Instagram Comments — and Here’s Why It Matters

When Meghan Markle rejoined Instagram on Jan. 1, she did so with comments disabled — not altogether surprising considering what the Duchess of Sussex has said about social media trolls and venom spewed at her online in the past.

567 Comments about Meghan, some rather spiteful and personal about her. I made a post asking if William & Rose rumours are true and a select few had a meltdown and reported the post!

Ah but difference was, you were talking rumours - what posters are commentating on is based on M&H's own words and actions! Big difference!

BunnyLake · 03/01/2025 18:42

EmotionalCarrot · 03/01/2025 16:12

I think some people just don't like her and aren't going to change their minds. I don't know why some people get so ANGRY though.

I don't see people getting angry at her so much now. It’s been a few years since she first started throwing people under the bus, people are used to it. I think people just laugh at her nonsense now.

I think this is more illuminating than they intended it to be.

Dislike is not a synonym for vitriol.

Apologies if posted before, but this is from the Guardian, who if anything are Above royal reportage and generally pretty pro Meghan and Harry, generally

https://www.theguardian.com/wellness/2025/jan/03/meghan-markle-netflix-show

ETA when they have anything to say about them, of course Grin

Spectre8 · 03/01/2025 16:22

Well if you see other pictures from the event it was clearly something they were doing at that event, taking photos of the winners when they were awarded it.

She is standing on stage, like you stop snd stand on red carpet shower it's for pictures to be taken, waiting to be interviewed, waiting to move along the carpet...who da fuck is thay bothered. Seriously it's utterly ridiculous to ridicule someone for holding their bump.

Edited

She did it on royal engagements too. It looked so performative and contrived!

queenofarles · 03/01/2025 18:48

people who think everyone is hateful because Meghan is mixed race obviously haven’t been here long , I remember how Pippa’s book was endlessly mocked for a long long time here and elsewhere there was a hilarious account on twitter that made fun of the style of writing , Meghan can’t beat Pippas tips on making Ice or signing Auld lang syne to celebrate the new year 😄
